1. Erm, a bit. You'll probably need the truss rod tweaking a little bit to compensate for the extra tension that you've set up. There may also be some twist across the fingerboard as you've put extra pressure on one side and not the other. If you need a low D and a low E string then I'd recommend getting a thicker 'E' string in place of your B (an extra 5 or 10 thou should do it), but then your nut might need some attention. Hope this helps.
2. Mine came with phosphor bronze strings - in the hot weather they can turn your sweat green, which came as a bit of a surprise. I'm currently using Rotosound flats on mine and love the sound.

4. I learnt all the grade 8 stuff years ago when I was at college, college pulled the funding to actually sit the exam unfortunately, but it was still good to have specific targets in my practice regime ( and it still is TBH). If you take your playing seriously then the Rock school grade 8 is achievable. Incidentally when and where are you taking the exam? I know some people...

7. Hi All, I sold an unused bass body to Pickle this week, really prompt payment and a nice guy to deal with. Really clear communication too.
8. My recycled strings arrived today, Uber fast and free. Nice one Ficelles.
9.
Andy Rouke! My bass God
Never meet your heroes. I rubbed shoulders with him at a house party in manchester a good few years back; i seem to remember we nearly came to blows waiting for the loo. My overriding memory was that he was a bit of a tool. Granted we'd all had a few and i'd like to think that's what it was down to.
10. Welcome on board. In reply to your OP, I like P basses, but I also like J basses, but which is better? There's only one way to find out.....
11.
Sound advice methinks Sat looking at the nut earlier and thought do I really want to start filing bits off it? So I guess there's a 5-string flatwound set for recycle... ficelles
Ooh, can I have first dibs?
12.
I also love playing fretless. For me, this is when I enjoy playing bass the most.
+100

14. Thanks for the template, I can see myself using this as I have an open dispute with PF at the moment. How exactly do you shatter the handles on a 4U flight case? Surely if your knuckles are dragging on the floor then you can't lift it high enough to drop it from any great distance? Confused of Ramsbottom.

17. i've done quite a bit of moving kit around the country this year; parcelforce are so far the only courier firm to balls it up. +1 for the boycot.
18. Isn't that Jack socket from a stratocaster?
19.
are you referring to *ahem* teenage exercise?
Egad jake, i'm shocked. I'm far too busy these days to indulge in any onanism; that includes double-thumbing too.
20. i love self-indulgence, i really do.
21. Here's my little lot. Signal path goes is: Looper - OC2 - EHX Bass MS - EBS Chorus - MXR Bass Fuzz - EBS TremoLo - 3 leaf Groove regulator - back to looper - Master output to MXR Bass DI+. Silica Gel optional.
22.
If I use too many VSTs in a project on Reaper, my playback starts stuttering, which makes it hard to do much more. If I turn stuff off, then it works fine again. I'm cool with that, as I don't need everything on all the time. But is there a way of seeing which VSTs use how much CPU, so I know which ones it is most efficient to leave off etc? I use Reaper. Thanks
Have you tried using grouping stuff and/or using FX busses to reduce instances of VSTs? just a thought. You could also export tracks that you are happy with and then turn off all of the VSTs on that track, that way you could still develop a piece without having to cull plugins.
23. The best book I ever read (twice) on this was by [i]The principles of Orchestration[\i] by Samuel Adler. Brilliant book. Don't think it does Big Band stuff though.
24. I seem to remember Frankie Bello from Anthrax doing alright with his P bass, just drop the action for a bit more 'cluck' and you're golden. Leave the aesthetic obsession to the lead guitarists, they think it's all about them anyway, so don't upset them by putting them straight . If they really complain then you could get away with a more 'metal' scratchplate with some sort of offensive/gory decal on it. Edit: unless you're doing some GWAR stuff, then it's black and pointy all the way.
