Huh, I'm seeing double (listings that is)
OldGit replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Oh that seems odd, cash on collection though ... -
Gumtree, Trade It (free ads paper around Bristol), There are a few Glos based forums.. Ask Parker Muse for pointers as he is in your area. Literate, clearly written and specific adverts saying what you want to do, level of ambition, commitment, pro, semi-pro, age, influences etc. - put them up in music shops, college noticeboards, give them out at jam sessions. Play at and make contacts at jam sessions and let people know you are looking.
Yep, but I remember reading somewhere that he played bass of a few Grace Jones tracks also - he had of course previously been bassist in the 70's prog rock outfit the Glitter Band
That was one hell of a show. I remember GG and crew bringing the NEC show to the Colston Hall on a Christmas tour one year. It was huge and very entertaining. Shame he turned out bad. I auditioned for bassplayer for Jonathon King once as well .. Didn't get the gig ... Not pretty enough, I guess..

Well, like a bad penny you've turned up again, You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens. I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell, Well, you double-dealed me, baby and I broke like a shell. -
Well, they are the same, but one I referred to when you DON'T use that option and then again to indicate the service can be free if you DO use it. I just found out, for example, the folks in Holland don't even get the choice.
Ah so you did. Sorry, I didn't read it slowly enough for me ol' brain
Hi guys - a stunning example of this bass, limited to a run of 1,000. Finished in metallic candy apple red with matching headstock and pearloid scratch plate. More pics to follow BTW - I don't mind accepting paypal, but please be aware that payment can take 3-5 days to clear and also that if you do not send the money as >personal>other, then PayPal will charge just as they do on eBay. If you send via >personal>other, then it is free! It also seems that not all countries have this option, so any extra charges will have to be met if you want to pay via paypal.
Hiya That's interesting about Paypal .. Can you just clear up the difference though? Both look like >personal>other
The rhythm guitarist in my blues band (experienced guy, been playing 30+ years) went to see Wilko Johnson last Friday (a band I've seen MANY times, of course) and sent me an email over the weekend. He reckons their bass player is really good and I should check him out. He thinks the guy's name is Norman something, and apparently he used to play with The Blockheads. I'm not making this up. I nearly replied that I'd just heard of a blues guitarist called Joe Satchmo or something who's allegedly quite good, too. Or maybe it was Eric Clappedout.
Ha ha We are special, there's no doubt

Sounds prefectly reasonable to me... Mind you he may not have taken into account the effects of a further month of recession since his example sales finished and Christmas being closer on eBay bass prices .. As for his comments on paying the fees for listings and using Pay pal - well that's his prerogative ...

Does a Markbass LMII come with rack 'ears'?
OldGit replied to GreeneKing's topic in General Discussion
Not unless you bought them as an extra at the time. If you want some you have to find a dealer with some in stock as the main MB dealer central charges shops £10 or so for a one-off order. This they will pass on to you, of course, virtually doubling the cost. -
I gather NWR was really into Jaco when he came up with that bassline, which makes total sense. A while back my bandmates decided we'd cover this whilst I was absent but I've yet to put aside the time to nail it properly. I'll be singing as well for added fun... Alex
Singing lead and playing bass on this? Wow!
Of course I've heard it before, but not for years, and never with an ear for the bass line.
Glad to open that particular window for you
See my post above. www.transglobal.org.uk are very very cheap, so cheap that I'm being argued with about their prices on another thread! They're a forwarding company that use DHL, UPS etc and get massive discounts. Quick quote using the same dimesions of a bass tha I recently sent to the US using them, with DHL Air Express 3 day as the carrier: £79.11 door to door plus £9.00 for insurance up to £200 (you can specify whatever value you want, I just arbitrarily picked £200 becuase you said it wasn't worth that much). Go straight to DHL and it would be about £200 I rekon, so that's a good saving.
Good stuff, Waldo Prose, couldn't you just sell the bass here and ship the money? She'd then be able to get a reasonable bass in oz without the hassle and cost and tax and bluddy handling fee of getting it shipped .... of course if she's very emotionally attached to it that may not be a possibility. So .. who knows a way of getting cheap shipping <from> the Phillipines to the UK? I was talking to Reuel about an interesting bass his friend has but the shipping to teh UK was likely to be $250 .... -
If you took out everything except the bass, drums and vocals, Rhythm Stick would still be as funky as feck. In fact, I'd love to hear a Bass Only Mix..! If you had everything in there except the bass, what would you have? Certainly not a 'driving' tune. The bass IS the song, it's a masterpiece.
Ha ha You cme and tell them next time you see us Rich Actually I was planning to stun 'em wth the effect of adding the bass as they've only worked on it it without me so far
One solution would be to add a feedback section to personal profiles. When people receive their item or whatever, they can go onto the seller's profile and just post about the transaction. Then if you are thinking of buying from someone it's as easy as clicking on thier name to find out their feedback.
+1 much easier
I think I'm right in saying that it was the bassline that was the prime mover for the track being born in the first place. I can also say that the bassline is not original and is from a song of around 15-20 years earlier...blowed if I know which one though! S' OK: hose me down in napalm if I'm in error.
You may be confusing that with the story of Sex n Drugs and Rock and Roll where Ian Dury borrowed the chorus melody from an Ornette Coleman record bass line. That itself was borrwed from an old English dance tune called Old Joe Clarke. Wikipedia on the subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_and_Drugs_and_Rock_and_Roll Here's an Old Joe Clarke vid that proves that nothing is new - even the kids wearing their jeans so low their belts are around their knees
Never heard that like that before. Wouldn't have even guessed that there was a bass line like that in there.
You mean you've not heard Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick before?
Won't solve it but may ease the pain and help a little....try some glucosamine gel, you can get it from lots of places but Holland & Barratt do it cheap. Mike
Or ibuprofen gel. Trip to the doc is best though

Here's what one said after I sent them the youtube of MarloweDK playing it "Weird, that's not how I "heard" it, just goes to show. In fact while it's a nice bumbling along bassline, it doesn't really drive the track, ... sounds to me like it's keys and guitar that drive it along." I guess they are not bassplayers I just just hope it goes down really well on stage
You could always buy one of the DHA optical valve-based compressors: http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/Products,%20...sCompressor.htm If you hunt through basschat they get rave reviews....but they're a pound short of £150.
That's not a compressor in the same way as the TE dual or Punch factory. I bought one of the first batch but it just didn't do what I expected a comp to do - as I'd been using onboard ones in Peavy gear. Dave Hall explained that it's supposed to do somthing else which it does very well. Fair enough but it was certainly not what I was after. Then I got the TE dual.
