Wedding doing a dep for my regular dep acoustic ceilidh band: Fiddle, accordian, Django acoustic and me plus caller. Nasty migraine from 8 til 11 am meant I was feeling very fuzzy indeed all day so decided to play safe and play my new old 4 string Fender P bass rather than the Stagg upright or my E-C strung Shuker 5 bolt on I normally use for this gig. Both of those take some fairly serious brain power which I didn't expect to be available A rather dark venue, even though I took my little lights along, meant I missed the light up side markers from the Shukers. Have to address that, I think. Lots of enthusiastic and good dancing from the particularly nice looking crowd ( ) and expert, gentle, calling resulted in a fine night. Teh adrenaline cleared out my fuzzy brain and I was feeling fine by the end. It's always strange playing close to home these days and I was in the front door about 25 minutes after the last note was played Quite a contrast to my main band (based in England) where there's an hour's dismantle and an hour's drive home to do, usually. The P bass (through my powered monitor wedge for me and DI'd to the little PA for the crowd) worked well though I think a thumper may find its way into it at some point

OK Plan B Wayne and his band mates stand down the front during your spot wearing "Your bass player is leaving" T shirts ,,, -
$500 for shipping? Madness ... USPS has always been Ok for me. Usually about $80 for a bass not in a case.
Thats great when you are experienced and confident, and yes I do my guitarists fenders (strat and tele) like that (bloody things always seem to need tweaking one way or another very time we change strings) BUT I'm not sure it wise to advocate a noob trying this first time...... Unless I'm missing something....?
Just mentioned it 'cos it was a surprise. I'd take the strings off, myself, but then I'm not a pro with a deft touch in tweaking basses "just enough" and he is. Steve-norris said More like " I do not encourage people to work on their own guitars because if they realized how easy it was i would have half the work" Bit cynical, Steve, considering that article then goes on to tell you exactly how easy it is to do the simple stuff yourself.
I once took a neck off a bass with the strings still on and didn't like it one bit! I found unless you leave enough tension in the strings, they come off the tuners anyway and it starts getting messy. If you leave too much tension in em you run the risk of damaging the body / heel screwholes when the screws are loose. I'd imagine there is some kind of sweet spot which keeps the strings on and doesn't do too much to the screwholes but unless you're doing this sort of thing all day long it seems a little silly to risk damaging your bass to save 5 minutes putting the strings back on. Good trick though
He does seem to know what he's doing ... He is even happy to tell people how to do it: http://edgeguitarservices.co.uk/quickfix.htm however ... "I do not encourage anyone to work on their own guitars for the same reason I wouldn't advocate teaching yourself to drive; you will almost certainly get there in the end but not without causing a certain amount of chaos on the way."
Quit onstage, halfway through the 3rd song when everyone is rocking - (assumin you are that sort of band) - just stop, unplug, and leave.
WaynePunkDude jumps up and finishes set to rapturous applause and gets the gig! Best get the headline band to supply the backline though -
A letter to a headliner - it's London gigging, all right...
Haha, yeah g'wan... it was a cracker
So this famous Eurovision winning outfit now does the national chicken curcuit, two women, two men, one playing a Str@t. They only have 2 hits (or maybe three) so they do 20 minutes versions of each with a dub section and long, long guitar solos, drum solos, bass solos, harmonica solos .. and - Ok I'm lying ... They only have 2 or 3 hits so they do a "60's show" and a "70's show" to fill out the time. All to backing tracks. Their vocals are pretty good and the show is pretty good in a slick, dead eyed, lifeless, caberet "doing this 5 nights a week" kind of way. So it gets to the 60's show bit and they do Johnnie b Good - with the guitar intro ... the guy on stage does all the moves and off they go into the rock and roll section. The Sound man showed us his instructions "during Johnny B Goode intro turn the (real) guitar off" yup the intro was on the backing tape ... How we laffed .... -
Can he order you one? I bought a Hipshot D-tuner off him, he didn't have the one I wanted but ordered it for me. I find his prices are very reasonable, the D-tuner was about £20 less than Allparts.
I've asked but I think the supply is erratic.. Apparently it's called the "High Mass, Vintage" bridge or HMV (ooooops!) -

Best time to announce leaving a band...
OldGit replied to Cantdosleepy's topic in General Discussion
This isn't like a Dear John unless you habitually have a relationship with 4 partners at the the same time, in the same room, in public, and they all know about each other ... The problem with calling them all individually is that you have to do it 4 or 5 times and remember what you said to each ... Telling them all in a meeting in a pub will mean you can buy them all a drink and just say it all once. Also everyone in the band hears it at the same time and they all hear the same reasons. You can also then put a severance package, terminal bonus, and plan for replacement together in one swift single movement, young Jedi. -
