1. Thanks I looked at that but couldn't get it to work for me as the pickup configuration and jacks are different or appear so.
  2. Hi I bought a bargain Rickenbacker 4001 '75 bass from gumtree a few weeks back. It had been left in a garage for several years having been defretted - badly - sprayed snot green and stripped of its pots and wiring with pickups attached directly to the jack. Well I've had it refretted and it plays really well now, I bought a pickup harness from the US (allegedly genuine Rickenbacker) but I have only basic soldering skills and I can't read wiring diagrams. I'd really appreciate some help - I'd like a simple to read step by step diagram/photos showing the wiring of your Ric and how to wire the bass up to a mono jack as I'm not bothered about stereo. The pickups both work and have a strong signal, the harness has two volumes, two tones with capacitors and a 3 way switch. There was no jack included but I have a few knocking around. Cheers! Here's a pic of the wiring harness -
  3. Yes I can't upload any images with either the basic uploader or flash 9 - on the flash 9 version I keep getting an error message about 'skipped content' the other says its uploaded but no image is present. Very frustrating! I'm having a lot of problems just backspacing and navigating around each area.
  4. For sale is my early 70s Shaftesbury Tele 6 string. It is I believe all original but minus the ashtray cover. It is a yellow/ivory colour and is in good shape overall. The neck is excellent although the chrome work is rusty in places and the electrics and switches will need a clean as they cut out. So its a nice vintage project.... having trouble uploading images of the guitar - I guess more teething troubles in the improved site......so if you want pics PM me with an email. The guitar is located in Lancaster, I would prefer not to post but will do at the buyer's cost but not outside the UK. Sorry. Am looking for a straight 100 quid for it. Cheers!
  5. Here is my Markbass Micromark combo purchased recently from this forum. I think you'll know what it is if you are looking at this - anyway to cut a long description short its a tiny combo with a 6'' speaker that pushes out a remarkable quality of bass at a reasonable volume. It's rated at 50 watts! I have used this with my upright to play with a bluegrass combo and it worked really well but is equally comfortable with electric bass and my P bass sounds fantastic through it. It is as I bought it which is excellent condition and comes with the tiny extension tweeter that sticks to the combo with velcro! The bass has the usual Markbass DI out. It weighs around 9lbs! I'm looking for what I paid for it which is 250...around half the new price of this plus the tweeter. Postage in the UK is extra. Specifications and reviews are plentiful ifon here and elsewhere. Part of my clearout of stuff I rarely use. Cheers!
  6.
You must've woke them up
Ha! Ha! Rickenwaffe in for the kill as ever....they didn't get that Jolena copy though so I guess that's one for the Rick Resistance!

  8. Still up for a EUB or a reasonable exchange on a decent 5/6 string

I thought about warning him off using the sacred R word but I've seen this one before.... I picked up the Gumtree bass yesterday and its a mid to late 70s 4001. The routing, truss rods, fixtures and fittings all point to this era. The jack socket cover has been replaced and all the electrics are gone but the pickups sound fantastic. The machineheads have the black plastic ferrules from this era and the dark strip running the length of the neck and body (which is covered in a rather fetching snot green punk paint job but the stripe outline is visible). The neck profile is very similar to my 4000 bass, slim and flat. The neck by the way is fine, nice action now I've adjusted the bridge which was rusted up and set at its highest. Plays great now! I'm looking at getting it fretted and if anyone has a wiring diagram (that I can understand ) I may have a go at rewiring it myself. I have a perspex TR cover so I can add that too. Not sure about a refin as I quite like the look of it....but hey if I can get it done cheap enough it would have to be mapleglow or white. I will put up some pics at some point. Anybody out there got a white 4001 scratch plate?

  12.
Aha... these codes drive me crazy... it was ages before I learned what GAS was, to embarased to ask...
Yes I wondered what GAS was myself for a while! Anyway I'm looking for an electric upright bass or electric double bass for this nice CV P bass so let me know if you have anything suitable, a cash sale for 250ish also welcome.
  13. Here is my lovely CV 51' P Bass, a recent purchase from my local music shop as I was knocked out by its playability, construction and looks. Unfortunately I have to sell it as I my EUB has had an accident and the neck is cracked so I need a replacement. So I'm looking for a cash sale of 250 including gigbag and tags or a swap for a nice EUB. Any interest let me know. The P bass has not been gigged and is virtually mint so its a nice bass for the money. Here are some pics. Cheers. I'd rather this were picked up from Lancaster or could meet in Preston.

  15.
Cheers warwickhunt, just didn't feel right. Karl.
I contacted him after it ended, he said it was a refin, the scratchplate was a custom job but everything else was original, he said it weighed 5kgs - I'd say about right for a 70s P. Shame he didn't include this in the ad as I think it put many of us off! Sounded a decent enough chap he said he would accept the start price if interested....going to give it a miss as I already have a 70s P bass.

  17.
Would like to have a go at sorting that. Even though I haven't actually finished sorting the one I have (got a new plate and nut to go on).
Have contacted him and am going to have a look as I live quite near. Looks like it will be a fun winter project for me if I go for it....which I am!

  20.
Gareth - thanks for looking and for the offer - I've always been a fan of Yamaha basses (and nearly bought a yamaha as a first 'expensive' bass). Yours looks lovely too! However, I'm not really looking for trades thanks - I have far too many basses and the office/house is clogged. I'm afraid it's got to be cash on this one. Cheers anyway and good luck with the Yammie - quality instruments
pm'd
  21.
At our first metting he told me he got sick of seeing so many Les Pauls around, so he bought one & cut another cutway into it to balance the look - and that's where he got the idea for the J1. There was a guitar shop in Blackpool that had a "Not For Sale" JB Strat on the wall, thru' neck. The owner said he'd been offered £10k (which I took with a pinch of salt) & he'd rejected the offer. Some time in the past hour; & yet still the cheap copies are up there. Definitely a pattern there.
Damn shame! I think everyone should have a fair go - despite the high pricing this was a lovely bass - seems that the private sellers are now getting a hammering from eBay and the Rickenwaffe.....sort of echoing what's happening in Britain at the moment....where big business and those supposedly representing our best interests are exempt from the 'rules'.
  22. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250877637733?ssP...984.m1423.l2649 I wonder how long it will last before the Rickenwaffe snipe it? I do think the pricing is a wee bit optimistic in the current economic market. Nice example though, about 600 less and I'd be tempted!
  23.
See: http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adver...9/c7e66d5f.html
I contacted the seller who sent me some pics, I noticed the headstock logo didn't match the backplate - the plate should have a serial number if its original and there is only an F stamped on it and a black plastic 'cushion' (which doesn't match the earlier decal in any case). To be fair as soon as I pointed this out to him he amended the ad.
