The Trace Elliot Dual compressor might be a bit more of what you're looking for.
+1 I went from Punch factory to teh TE dual band. Much happier, and I'm an Old Git
 2.
I quite like watching a live bass solo, a player doing something random or unrehearsed I find interesting. Written solos can be really good too, something that's been worked on and rehearsed is just as valid as an improvised part.
Er ... I don't think many solos are unprepared, "random or unrehearsed", even if that just means the player has played a solo in that space in the tune 20 times before with the same band. If you are thrown a surprise solo on stage by a bandleader, or circumstances, then you still fall back on the chords, arpeggios, melody and scales that fit the tune... And if you know it's a good idea to have some shape to a solo, a start, middle and end, then that will influence what you play. So the actual note choice and sequence may differ from solo to solo but the components will come from the same practice and preparation.
 3.
...that includes homeless people with penny whistles and middle-aged men at wedding receptions playing Mustang Sally.
Yup, that's me: Middle aged Mustang Sally, sometimes in the street for pennies... Re solo creation, We went around that a while back Here
 4.
Fingers crossed I'll have the bass in about a week! Eude
a very merry Christmas then ... "Eude! Come and open your presents!" "No need, thanks" widdle widdle widdle
 5.
Of those two options, I prefer the traditional straight line, but have you considered packing them further towards the bottom of the bass, something like this: S.P.
That's a good possible too. I like my knobs a long way from the strings for pick wielding/slashing without crashing into the knobs
 6. This one? Fretless Fender P/J with mods
 7.
Right. I guess it would serve to hang a flask of tea from, and maybe a plastic Tupperware box full of sandwiches, if I can find a suitable interfacing device.
Splendid idea! I can't quite see how it would work for a strap unless you have the arm dimentions of an orangutan ..
 8. My vote goes for the Straight line And some kind of matt black knobs with some kind of position indicator thing so you can see if it's on or off without having to twiddle or play something to find out. EG I always attach my P bass knobs so the grub screw is in a specific and visible place for me to see when they are set to full on.
 9.
I'll buy it if I can see a good example of the solo bass stuff.
It's only £3 ... Go on, risk it
 10.
the bass is in customs now ... and my tax is a whooping $600!!!
Whaaaa!?! Wow! Makes the UK import charges seem almost reasonable ...
 11.
No...it's still in place and the offer still stands.
Oh good-oh!
 12. Yeah top tune, top bassline That's on all year round in our house
 13.
I've gone from Rotos to Elixirs too - Rotosounds would get too dead for me after about a month ( usually6-8 gigs at the time, all sweaty ). Elixirs tend to last me about 6 months. Even after they go hairy, they still tend to sound OK. If anything, the tension seems to go a bit first, making them feel too floppy - weird! Cheers Alun PS I should probably mention I am an Elixir endorsee, but would use them even if I wasn't , so there
They feel oddly "wet" sometimes too .. it's weird but that is how they feel .. I like them a lot though, so do my soft sothern wuss fingertips
 14.
I've asked for some photo's so it will be interesting to see what it is like. £2500.00 is a lot of money and would probably be better used elsewhere especially as this would probably cause a divorce...
ha ha be careful what you bid for
 15.
HI, I have a blue (wood grain) yamaha TRB4-II with gold tuning pegs etc. for sale, or if anyone is willing to swap/exchange for an EUB. Not been gigged hard, low fret wear. Selling as not been used for a long time and I'm now wanting to delve into the world of the EUB. Lovely tone and solid feel to the instrument. not sure about price.... seen some go for around £300? If interested or any comments please reply. Pictures available on request. having trouble uploading to the site, sorry Based near Leeds (liversedge)
Old Horse murphy has a Stagg EUB that he's selling on behalf of his friend .. maybe you can work a deal ...
 16.
Maybe it is genuine...... Whoops.....feel a bit rotten now..
I'm sure you'll like it
 17.
Yeah, I thought that Si He's also got it up on Gumtree where he's asking for £400. Either he got ripped off when he bought it or............
snif snif is that BS I smell? So what are you trawling ebay basses for then? GAS attack or planning to take something on holiday to sell?
 18.
He looks like he could sell me some life insurance. i now feel a righr scruff playing in jeans and a tshirt.
ha ha TBH he looks like's he's come straight from work in the solicitors and jumped up for a jam, a bit like they used to do on Ali McBeal Somehow Clapton in a suit looks so much more cool ...
 19. Ah, the old Ford Escort driver's door scrap yard conversation: "How much are your Stagg EUB's, mate?" "£300" "£300? they're £250 down the road" "Does he have any?" "Well No, but they are due in at any time" "Well, when I don't have any mine are £250 are too"
 20. £50 P+P? I assume he's wrapping it in stocks and shares
 21. When I used to play Rotosounds I played them 'til the twang declined below my personal twang threshold, then boiled them gently in vinegar solution, then stuck them back on ... Repeat 'til the strings died totally or broke... The Elixirs I use now I keep on 'til the hairy bits that come out when I use a pick get too much or the twang goes (usually about 2 years/60 gigs).
 22. aaaaaaaaaaaarg will you all please stop waving this under my nose!
 23. That depends an a huge number of rather personal factors like taste, feel, sound preference, how rich you are etc ... Some people only change their strings if they break (James Jamerson was famous for that) others change them every gig .... There's an article about strings in the forum WIKI (look top left of the forum pages, up above the picture of the jazz bass) Here's a link, have a trawl through there. Basschat forum WIKI article on strings
 24.
£106 for a US Fender, got to be worth the cash.
Ha ha yeah It would be if it wasn't for the pesky $150 he wants to post it (USPS rate is about 80 USD last time I looked) plus the VAT, duty and damn handling fee you'd pay .. Why do we have to pay a handling fee when the sendr has paid the postage?
 25. Hang on, isn't that Mel Smith?
