Do we f**k. Actually, that's not fair, they just always seem to offer us gigs when we've already booked one ourselves.
Ask for a referral fee then ...
There could be a number of reasons for it, oldgit - its not going to make me throw your old Jazz through the window. They have backissues on the www.bass-musician-magazine.com site now, but thanks for the offer.
You are welcome Wizard pups .. that's what I'd do ..
yeah we have one or two bands we recommend too... but there are not enough decent outfits around I'd feel comfortable passing on.
My objective is always to give people routes to find alternatives, rather than recommend anyone directly. We're pretty much on our own with the way we do things (in our area anyway) so we just try to be helpful. They come back for their next one, or recommend us anyway so I think it works...

Problem is getting the weddings spread across the year, obviously May through Sept is rammed. We had to turn down 15 enquiries at the Wedding show as we were already booked. 2010 is looking ok at the moment for us... I think we have 9 or 10 confirmed (with deposits) which is pretty good that far in advance...
Wat do you do whan you are already booked for a date? We have a long list of helpful people we give out to the punters...

  8. http://www.bignationalceilidh.co.uk/site/ ------------------------------------------------------- The Big National Ceilidh (pro: Kay-lee) is a night when, in cities, towns and villages all over the country, thousands of people will simultaneously be dancing to the music of live bands. The night is 18 October 2008. Each event will be locally organised and distinctive, but two main elements will bind them together: The proceeds from all the events will be given to a single, hugely worthwhile, charity, WaterAid; and at 10.00 all the bands will be playing the same tune (Jamie Allen) and as many people as possible will be dancing The Circassian Circle. -------------------------------------------------------- We're hijacking a club's annual dinner and dance that we are playing, for the Big Ceilidh Dance at 10 pm along with hundreds of other bands all over teh UK and the world and then doing a whip round for Water Aid. If you are stuck for something to do on Saturday night have a look at the venue list on the website linked above and see if there's one near you. Loads of fun and you'll save people's lives too. What's not to like?
  9.
Heh Heh, I like the idea of "folkin'" as a verb, or adjective "folkin musicians, they're all lazy bastards the folkin' lot of 'em" "What you doing tonight Charlie?" "I'll be folkin' 'til two in the morning" "what a stud"
we play a lot of "Folkin' Roll" with our feet on the monitors
  10.
Not last night but this morning and afternoon.. One of the worst paid gigs I do... in money that is, however the rewards are astonishing. It's for a charity called music in hospitals the gigs range from childrens wards in mental health institutions to acute care for badly injured and terminal patients through to old folks homes and hospices. It sounds cheesy but you really do feel a sense of doing something good as these people get so little of this sort of thing so they really appreciate it. I especially like playing for the older folk as they recognise some of the tunes and always respond.
A folkie singing guit@rist friend of mine makes his living playing those Music in Hospitals gigs by day and folkin' clubs by night. He tours constantly and manages to combine the two wherever he goes in the UK. He says it's much better to go and play a set to a grateful and responsive audience in the afternoon than hang around yet another cafe or soulless hotel room waiting for the evening gig.
  11.
I think I'll stick with the Jazz and Shuker now Si and put the money away for a rainy day (or until something I really fancy comes along!!) I knew I was pushing my luck with a P bass again, but my heart won over my (battered) head. Oh well, better to have loved and lost....
Sure ... Should find a home pretty fast Buy It! BUY IT!!! Man that would look so sweet next to your Shuker P5 ... No No no! You must wait for the right battered Japanese P bass at the right price! You couldn't hand this to jammers and walk away without worrying!. Be Sensible!
  12.
That is not necessarily true - they are called Residual Current Devices because they measure the difference between Live and Neutral - if there is something missing then they trip. this (I believe) is a true RCD there may be other ELD Earth Leakage detectors which measure the Earth current - these do not protect you from a missing earth. RCD's will work with just live and neutral (as you may have on your power drill or lawn mower. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.
Ask your guitarist?
  13. Wow, Nick, I hope you can sort things out before you run out of money... That's a lovely looking bass .. shame my Precision 4 string needs are rather more bashed and mashed than that ...
  14.
Thanks for the replys. Have not tried a new lead yet OG, as this one is mint ( but you never know) I will call the service dept in the morning Jay. will they be able to tell me if its still in warranty via the serial number? thanks once again Gary
Don't worry about the warranty running out, just take it back to the shop and, if they wriggle, quote the sale of good act "things should last a reasonable time". 15. Oh wow, Glad you are Ok. We have a sparks in my main band and he makes sure the power is always protected but I've been a bit lazy with my RCB when playing Deps .. I think I'll be more careful now.

  18.
As one of the UKs top bassists (modest too!) I find myself singing in a `scat' style over a piece; ie bi di bap de bappa zappata doing biddle-ee zeng a whacka di-diiiip. I then translate this onto said bass guitar! Try it. !
Hey Doc! 20. I just had to repair my bass to transmitter cable after the inner core insulation developed a tiny crack that allowed a single wire through from the screen... Worth trying a new one of those if you haven't Meanwhile if I use a frequency too close to the other 5 in the band things go a bit weird. Also don't use rechargeable batteries ..

Bass Guitar Magazine - UK, contributors are BC members, UK centric, UK adverts ... Smiffs have that too or your local shop can get it. That's it for mags with just bass. Some of the gu1t@r mags have bass bits ...
  22. I'd say Slade or Wizzard for maximum effect ...
  23.
We are doing Fairy tale of New York, we have'nt a female singer so i dont know how its going to turn out.
It'll be rather like Christy Moore's version then You just have to do this, how can you resist that bassline? Sadly the good youtube recording of the original ( by the waitresses) has disappeared .. There's the Spice Girls version though, but the bassline's been homogenised for public consumption
  24.
Wales Millenium Centre? Somehow, I don't think they'd like it either!
Played there ... twice No Journey in the set though ..
  25.
Sorry that was my fault - Planet Rock's breakfast DJ is Alice Cooper & his show is called "Breakfast with Alice". To be honest he gets on my tits & is seriously unfunny, some of his supposed jokes & puns are awful but he plays some good stuff at times, bit repetitive & obvious choices but better than Capital or Radio 1! Woke up to SAHB's Faith Healer the other day, now there's a great lead guitar sound, I love Zal Cleminson's SG tone from that era
Can't be doing with music radio first thing ... have to have Radio 4 tell me whats going on in the world .. OT ...... Faith Healer's brilliant. Old Grey Whistle Test live version - excellent stage show I'm off to blast that through the house immediately
