No more than others bring up they're not in it for the money. Blue
C'mon....folks just mention it and you get all riled. I've never seen or heard anyone who has said they play non-professionally get as wound up as you do by people who do the contrary. What's the beef ?

They're fantastic basses, glad to hear you got yours sorted. -
Epiphone Jack Casady Bass and the Gibson Style Supertone Bridge

Both my JCs are very good quality, not problems at all. I've fitted a Hipshot to one of them - very much easier to intonate and improves the tone too. I pulled out my string posts when I fitted the Hipshot so I could epoxy them back in, so if you do end up upgrading the bridge, you've saved yourself a job ! -
I'm sitting here looking at my gig schedule and I'm figuring out which bills will be paid and when. Seriously, am I the only bass chatter that us in this for the money. And why does it seem like not being in it for the money is some sort of badge of honor? Blue
I'd watch all this inventing people: 'musicians who don't care if they make mistakes' and 'bassists who think not being paid is a badge of honour'...there's no 6 foot rabbits attending your gigs are there ?
I wasn't aware of people saying that the crowd won't notice incompetence. I do think they don't notice a lot - but incompetence usually stands out to most people.
Exactly my thoughts.

I've seen people saying that punters won't notice the difference when it comes to getting basslines the same as the original in covers bands. I've never seen anyone say that about the performance aspect.

Live sound seems to have turned into 'drums as loud as possible and kick louder still', even in small venues. It's spoiled more gigs for me than I care to remember.
No, the only precaution I took was to leave them in their sealed pack until I was ready to tackle them. I still managed to drop one on the carpet all the same!
OK, my plans for sheets of tin foil, wire and various croc clips might be a bit OTT then !
I got my kit in October and have only just braved it! They are tiny but with a magnifier, pair of tweezers and pointed soldering bit it was a 2 minute job! The hints in the instructions are very helpful.
Thanks for the tip (ahem) - I'm concerned about the SMT J201s and their susceptibility to static...did you earth yourself up ?
Finally got round to building the Guma Drive kit I've been putting off for months due to apprehension over the SMD parts. Turns out I needn't have worried - it was actually pretty easy!
That's good to hear - I've just ordered a Guma Vintage kit myself and the teeny-tiny transistors were making me worried !
"Celebrate" is one of the songs that made me want to get a bass...saw the original Nephilim 4 times back in the day, awesome on stage
It's still one of my favourites to play, lovely tone. He came up with some cracking basslines... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UbiNKU227Y It's a bit uber-goth for me these days, but back in the backcombing days.....

I've had a couple of pleasant surprises with house backline - I remember one gig where the amp provided was a small, maybe 60W combo...and very much a 'Bobby's Bass Amps' brand, but it sounded awesome. One of the best gigs I played with that band and I attribute a lot of that to the pocket rocket behind me spurring me on.

Vanderkley are better than Barefaced cabs, right?!

I held it together until 'This is my stop' and then I had to spit the tea back into my mug. It's all bubbly now, but no matter. Worth it for the mirth.
I've seen some right precarious looking rigs, mismatched cabs, one large cab stood on end of smaller cab on it's side then with a huge head overhanging the top cab either side, handles and feet glued back on and the tolex peeling off here and there.
Rock and roll, baby....rock and roll...

Odds-on you kettle will draw more current when it boils than your studio ever will.

I can see jazz as the end result of wanting to involve more musical theory in one's playing. I can certainly see its allure as I've leaned more notes But I'm neither a ex-metaller nor a jazz cat, hopefully some of the jazz brethren on BC can help.

Those two make some of the funniest reviews I've seen.

I remember finding the bottom end a bit mushy, but these are very old memories !

I'd not change strings just before a gig as I find very new strings a bit much. A week or so and they've calmed down a bit, tuning and tone wise, and they're much nicer to my ear. If you're nervous about a big gig, then I'd be inclined to leave the old strings on...less to get worried about !
Yeah i eventually went for help Frosty and was on Citilapram for about 4 years but i managed to wean myself off them on the Doctors advice....they help keeping you chilled but aren't a cure plus they made me feel tired and lethargic and I don't fancy going back there...
I can see why you'd not want to try any more medication, but you could ask about someone to talk to ? I've seen a couple of therapists and they really can help. One thing I would recommend is Martin Seligman's book "Learned Optimism", it's not a quacky self-help book, Seligman was head of the American Psychological Association, and it helped me tremendously.
Having not played in a band for quite some time now i was unfortunately diagnosed with depression about 6 years ago and quit my last Band because of the illness ect....to be honest i never bothered playing either my Bass or Guitar and now suffer with terrible confidence issues where I have become terribly unreliable musically....
If the confidence issues are stopping you doing what you want to do then maybe it's time to ask for some help with them ? I've struggled with depression stemming largely from self-esteem and confidence issues and I know how much it can eat away at your enjoyment of playing music. Did you get some help with your depression from a GP ? It might be time to pop back and tell them that you need a bit more help as that bloody black dog's sitting on your bass whenever you want to play it. But think - you get asked to play in bands, so people obviously think you're good enough to rely on - "Yep The Big Yin, he can cover the bass, no worries", so why not try to go with it if you can ? They want you there, after all. Good luck, if there's anything I can do then please PM me Stay frosty
