IMO it's just a horrible synth-like mess compared to his earlier tone as heard on Live At Leeds etc (which was fantastic)! But each to their own and all that
+1 Though that later one is a solo rather than a "cut through the band" tone. Having watched that loads of times, and as a horn player, I like watching his breathing - it fits in with the phrases, just as we have to on our aerophones

Here's some idea of prices. Oh, how we wept........ In one piece this would be on US eBay for £350 BIN, maybe more, from the parts people there the marks on the spring and D saddle are the remains of the foam damper which decomposed in the parts box over the years 60's bridges list at about £200 ...
For web-based usage: maybe. But if a band has already established a name, has property in that name, presentation of that name protected by trademark or copyright, and you attempt to operate the same name in the same field you could find yourself being litigated for infringement. Alternatively, usage could also attract an action for "passing off". It's not as straightforward as simply registering a URL.
Sure.. But I'd suggest, M'lud, that any band that hasn't registered the url's and myspace in their band name may be deemed to have not done enough to adequately defend their trade name. We had that problem. Someone chose to use the same name as the band I was in despite us being very visible on the web for 5 years before they started. Then they got a poor review in the Guardian, with a picture of our band attached, (lazy picture editor ...) Didn't hurt us as it was a different sector and geographical region but for them it was a stupid thing to do as every time a fan or radio person or booker tried to find them they found us instead. They made pretty good club records though and we even had bookers try to book them by calling us ... So ....... My advice would be to use a name made up of two unconnected words that no one else has or is likely to have. Say Arctic and monkey Keiser and Cheif Wealthy and Musician
That's what I thought but then I just tried finding a mate's band who already have FORTY gigs booked for 2009 and they have virtually no web presence at all, they mainly use an agent and even that web page is sparse of info - just goes to show...
Yeah but if they choose not to have a web site, no listing on the web under gig-gide or the agent's website or myspace and you get their name that's their problem.
Heres one of the obligatory promo shots we all dread lol.
Yeah Why do 80% of originals bands dress in black and pose "wid additude" near concrete? Hardly "original" is it? Live shots are so much better for promotion ... -
Hi Folks, i'm looking at joining the Stagg party in the next couple of weeks. Where is the cheapest place to purchase one at the mo?
My current band will be fizzling out shortly but some members may reform and to be fair we ought to change the name. Is there an easily accessible online directory of bands currently working? I suppose most of them should have some web presence so a check by Google or in MySpace will probably turn up most of them but would be nice if there was a single directory somewhere. Cheers Kev
Kev, by far the best way is to do a url check http://www.uk2.net/ If they don't have the url and you get it (and the various vriations) then you win. You'll have to check Myspace as well as the url check won't look there.

Making a boring bassline more interesting?
OldGit replied to arabassist's topic in Theory and Technique
The new Bass Guitar Magazine (25 years of BGM) has a pertinent quote - pertinent to what this thread became rather than what the OP intended A guy was playing bass with a band he was relatively new to. In the break the very much more experienced keyboard player approached him and said "Someone in this band has to play the bass line. As you are wearing the bass, how about it being you? Another was a tale of a guy auditioning for Chris Rea, the blues guitarist. The bass player said he was in his "6 string Warwick and showing off his chops" phase. After a bit Mr Rea stopped the music and said "Hey, I'm the guitarist in this band ..... and get yourself a bass" he got the gig but switched to a Musicman ... I think those two sum up over playing quite well,, -
SM58 is the obvious choice not least because sound engineers won't give you any hassle for using it. However I've found that as I tend to sing lower than many vocalists the SM57 works better for me as it's less boomy in the lows and a bit smoother on top so the midrange comes through better. The SM58 is voiced very effectively for typical tenor rock/soul/etc vocals but on higher (female) or lower (baritone/bass) vocalists the flatter response of the SM57 can be more flattering/audible. Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and AKG probably make even better mics for the money but I have no idea where to start with them! (I guess when it comes to vocal mics I'm acting like those bassists that automatically buy Ampeg...) Alex
Ah now that's an interesting point .. As a baritone I may try my SM57 next gig to see if it works better for me. My sm58 does sometimes lack clarity with my voice, especially for the talky bits. I know sound engineers have got out the Sennheisers for women singers I've worked with but, again, no idea what model of mic it was.
