1. now, that looks very interesting. i've always fancied building my own valve pre...and that's not too pricey imho.

    Too much fuzz?

the wounded paw battering ram is my absolute favourite noise pedal, and believe me...i've been through a lot. pricey, not easy to get hold of, but brilliant.
  3.
I've never seen instruments as gender specific. Each to their own but not for me
plus the one. they're bits of wood and metal...they neither need names nor a gender.
  4. i had an amp blow and catch fire during a gig. it was a very cheap amp.
  5.
All of the guys mentioned must have great recording studios built in to their houses because apparently fretless bass playing is something you can only do at home.
6.
coz they are modelled on spectors this coming from a man that spent 11 years playing warwick streamers and now has a spector, your right though best body shape ever especially if youve got a beer gut
what ? how can you see me ?

  8.
For me there is something very pleasing about the pendulum variety.
plus the one.

  10.
OOOOOHHHH Tough call between him and Giblin in my book..... both outstanding!
plus the one. sublime playing.
  11.
yeah, had heard that. Cheers for your prompt response, looks like I'm going shopping (again). Ho Hum, GAS 1, NY resolution 0...
i know what you mean, the hiss is ok for live work, but gets on my nerves a bit at home.
  12.
(thread hijack) - do you know which one (of the 5) makes the most different with regards to signal to noise ratio - I've just had a new transformer fitted to my SVP PRO and am back in the studio recording with it, but it's a bit hissy. It's probably always been this hissy, but now that I'm recording through higher spec kit it's really noticeable. It was re-tubed 2 years ago (EHX valves), but the tubes have had less than 20 hours use since then. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers. (/thread hijack)
well, as i'm sure you know, the svp-pro is a noisy unit...i did do some looking around online a while back and couldn't find any conclusive answers. using decent quality valves is the best way i think. edit: here's and interesting thread
  13.
Looked at the line up and watched Father Ted.
same here, except i went to the pub.
  14. jumbo frets sounds like a mississippi blues man
  15.
Over the E chord Keith plays an E then an A then a G# and back to E, over the D chord he plays D then up a perfect fourth to G and down to the major third of the D chord, F#. It's the higher verse bass figure and provides some dynamic against the R5R5 of the main figure.
gotcha
  16. have a word with watford valves...i did when i needed to re-valve my svp-pro and it sounds great
  17.
...as Symapthy has that wonderful Root-P4-M3-R played over the E and D chords of the some of the verse and it in no way sounds "hokey".
can you explain the Root-P4 etc part please ? (tho i feel i'm going to feel silly when you do)
  18. i'm looking like a bit of a lightweight here, with my <1mm plectrums !! i used to use heavier ones, but i found the bass didn't feel right...almost like the bass didn't resonate back at me...
  19.
I just can't afford a real one! I played this in the shop and thought "that's for me!"
more than enough reason to go for one ! good on ya
  20. i though the violin-style bass he played was an EB-1...
  21. good work - i liked those 3 pieces. i wish i had the time and patience to work on some more involved music.
  22. i think you just took a photo with the coin very close to the camera and your new stack a long way away.
  23. the answer to this (and similar questions) is... if you like it, it is and if you don't, it's not. right, i'm going back to measuring bits of string
