2. Does it say Precision on the headstock? I only ask as that looks like a Jazz to me ...
 3. Blige.. That went for £153 ... You'd get an entire VMJ for just a little more than that ...
 4. Hummmmm Quite like fancy tops but that looks like it's been ragged and sponge painted on some make over programme on dole TV ...
 5. Oh dear, He has a bid .....
 6.
'This bass was used by Jesus before he left the Grateful Dead to form the Devil's Satans' and so on. you get the idea.
Well that's just daft - Jesus clearly played an acoustic bass as there was no electricity in Palestine until at least 1924. Edit Ahh just had Sarah Palin on the phone, apparently there is a mention of electricity in Palestine (or "Israel" as she calls it.) in th year 25 in her version of the bible. And Dan Brown mentions a noiseless Precision in The Da Vinci Code, Chapter 32: "With noiseless Precision, the heavy wall slid sideways..." Oh hang on, I can see how Jesus may have existed, and played bass, but a noiseless Precision?
 7. [gtrits teeth] Lady in Red, Pino's genius almost eradicates the sight of those eyebrows [ungrits teeth] Oh I mean his eyebrows. Her's are rather fetching

 9.
Aye they're defo High Waisters...mmmm! High Waisters with boat soled shoes or platforms...those were the days Cool pics by the way...love the Judo Drummer
ha ha yeah It was easier to be trendy in those days as just about everyone wore the same styles bought from the same few shops. A lot less individualism ... Judo drummer has three arms in one pic and has a nice 70's blocks jazz stickin out of his side too .. Clever man That's not me, by the way, we've only played together for the last 20 years
 10.
I'm really into female singer/songwriters.... just about to get Joan Osborne's last covers album, Breakfast in Bed too.
Yeah thats a goodie Did you get her one called Relish? Love that one too.
 11.
Do you still have the flares?
Sadly not .. Flares and waistline have long since gone ,,, I don't have the Fender bassman valve head and 2x15 diagonal cab either .. That lot sounded really good ... More funny pictures of me playing in the dim and distant past? No problem: Ric 4001, same amp and cab, dodgy shirt and more flares, quite possibly Mister Buyright high waisters which were The Dogs at the time ... http://www.jellied-reels.co.uk/pics.htm#oldpics Share some of yours?
 12.
I was tempted to get Miles Davis - Kind of Blue, or a collection of his 'greatest hits', however I'm presently bored of jazz. Not what I want to buy, listen to or play at the minute. I wanted something with a groove, something with a pulse. Hence why I bought these.
? Everyone should have Kind of Blue in their collection, and at FOPP proces there's no excuse.
 13.
On hold, mate! I'm going to have to wait to do a custom order next year for that one. I've just landed a lot of gigs with a Blondie tribute so I'm going to need something a bit more traditional looking. With the Sadowsky pre pedal & some nice DR strings this would sound immense! Roscoe Becks are passive, aren't they??
Hiyah T'other Rich used to do a blondie tribute band if you need some tips on how to stay awake playing the same 12 tunes over and over inna exacto styleeee meanwhile here's a bump ..
 14. These were there, then gone, now they're back .. About £20 inc tax and post, from de Nederlands ... 15. Edited as I've come to terms with selling the pickup too .. I think now would be a good time to sell the bits I have from my original 1962 Fender Precision with the pound being so weak Vs the dollar. However I thought I'd list them here first in case there's someone on the forum who fancies them. So, from a 1962 Precision, L prefix serial number Pictures later but the list is Pickup Spiral bridge for Fender Precision or Fender Jazz (Sold) String tree Strap pegs (2) Bridge cover (large holes) Pickup cover (possibly aftermarket) (large holes) Tortoiseshell Scratchplate (cut into 5 pieces yeah, yeah I know. That's it in my avatar) Finger pull / thumb rest and screws Various screws - looks like 4 bridge screws and 4 others. These are all genuine and were removed from the bass by me in the 70's when I upgraded various bits. I'll be looking for serious money, I'm afraid, as I have been tracking similar items on eBay for a year or so .. No, sorry I don't have the bass or neck with "the funk" scratched into it ... Mine was white originally anyway. PM please if you are interested. This is what it, and I, looked like back then. I also have an 80's re-issue spiral bridge if anyone fancies that for £50 (sold)
 16. Malcom says it's a non-export one, model PB62-60
 17.
Went to pick up Si's SX P last night, what a guy and what a bass!!!! Really is one of the friendliest people to deal with.
Thanks Wayne, nice to meet you too, can't wait to see the SX P go pink
 18. I think this is the only sensible option: Air Studios
 19.
FWIW I tried OG's Shuker last night and it could well be the best feeling bass I have ever played, beautifully finished.
Very nice of you to say so, matey
 20.
Never quite got this sell-on business for custom instruments... I've had 4 instruments (guitar and bass) custom built form me and I would never consider parting with them EVER. Each has been designed to do a specific musical job and to replace a lesser "off the peg" instrument I had previously. In each case the instrument built was a collaboration between myself and the chosen luthier, where I specified how I wanted the instrument to look and sound and play and they did the technical stuff to make it work. A good luthier should always gently steer you away from anything that in their opinion isn't going to work, so there shouldn't be any problem with the instrument not living up to your expectations, and therefore there should never be any need to sell it.
Assuming you have the funds ...
 21. Yeah I've seen that before. Gert lump of the lacquer has fallen off the bottom and it's been painted black with car paint. That would be my guess ... S/N suggests Japanese, 84-85 ..
 22.
Thanks for all the replies. Always good to get replies from people 'outside' the company. I've always wanted to treat myself to a true custom made bass - not that my Warmoths are bad. Now, a neck through '53 precision with Bubinga body & neck and ebony fretboard. That's a spicy meatball
Well whomever you decide to work with you need to get on with them. I assume you've had a look through this list of luthiers http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...post&p=1780
 23.
I think the popularity is largely down to the price point, I don't see *too many* other attractions than that.
Certainly without the competative pricing I'd have not even considered a custom. I guess it depends on the rest of the question: Is it "Why Shuker rather than any of growing list of other custom bass makers?" Or "Why Shuker rather than an off the shelf bass for about the same money?" The answer is different, depending on the question.
 24.
To tell the truth, I like the look of Shuker's a lot, but the price from his website put me off getting a quote, for the single cut, it says from £1795, which is quite a bit.
It's a fair point. That is a lot of money when you can get a perfectly servicable bass for a few hundred pounds. You also have to take into account the resale price of custom made basses is relatively low because of the individual nature of the things. I'm pretty sure there's no single cuts around from mass market manufacturers though so if you want one you'll have to get a hand built one or a Fodera. Not much there for under 2K even used ...
