1. Hi matt, i'll have a look through my real books to see what I've got...
2.
...the guitar player and I played a 12-bar blues in which we played the whole thing a semi-tone apart (he was in Bb, I played it in . What''s more, we alternated so, after each chorus, we swapped. No-one noticed. You may be agonising over that sharpened 5th but, trust me, no-one else is, possibly not even the rest of your band.
Taxed - can't wait for the next 'dinner' gig.
3.
Am I the only one who though this thread was going to be about [s]Rudy Sarzo[/s] Gene Simmons?
Fixed.
4. Hi matt I've got a confession mate, i use your site as a transcription resource. Sorry bout dat. Snce we're sharing, I sometimes leave the toilet seat up too.
5. Billy Joe Armstrong really struggled to smash his, and he's a *real* punk rocker.
6. I'll take 'heel joint' - shall we say 6 minutes?
7. Pop music has always been about technology - double-tracking vocals, selective EQ'ing and using artificial reverberation to 'blur' imperfections in vocal performances (and sometimes fretless bass too!) to ensure a more marketable product are common place. Autotune is simply the next step in the race to be fully dependent on technology. What's different about Autotune (and others) is that the public are aware of it. Back in the day the 'tricks of the trade' were closely guarded secrets.
8. If you've got a weedy output (technical term) and you've changed the battery then I'd look at the wiring as Mark suggested. It may be that one of the wires isn't fully connected, but it may also be due to phasing issues - check that the two wires from your pickups are going to the right places on the Pre, otherwise no amount of soldering will rectify the problem.
9. Curse you BC, just bought the 'Tower of Doom' album. Back to the OP, do you have the Twins 1 and 2 albums? It's Jaco with his big band live and both discs are incredible. I had the 'Invitation' album (edited single CD version of 1 and 2) for years and loved that, last month I got hold of the 'Twins' (so to speak) and realised what I was missing. Awesome performances from all concerned.
10.
Do what I did,buy a Fender,use it for 34 years......
This.
11. I bought All American Alien Boy by Ian Hunter on the strength of Jaco's playing and really like it.
12. Just tried to have a listen and I can't access any samples - I get a white rectangle in the centre of my screen ad nothing else. I'm on OSX 10.8 using safari if this helps. Like everything else though,
13.
DHA VT-1 or VT-2 nice clean overdrive. http://www.davehalla....uk/page18.html
The VT2 might be a bit of an overkill for this, the second channel goes from fairly mental to King George 6th pretending to be Napoleon whilst making love to a space-hopper in the bath. On a wednesday. The VT1 EQ will allow you to EQ the drive sound too, so you could roll off some od the high end and boost a little bit of the bottom end.
14.
that bach is stunning!!
+1
15. Crikey, that's a BAAAAAAADDDDD website. Get thee to Yola and use a template FFS.
16. Looks like a stratocaster (copy) string tree too - nice 'hourglass' effect on the D and G strings on the headstock. Dafuq?
17.
I know there's a known issue with switch mode supplies and Dave's pedals, in that they need to be plugged in to the effect before the power supply is switched on (IIRC). I'm not sure if that is a quirk of DHA's designs or whether it applies to other pedals as well. I seem to remember Dave saying it was a high pitched whistle, and could be cured by taking the above mentioned steps.
I did not know this. Thanks for that.
18. I'd answer it like this: Me: "hello, who's that?" Mumbomachine: "mumbomachine" (or similar) Me: "how did you get this number? Feck off!"
19. I've ended up using a flat screen monitor PSU for my DHA valve pedal and it's whisper quiet - just goes to show what a clean DC supply can do for you.
20. The only thing I can think of is the quality of the buffer in the Behringer chorus - wired up like that it would affect your tone all the time. I'd certainly recommend some sort of buffer on a board, but I reckon there are better quality (more tonally transparent) ones to have permanently in your signal chain. The Boss ones are usually very good, so why not put the chorus on the second loop from the LS2? You'll probably notice a difference in the sound.
21. Bump for an identical head to mine - right down to the JJ tube. These things have power in spades and are rock solid. Lovely, lovely amp.
22. That looks lovely, stirling work Sims!
