1. I'm putting out a feeler to gain any interest on an original set of Moog Taurus II Bass pedals dating from around 1981. These pedals are fully working and fully analog with all the low end fattness associated with the Moog synth. The pedals are essentially a Moog Rogue specially tuned to the lower octaves and a set of Moog pedals (see pic), they are non midi of course! Purpose built for bass use and pretty rare in this condition. The module sits either on top of the pedals or on a (rather wobbly) metal pole screwed into the top of the unit. The pedals come with original PSU, connection cable, steel pole, carrying sling and custom made (incredibly heavy) flight case. There is also - incredibly - the original sales invoice, user manual and overlays with suggested settings! Prior to me owning the pedls they were owned by a Genesis tribute band as there are some settings on the overlays marked 'Squonk', 'Suppers Ready' etc. I've tried them and they are pretty authentic. They sound fantastic and are in good cosmetic condition showing minor gig wear, stickers have been placed on the pedals to help with the notes! Minor issues are damage to the screw-in section to the steel pole and the PSU jack is a little loose but works as it should. There is loads of info about these on the net, the Taurus II have often been seen as a poor second to the Taurus 1s - having played both I feel they have their own merits (haven't tried the Taurus 3s yet) and are equally valid. These pedals have incredible warmth and killer bass great for all kinds of music not just prog! I'm adding a stock picture and will upload some pics of the set for sale if there is any interest. Price wise I'd be looking at 750 ish. Obviously its difficult to gauge their worth as I guess they are a bit of a niche instrument. These are for pickup only as they are really and I mean really heavy.
 2. It looks original to me and I have owned several Grabber basses (still own a very early one). It may be a little later than 79 judging by the Schaller (I presume Gibson branded) tuners and the matching headstock. These basses tend to be fairly light weight but I'm unsure of the later era ones...a later G3s I owned was pretty hefty though. Grabber basses are fantastic and sound great in any rock/roots context but I don't think they are grabbing (sorry) the attention they deserve. Have a bump on me!
 3. Wow! I'm getting John Carling of John Birch to build me a 5 string 4000 type, this is lovely though!
 4.
Did Ibanez do a 'faker with a neck toaster and grover copies? The ones I remember started off with the small chrome p/u, moving on to the big mudbucker and finally an accurate looking high gain copy. I think they all had Fender/Rick type tuners as well. Where's Jon when you need him?
I have seen Ibanez versions with toaster type PUs also Aria did one - 'Aria Diamond' perhaps it was from that factory? There are many variations on the theme the worst being Hondo II the best perhaps the Ibanez.
 5.
Judging by the tuners that looks to have been a Matsumoku made bass. Someone got a bargain!
I had an email 'conversation' with the seller, I warned him about my own experiences about the Rickenwaffe and advised him to give a BIN price, I think he might have thought I was trying to pull a fast one. anyway it sold for a lot less than I would've suggested! Funny how some of these reach auction end and others get pulled? You are right it has those Grover type 'wavy' tuners and is probably from the same factory that made the Ibanez bolt on type Rick - I think CMI were an importer's (rebadged) inhouse brand, if you look at the pic the logo is clearly a decal on the headstock rather than the TR cover. Sad to say I missed the last few moments of the auction......

 8.
A quick update with some (poor) photos. At least they show you that it does actually exist. Will consider sensible offers for this as new piece of awesome.
PMd

 12.
Oh, the humanity!!
If you look at the pics he's posted and his comments he's evidently very proud of the 'reclining nude' etched into the woodwork with a soldering iron...he's even signed it! What a mess, I'd be interested to know what the Rickenwaffe will have to say about it!
 13.
Whoops I'll remove my post.
14.
Same person that's selling this one: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=147046
Yes that's an odd looking one to me, the headstock and decal don't look quite right as well as the other things people have mentioned. The '78 seems looks OK though....but heavy.
 15. It weighs 12lbs I asked him - so a bit hefty!
 16.
The seller also has a pretty f*cked 62 RI Foto Flame for sale which he describes as "a superb example".
Hi both basses are mine and in as you can see they are both very much open to offers! The Jazz was on here but no interest, the problem with the Jazz is just lacquer cracking the neck is lovely. The Grabber could be a bit of fun for someone and was a 'speculative' ie cheeky BIN but again open to offers - if you read the ad it says that the neck/tuners are thrown in for free I just had it knocking around so it could be a good template for a new neck or stripped and refinished and used. I bought the body from the US and it cost me a few quid and quite a bit to import it, the other parts were from a defunct Grabber that somebody had taken a hatchet to....I was going to part the lot out but thought someone might fancy a challenge!
 17.
£740? Just buy a synth already!
Ha! You could get a Wasp Drive from Clacktronics and spend the change on a Moog Prodigy for that!
 18.
But it's not a Modulator - it's a Marathon.
And I think it will be mine!!!!
 19. Just restrung with Rotos sounds and plays superbly!
 20. Thanks, how would you describe the neck profile? What shape would it be, I always felt they were quite shallow.
 21.
can somebody help with what model / make this bass is... i like the looks of it but would like some background info on the bass and reviews before i buy... and the seller doesnt seem to know http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Japan-Hollow...ht_10016wt_1141 please help
Looks like a cheapo Kent or a Norma both specialised in strange versions of violin basses and junk semis, I think they were made in the same far east factory and rebadged. I had a Norma violin bass and the pickups looked like these. There used to be a site caled fetishguitars and one called bizarreguitars, you may be able to find via Google.
 22. Hi I'm looking for a bit of help, I'm having a bass made for me and I need to know the dimensions of Status 5 string bass necks, I've owned both Shark and Groove basses and love the string spacing, width, shallow depth and profile. Its a long shot but could some kind soul send me some accurate measurements please? What I need is nut width, width at 12th and body joint area, profile (never been able to work that out would it be a shallow D profile?), depth and string spacing at nut, and bridge. I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this.
 23. I'm trying to raise funds for a custom build project so this has to go unfortunately! Its a Made in Japan Jazz bass and dates from the mid 90s. The bass has the nicest 60s Jazz neck I've ever played although I think the nut may be a replacement as the slots aren't cut low enough for my tastes. The action however is great and the trussrod works properly. The bass has a really dark rosewood fingerboard and white dots, the lacquer has that lovely vintage amber patina to it. The hardware and pickups are all original and the pickups sound great although the tone pot doesn't do much (think the wiring looks tidy enough. The cavity has an earthing plate in it and an earthing strip runs from the bridge to the treble pickup - very 60s! The bass is ultra light I suspect it is made from basswood as were nmany of the fotoflame series. The body as you can see has plenty of dings around the edges and bucklerash. The foto flame effect was achieved by literally sandwiching a film-like veneer under a thin layer of lacquer (tons of info in Google land about this process). It looks pretty authentic but was prone to cracking and this one is no exception as you can see. Some basses had the necks foto flamed too - fortunately this one hasn't - and on the necks you could just about make out a McDonalds Hamburglar face in the 'flame'. Legend has it that the employee who came up with this as a visual joke was fired from Fuji Film! Anyway the body has these flaws as pictured using a flash to show them up more. I've got to say that this does not have an effect on what is a lovely playing and sounding bass. Don't know if this is a rare one but you certainly don't see many about! This is a feeler to see if there is any interest really. Looking for 295 for a quick sale thanks.
