1. bass northwest cos then i'd get to go to washington as well
2.
Last week at a gig, a musician came up to me and asked if it was an American Fender I was playing. I said Essentially yes but I payed £250 for it and it says squier on.
a musician interested in a bass...unheard of ! but, back on track...if you like the sound, then it's good. end of line.
3. just to add to the chorus of 'why hasn't anyone grabbed this yet ?' i'd be all over it like a rash if i wasn't fortified already !
4. thanks again for all the advice folks...all grist for the mill. i've been playing in bands on-and-off almost all my life, so hopefully taht'll stand me in good stead...although i would deffo need to improve my knowledge of blues standards if that's the way these things tend to play out. think i need to find some jam nights and go icognito (sans bass) to check out the lie of the land
5. according to the spec sheet it'll already run on phantom power from a desk via the xlr out i've got a berhringer di box that will take a 9v batter or phantom power, as will the ebs microbass. they'll run fine at a lower voltage, but for best performance, you should use the +48 phantom powering hope this helps
6. blimey - slapping on an 8-string. i'm still getting to grips with my dean rhapsody, so i can only admire the man's skill !!
7. thanks for the info folks.
8.
To be honest I've not used it a lot so I don't really know how it is at any settings It's just on sale as I have to get rid of at least half my pedals to come back into the realm of sanity and as I've not had a chance to get into it it's on offer. I'd have a go now but I'm in the middle of turning my studio/storeroom into a bedroom/storeroom so hard to find space to plug anything in. If I can find space to put my feet in the next few days I'll have a go - were you interested in it on geetar, bass, or both?
just bass - if you could do some low-gain samples, that'd be great, but please don't bust a gut...but as someone in the middle of a load of diy myself, i know your tribulations.
9. how is the dirty bomb on lower gain settings ?
10. decided to hang onto it
11. thanks eb, any advice would be great.
12. a few people (included our very own munkonthehill) have suggested to me that i should have a go at some jam nights, but i've got a couple of questions... how do they work, tune-wise ? do the band sort out a chord progression for the song, do they stick to common arrangements like blues/jazz standards or just wing it ? once you're there, how are the bands made up (is it like pool ? winner stays on ) ? am i good enough ? i know these questions are a bit 'how long is a bit of string', but some ideas would be helpful. despite playing for over 20 years i'm still quite nervous about my playing (which is why i've never tried this kind of thing before), and i'd like to know what i'm letting myself in for.
13. nudge
14. whilst i remember, i don't think i've posted a pic of my streamer std - modded with a bartolini pickup and black bridge and knobs. i'm very impressed with the range of sounds available you can get from it - very punchy to smooth
15.
my current two... my 'baby' '94 fortress one bought new and never to be parted with!! and my recently acquired '93 fortress one with SD pups and preamp
how do you find the replaced sd parts ? when i put new p-ups and pre in my fortress it just came alive !
16. i've not played a star bass (i wish !), and i didn't get on with the short scale of the starfire i had, but the epiphone hc is an amazing bass imho. the pickup is amazing sounding, the neck fits wonderfully in my hand and if you string it with flatties... hmmmm...bistro
17. radio 3: live in concert
18. lovely bit of work !
19.
I think I've looked at every possible soapbar out there I think, haha, I'm sure barts sound great but I don't like that huge embossed logo on them, think it looks a bit tacky Either way I've sorted a custom one out, turns out that it'd cost roughly the same as a Seymour Duncan etc but I get it made to my spec, so I thought why not
sounds like a plan - sure it'll sound great. btw - the logo on the bartolinis isn't actually as obvious as you'd think, and there's always black tape
20.
Thanks for the comments! @ahpook, routed for a 3.5" x 1.5" soapbar, actual route is 91.5mm x 39.5mm according to the luthier
have you considered the bartolini 'BB'-style pickups, they're 38mm x 89mm ? i put a bart in my warwick streamer std and, although quite modern-sounding, it isn't as ultra-bright as i thought it'd be
21. i'm very confused by this thread... but here's a vid anyway
22. looking good. nice n' tidy ! edit: just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of the pickup rout ?
23. cheeky bump
24. iirc the guitar's an open-tuned G chord, and when i've jammed it out i've double-up the ascending run on the bass. hth
25.
Do you know if this'd fit a Trace SMX compressor pedal? Runs DC Centre Pin Negative. Not sure on the plug size though!
it's 2.5 mm iirc, when i had a te smx i modded a danelectro cool cat chorus psu with a new plug from maplins.
