1.
I've got a DHA VT1 EQ too here's a recording done with it: I'd highly recommend it, its the most important piece of kit in my rig next to my bass!
NIce tune Bo. +1 for the VT1 EQ too - absolutely essential bit of kit for me too.
2.
Que the pendants and Fender critics giving you their alternative answers to this one It is very true, for the longest time a lot of producers wouldn't have anything else but Precision basses in their studios. This was probably as much down to a fear of the unknown but it's also pretty telling of just how trusted they were in the hands of the right players.
That and they're relatively simple to bed into a mix, and sound great once you've done it.
3. Having a bit of a session of Marvin Gaye's "what's going on?" this week. Loverly.
4. I'm putting together a P bass (with a slightly thinner neck profile) just to get that sound. Still can't get on with the necks though.
5. Brilliant stuff. Created the template for practically every 'soul' artist since. Awesome voice too (not too shabby on the drums either...).
6. Cheers for that, I'll have a plonk tonight.
7.
There is also some question over what gear is necessary : combos don't appear to be popular, but another post quite reasonably ponders the wisdom a 4 x 12 guitar rig in a small rehearsal space! Would an AC30/Fender twin type amp etc cut it perhaps?
AC30? still too much for a rehearsal room and expensive to maintain once the indie bands have abused it. Obviously you want to offer reasonable kit or bands won't come in though. Have you heard the Orange Tiny Terror through a 2x12"? brilliant. It'll keep up with most bands volume wise too.
8.
Two of those - er - ladies have very weird tits.
Just 2? I'm no expert but they ain't pretty titties!
9. Personally, amps that don't go too loud and air conditioning. A Well lit car par and security are a bonus too.
10. cool, I'll carry on then.
11. Bought an Artec onboard pre from Marco last month and have just got round to fitting it and having a bit of a play. Great communication all round and top quality gear. Great guy to deal with.
12. I've just started reading this after it being recommended to me by a fellow musician. 38 pages in so far and it looks OK. Anybody else any experience of Green/Gallwey's book?
13. we'll generally have a run-through at the rehearsal before the gig, but we don't tend to bother too much with them.
14.
You could order a P / MM style bass. Sandberg do something similar with the VM, but the MM pup isn't in the correct sweetspot.
'sweet spot'? I'm putting a MM pup in my home-made P bass this week, and from what I've read, the ideal place for the MM is 54mm from the G string saddle. Any advances before I start 'wood-butchering'?
15. I've had both - the Sansamp will give you the 'wooliness' and dirt of the SVT rigs very easily, but that's pretty much the only sound I could get mine to make. The DHA will take a bit more getting used to, as you've got the 'mid' and 'Q' control too. I prefer the DHA, as it has loads more features (DI out, line in and headphone socket) for roughly the same money, but ultimately it's your choice.
16. Boxy, ugly and heavy but great sounding, flexible and they'll run forever.
17.
Buy a bass to play not as an investment that's my advice! An unplayed bass kept for investment is sacrilegious.
playing a bass [is] an investment - admittedly, it's unlikely to make you enough money to retire on, but that's OK; I'd rather play music than make money.
18. I think that's #127 - 'love custard'
19. I'd spend that money on 'thumb reduction surgery' for the two chaps who 'demoed' this bass in those videos. Fine, you can slap, but what about the versatility of the bass?
20. Like the look of this so much I'm building one from bits I had lying around...
21. Do they do promotional T-shirts?
22. That's close to my neck of the woods - wouldn't mind a PM with his details if that's alright?
23. 2nd from the left.
