1.
Fancy a trade for my Wal Mach I triangle? Dangles from a piece of finest plaited Venezuelan goat string, with the bell inlaid with Malaysian gnatwood and MOP detailing. PM me if you're interested. Perhaps we can work your Status Graphite cowbell into the deal too?
Nah I'm never parting with that cowbell. Rob Green wove the graphite by hand and the Turin Shroud effect is just accidental. Mind you whacking the image of Lady Thatcher's face on the other side if deeply satisfying. Jeeeeeze Rich, I was hoping to keep the cowbell quiet, now everyone will be getting one...
My band has played the Dry Bar - different promoter, but I think we had to pay to use the backline and no, we couldn't use our own We were also offered a gig at The Water Rats, but we had to buy X number of tickets up front. Needless to say, we politely told the promoter what he could do with his tickets... Seems that the bad old Pay-To-Play days are making a comeback
Being forced to use someone elses back line seems extreme but in general Pay to Play is perfectly fair .. All you have to do is be good enough, and on the promotion case enough, to draw a crowd .. That's usually all the promoter wants you to do.. This guy sounds a tad different, but in general pre-sales etc is all about getting the lazy bands to do their bit to bring in enough people to make the evening financially viable for all. Nowt wrong with that. No one owes you a gig...
 4.
Played our annual Christmas party at the American Air Museum, Duxford on Sat. 4th year in a row and our best yet. 430 people and we set up and played under the wing of a B-52. The acoustics are normally horrendous here but the wing kept all the bands goodness in check and we sounded very clear and punchy for a change. Still had about a sec delay on everything away from the dance floor but that didn't matter. Had my SA450 on about 1/4 in to my 1212L but it was loud enough that my rig kept moving around. Audience were in a much better mood this year as last year a lot of them had redundancy hanging over them.
Lucky you didn't bomb ... I'll get me coat
 5. yeeeeeeha! i've got one of those too Should be on the pre-requs for any bassists partner: "cool with GAS attacks"
 6.
My girlfriend studied Piano and various wind instruments to a very high level, all the grades done I think. She can play owlt site reading first time even having not sat down at a piano in months. But she’s refuses to improvise in the slightest.
Yup Mrs OldGit's like a rusty version of that on Piano and flute ... Music no problem, freestyle? Nah, she can't even do an arpeggio in C maj by ear
 7.
Either that or sell my basses and get a triangle.
The much maligned triangle is rather like a bass in that the general public think its an easy instrument to play, and at some levels it can be, but to play it well takes a huge amount of skill. Anyway I have an early 60's Fender Imprecision triangle for sale or exchange. It's got some relicing and the beater and string have been replaced by Gotoh upgrades. Oh and teh bell part was replaced in the 90's with a JV Squier part but te label stiill says Fender .. PM me if you are interested ...
 8.
i only just got the bass..but i dont play 5s...or rather dont know how...?...this is the second 5 ive bought but i just cant get to grips with it...
Good luck wth the sale .. To convert to a 5 just lock your 4's away and only play a 5 for about 6 months .. That's what I had to do ..
 9. +1 on being heavily influenced by Bruce's style: the power, aggression, upfront-in-the-mix, pick use, visuals, just about everything really. I still pop "tube station" style harmonics when no one is looking Top player and after this I'll be going to see FTJ as soon as possible. Re the OP. That's just what P basses sound like if you play with twangy strings, a lot of attitude and a pick ...
 10.
Not yet, though one of the contacts Si supplied has got back to me so hopeful still. Had to pull this Friday's gig though.
Fingers crossed, mate
 11. ha ha that's great I've played with a guitarist like that - a genius on stuff he knew but he really sweated on anything out of his control. Years later I discovered his way of coping was to play through every tune in the set, lead breaks, intro's and outro's before every gig.
 12.
Wow, yeh, the Burns shop. that's one I did forget about. Probably because I didn't really go in there much. We used to regard it as 'outside the zone' or 'a bit posh and not one of the lads'. Chappels of Bond St was another (later on though, my classical guitar came from there). Ah, the naivete of youth!
When my (musical) partner died in the late 80's he left all his sheet music and books to me. They were all from Chappels with prices like £1.50 for a Gordon Lightfoot song book ..
 13.
Also in a musical bent, does anyone remember a basement record store a couple of hundred years from Centrepoint called Simons? They were on the Wardour Street side of Oxford Street. I always remember everything was hideously cheap in there...usually European imports. The shop always smelt fragrant (not in the dope way)...something they pumped through the air-conditioning. Fruity. I got in someone's car the other day and they had a smelly thing in there and I was transported back to 1980 again. I just kind of blurted out 'your car smells just like a record store I used to go in in my teens'. P
yeah i do, as my name is Simon
 14.
Some one should introduce her to one of Mr Fender's finest and a nice amp to go with it.
You have no folk'soul !
 15. Imagine having to move that around!
 16.
Mine doesn't shut the f*ck up. I'm grumpy this morning.
Grumpy? Arn't you just tad tall to be Grumpy?
 17.
D'oh Thanks Si. I'd love to think I could do it but I can't sing enough of the tunes in the current keys, if I could, wouldn't be so much of a problem as I'm generally okay with singing and playing once I've got my head around it. If anyone surfaces that'd be fab but agents have given us until the morning to find someone or they'll give gigs to another act (which may be for the best anyway. Cheers, Pete
emailed some phone numbers ..........
 18.
BWAH-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAAAAAAAA *collapses in protracted fit of uncontrollable mirth*
Shuuuuuuush!
 19. I'm passing your note around the people I know in Bristol and S Wales... How about depping in a bass player and you doing the singing? Would that work? May be easier to find a dep bassist than a front man who can learn your style etc..

I will see what I have online, and will do my best to get one soon. It's as frustrating for me as it is for you!
Ha ha now if you were selling this on Gumtree we'd all be yelling "scam!"
