2.
If the name really suits your band/project could you change it slightly and still use it? If the other band is some distance away I think that'd work.
I used to take the booking /agent/punter calls for the band I was in that had been going (with an easy to find website) for about 10 years when someone else decided to use the same name. as [singer's name] and the [our band name]. They recorded some singles, got some Radio One air play and a gig review in the Guardian that had our picture - the review basically said they were crap - but it had our picture (from our press page on our website). I got some calls from people trying to book the other band for the local Uni that, had I not been on the ball, we'd have ended up playing - and everyone would have been upset. It was very obvious for anyone who bothered to look at the website that we were not the other band but this all still happened ... So ........... Some people round here already know that I'm a bit of a web marketing specialist - with a particular interest in band websites and promotion. There is no point in doing this. You will just create hassle for yourself. If you just change the other band's name a little it will make very little difference. If you are not a tribute or covers band playing local weddings only; if you are an originals band you need to be the ONLY ones with your name. You also need to be able to have a every current and potential fan, booker, band member, record company scout, TV producer, film music researcher etc etc etc to find YOUR website/myspace and not theirs. If your name is virtually the same you will either miss the call or have to spend so much online and off line effort explaining that you are not the other band or a tribute band to them or why you chose to use the same name. Just don't do it.
 3.
I'm starting to picture people going in to the bass cellar & asking a question about something & getting a reply in an Italian American sorta accent of "who wants to know"
You may be on to something there, Joe, It's a front for the London branch of The Brotherhood. They don't ever sell anything in the shop 'cos then they'd have to buy replacement stock ... You just go in and out through a special door the back, down 44 floors to the bunker where the The Hub is .....
 4. It's not a good idea from a marketing perspective. If you start out with a name that is already in use you only win if you can get the myspace and website URL - all the URL's and all the variants. If they already have either, forget it and use an original name. It's easy to check if someone else is active on the web - search on google, yahoo, ask.com and myspace. If you find a band with that name already then just walk away and leave it, it's not worth the hassle if you get good or if they get a bad reputation. Just be original, it's so much easier in the long run.

 9.
Craig Revel Horwood, his career is still in the ascendency I believe, though.
Oh I'll let you off then. From what I recall he's the axe man on X-cum dancing so that's Ok
 10. I had one like this. I watched my Luthier do it once. He took the neck off, with the strings still wound on They were loosened off but not right off the capstans, He just flipped it over, took the neck screws out enough to disengage the neck heel, "cocked" the neck so the adjuster was accessible at the beck of the body, tweaked it just the right amount, put it back in and tightened the screws and strings .. Took about 4 minutes ...
 11. You could add these things to the Basschat Wiki (up there in the top right menu of the BC pages).. Some are already covered but I am sure your stuff would be a useful addition.
 12. Has anyone had any Alexander technique training for this? I've not suffered from this but now I've had my technique "improved" things are hurting ...
 13. At the start of a practice, then you take a walk for half an hour whilst they call you names or have a swift talk through the immediate options then you come back and find out how you fit in to the band's future.
 14.
Oh my oh my, Just woke up this morning to find an email from the seller telling me I have not read his terms and conditions and has now sent me the full amount back into my Paypal account and due to the weak pound against the dollar I have ended up making £40. Result, Ebay/Paypal for once you haven't failed me. Thanks for the advice on here I now feel so relieved.
Er what T&C terms did you not comply with?
 15.
Hmm Cardiff guitars do have a shop and its down the bay... I don't have any Street basses though as they are custom made. I can get a prototype for you to try if you are intrested" Hummmm Not that interested, ta ...
 16.
Not easy to play.... but GREAT FUN to play.... "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses
Brilliant! 17.
jeez, Have to vote for that as the most fugly off-the-shelf-bass over 1k ever. 2 quickies tho... How strong are those toggle switches at the bottom? looks like you can only use a stand that grabs the neck, and deffinatley no leaning against your cabs Would prefer electronic stuff outside the instrument personally (wireless / overdrive etc) unless the bypass is totally uncoloured. also means you're carrying redundant stuff round your neck if you change for better / newer stuff. interesting idea, but seems a bit gimicky. +1 on the recharging doubts too. what's the point? would prefer to to leave the bass in it's case between uses and have a couple of sets of batteries recharging in a charger rather than having to leave it plugged into the wall, or make a hole in the case for a wire or whatever other solutions there are... again, what's the point when there dosen't seem to be any benefits of having an onboard charger?
+1 on all of that .. It's a bit like an answer looking for a problem and I doubt they did an awful lot of market research asking real bass players what they thought. ... Way back when I saw Canadian Blues guitarist Jeff Healy play a str@t with a built in wireless. It looked like he was miming as there was no lead and no wireless pack visible ... Apparently these are custom made to order only so I assume you can change things but if you take out the gizmos what are you left with? As for f'ugly expensive basses, I still think the Ashdown Loadstone Primal wins hands down
 18.
Just got back from seeing Mr. King tonight and I know he gets some stick from some quarters here but I thought that he was absolutely on it tonight. Looked like he had got some of the enthusiasm back and produced some very funky bass lines. Cheers, FP
Well that's good to hear. Saw him last time he played here (I won tickets from the local rag) We sat just behind the mixing desk and couldn't hear a note - way too mushy, and couldn't seen any thing he did 'cos of being blinded by the front of fretboard lights ...
