Hi All We were aware that we would clash with the last day of Music Live. We were also aware of this very early in the year. Problem was the RNCM wanted us to have the whole event and this was the only date possible otherwise we would not have been able to hold the event until next year sometime or would not have had as much space. Maybe it was or wasn't the right decision but from the attendance and most of the feedback we have had I personally think it was still very successful. We will of course try to avoid this in future. To be fair though most of the traders we deal with (apart from the big boys which we endeavour to get more involved and more entry level equipment available) prefer to show at Bass Day rather than Music Live as they feel Bass Day is more tailored to them. A lot of the traders have also commented on the professionalism, appreciation, consideration and genuine enthusiasm for the product that the public come to the event show. We continue though to address everyone’s concerns and feedback to make future events even better. What we want to avoid is Bass Day UK just becoming another trade event, from the beginning this event has been about bringing great artists to the public. While the trade is an important part of it our priority is bringing artists to the public for one day a year that they generally would not see. Thanks Gary
Gary Thanks for answering and explaining things. OG
In fairness, Bassday was the same weekend as it was last year and was booked a long time ago. Cheers alun
First in the dary rule in action? OK, I realise that getting the stars booked is hard and probably involves very long term planning - it must be the same for Music Live But surely someone in Bassday looks at the Music Live projected dates and thinks "Ok in 2012 we'll move it to a different weekend." It just makes sense not to clash.
I'd have also liked to try out some other manufacturers this year - we had the same bunch as last year whereas previously, we've seen both warwick and Eden stands. My mate Mike made the comment that there wasn't alot to attract youngsters and newcomers to the instrument - none of the amps / basses could really be called entry level
Was this possibly because of the clash with Music live? That must be avoided in the future.
Isn't "Thunderfingers" just that James May from Top Gear, making up his paltry BBC salary? (apologies if you are the same "Thunderfingers" on this 'ere forum!!)
Nah, ironically, Hammond plays the bass in the Top Gear Band. May (no relation) plays the keyboards
Hi all, Long shot but here goes anyway... In order to satisfy my OCD tendencies I need a Lakland Duck Dunn to pair with my Darryl Jones. Unfortunately I am skint at the mo' but I can offer my 08 American Standard Precision as a straight swap. It's Blizzard Pearl with RW board and is currently strung with Fender stainless flats for that Motown thump. It's in excellent condition with only a couple of very minor blemishes. I had it setup by Ged Green and it plays and sounds great. The photo shows it when I first received it (pre setup for the eagle eyed) with the original scratchplate. I have now swapped this for a pearl white but I will include both in the trade. More pics if any interest. I'm willing to drive up to 150 miles from Manchester (ish) to swap and would rather not post. Cheers, Ray
You'd best talk to Dave http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=325919
We generally play in clubs, CIU/Workingmens clubs etc. We have seen three of our regular venues put in noise limiters and they make it really hard work playing there. They seem very bass frequency sensitive, and our drummer has bought a flat kit, which is like a bass drum skin on a stand and similar toms. I was told last week by one venue that these will be mandatory by 2010 under the good old HSE to protect the hearing of those working there. I hope this it not true
Well if they can find away of powering off the screaming loud punters that will work.
Thanks mate. Think Ill stick with the Hercules stand. Seems to do the biz for me. Cheers
+1 cheaper and it can double as a bass guitar stand too ..

We for starters don't play where there's a sound limiter or the venue has a noise ASBO in place. But we do play loud and very soft depending on what's required. I set the ooopmh knob for the loudest I'm likely to need it and then do the volume control with my fingers. I find the overall volume is totally dependant on how loud the drummer is playing. If he ramps it up so does everyone else, likewise if he takes it down we can all take it down too ...
Add me to the growing list of Stagg EUB owners. They've got some for sale on the Stagg stand at Music Live this weekend at £299 in Red only.... A few questions: 1. How do you fit the smaller of the two bits of bent metal? It doesn't seem to be the right shape for the angle of the holes. 2. What's the optimum height to set it at? 3. Where does the larger piece of bent metal go in relation to your body? 4. Finally anyone know of a good tutor in Nottingham?
Welcome to the club ... The left side prong you can forget about ,, It's for acoustic players when they use the "thumb" position up the top - The right hand one goes in with a big shove but initially the nylon in the holes is too tight so, to prepare, put one in, give it a good wiggle to squash and loosen things up, then whip it out and shove it in the other hole, wiggle and loosen that then the two will go in together. once you've managed that raise the prong untiil the nut is a eye level .. or down a bit. the right side prong will now lean against you, just ahead of your hip.. Once it's there the rotation is controlled and you can move your left arm about bit to play. Good luck oh and hook the lead over something eg the strap peg or you'll be standing on it and pull it out,,
There's a few here - http://www.bassland.net/jamersonhits.htm I wanted to really get into more Jamerson magic and went through my collection using that list. I was quite surprised to find I already had 95% of those tracks! I burned them all onto an mp3 CD which has never left my car CD player in 18 months
Are you taking orders?
motown gold 3 cd set is good. And get yourself the standing in the shadows book too.
+1 It has more than enough to get you going - the dots and famous players re-creating the lines on a couple of CDs Oh and don't get into the "Carole Kaye played this and James played that" debate, It really doesn't matter. Just listen to the lines. Pure brilliance.
I'm not saying it doesn't make sense - I just think it's a crap way of saying it.
Soooo How would you describe what it means in three words or less? It's just jargon and as such it conveys a concept to the knowing in an easy way. If we did away with jargon in life we'd all have to type and talk a lot more. It can be frustrating to be outside the group that knows what it means but once you've crossed that barrier it makes things easier.
