Oh now this makes me wornder if a real Fender 57 had rounded knobbies .... -
You've got it in one... I think OG is under the impression that you uploaded the vid to YouTube yourself.
Oh sorry, I assumed you had done that. I didn't notice it was the venue's videos. If you do upload stuff you can then edit the description text. That's where you want a hot link. It just makes it easier for people who watch your vid to go straight to your website. I guess you could suggest to the venue video person that they add in a link to their website at http://www.shorethingacoustic.co.uk/ and yours as well (and the other artisist they have videos for) it makes commercial sence all round It was quite hard to find the Shore Thing Acoustic website so they could probably do with the links OG
Simon - Confusingly, there appear to be two different types of knob fitted to the 57's featured on the 21frets.com JV Precision page - both flat-topped and rounded. The ones fitted to my bass are the rounded type, and were on there when I bought it. Unfortunately, I can't be any more certain of their provenance than that, so I really shouldn't speculate further. It's a great bass that I hope will go to a player who enjoys playing it.
[SET Anorak ON] AFAIK yours is a '62 stylee 'cos it's got a rosewood board and a tortie plate. Real and re-issue 62 P basses had flat tops. Same as the Telecaster (guitar) knobs. Parts bin economies I guess. As you mentioned in your eBay description the previous owner may have changed the pots to go with the EMG's and thus the knobs too. It's probably a splined shaft/solid shaft thing ..
Sorry, I gave up too, after waiting much longer than I would ever normally do. We've gone the youtube route: http://www.redjackson.com/video.php and I've also used photobucket in the past. I had a quick look at your source code, and although I've got a pretty good understanding of html/xhtml, I couldn't see the code that links to the video... was it loaded with javascript (I don't know js)? Cheers, Teej
Teej You should have a link back from your youtube "more info" text section to here: http://www.redjackson.com Use the whole address, with the http:// , and youtube will hotlink it, otherwise it just treats it like text and will need cutting and pasting. Cheers OG
Cheers Jon - it plays as good as i looks (but I would say that!) There's a photo of a 57 in Sunburst on that site. The knobs are identical to the ones on my bass. It could be that they are the original knobs after all...
No your knobs should be flat tops not domed. -
+1 for Youtube plus imbed it onto your website. If you write the blurb well with your keywords and use good tags and a full link back to your site you'll draw people in from there too. Then it gives you another route into your site from cross references and also some extra Google paths to your site. EDIT: 5 minutes and still no playing video ...
Hi all, I'm the seller of this bass, so if anyone has any questions I'll be happy to answer them. I've been a member here for a little while, but rarely visit. The reason for my very recent registration on Ebay is that I just haven't bothered before. Anything that I have bought or sold in the past has been through family or friends. I have a few things I want to sell on at the mo, so rather than burden them with it all I have registered myself. I can very well understand somebodies reluctance to bid on the bass for that reason. Good to speak with you Simon (Old Git) earlier - hope to see you at The Claude in March. All the best, Paul
Cheers Paul and good luck with the sales.. -
That's in the States, Wayne... They have to pay more for European made stuff .. oh and and Ashdown are probably still trendy and exotic there

Save up a bit more?
Just out of interest are you expecting to get it for £395? Someone may well be going around to see it and they could be wasting their time... why not wait and see if you win it? If you are the winning high bidder then someone can check it out for you, if it isn't as the seller described then don't pay and neg them, if it is what it appears then pay them. I'm not trying to rain on your parade but you could be building yourself up (and potentially wasting someones time) for a fall if this bass ends up going for stupid money to someone in Europe. Just sayin'!
Hey Warwickhunt, Thanks for the concern but it's no real problem for me to make a house call to check it out .... (save for the fact that Mrs OldGit is on call and in work all weekend) Nowhere is that far in Cardiff, it's not a huge place, and meeting a fellow bass person in the area is always helpful for my depping network .... -
That would be great if you could, as long as it's not too much trouble. If it's legit and doesn't sell it will no doubt be relisted so there should be some time. The guy seems genuine through his description but that zero feedback really scares me.
Ask him if I can pop round and PM me with the details .. -

I'm in Cardiff if you'd like me to go and have a look ... No great expert on JV P basses but I have owned one a few years ago and I've played a few, and many Fenders . -
I had a Stagg EDB in Violin Burst for Christmas. Gobsmacked doesn't come close. It is fantastic, though I do have a question regarding tuning. It arrrived pretty much in tune, with just a small tweak here and there, but I was surprised it didn't sound lower and deeper. It's the same notes as my bass guitar. I thought, with it being a much longer scale length and all that, it would be tuned an octave lower? If so, my guitar tuner can't handle it. Any thoughts?
Tune with harmonics. 12th "fret" or 5th "fret" Should be Ok

Why do people assume everything complex has to be "intuitive" these days so it will be brilliant out of the box and require no manual reading from them? Daft ..
I received a Squier P-Bass so now sat staring at it hoping that all of a sudden I will magically know how to play it!
Welcome to Basschat! We've all been there and there's loads of encouragement avalable. Best step by far, and well worth the investment, is to get a few lessons from proper tutor. Bass present wise, Ms Oldgit got me an Auralex Gramma pad to go under my rig on stage. Looking forward to trying that out in a real gig. Oh and my new Japanese P bass arrived
RTFM!!!!!!!!!! Merry Xmas
What he said .. But really, do "read the F@@@ manual" 'cos the Zooms are gereat once you get the hang of them and the manual is really very good. Rad it all the way through first

I'm a TB member but I mostly stay around here these days. I've had dealings with very nice people on TB - I only just missed a buying opportunity recently and the seller PM'd me to offer me first go at his other similar basses,. Nice thought, specially as I'd be haranguing him for not being prepared to ship to the UK I've also had my head bitten off a few times, mostly for trying to understand why 1200 watts seems to be a working minimum for a bedroom/small club bass player in the US.. I still don't get it...
