Dolphin are good on the phone and will have a pretty accurate idea of availability.
 5. Tom was brilliant, He's so down to earth and can still do soul like no other white welshman I thought Friendly Fires were Ok .. I'd rather Jools/the bbc l took a chance now and then rather than a parade of safe and predictable stuff .. and at least they are British... I suspect they are really good in a local pub .. Of course they may have come in as part of a deal to get someone else. At least Otway got a mention
 6.
Also liked this one also reminds me of the one that the bass player in Alabama 3 had. http://www.giggear.co.uk/p/Ashdown-FreeBass/ Shame i can't find it available anywhere yet
Yeah in theory the Ashdown unit should be a lot better but I don't think any one's had a go on one yet. The most important (but certainly not the only) difference between those is that the first one (the "bug") has only one frequency. That's fine if you are the only one with a wireless in the band (or vcenu - think PA systems and DJ's etc) but a switchable multi frequency one gives more flexibility so that if his band mates suddenly see the light and want wirelesses it's easier to use frequencies that don't interfere with each other. In my band we have 6 wireless systems in action ... That can get a tad tricky with single frequency units as shop people can't always tell you what frequency yours is or the ones they are selling. I'd suggest getting a multi frequency one for that single reason. The AKG is a good make (though personally I had problems with a bug style wireless) Give him a picture of the Ashdown and an IOU and wait 'til they are available Or you can say sod 'em and get the single frequency one that you can actually buy now and leave it them to work it out later ....

Hay BIYF you should meet "take the 5th" ... This is her avatar

 11. A great post on a the Seymour Duncan forum on how to join wires together. http://www.seymourduncan.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82443
 12.
That would make sense but i have it in a bag with all my other gear so its quite bulky. Plus i have a large suit bag and my bass to carry on and off the train(s) so its easier to leave i there. If i say no they wont use it, i trust them enough to leave it with them. Mike, no, what you say (what you all say) is how im starting to feel.
Want me to tell the band for you?
 13.
Yes he is in a band heard him talking about getting one to one of his band mates .Nobody else in the band has got one yet but the lead guitarist says he has been in a shop and asked for advise but the assistant couldn't be bothered to talk to him about it. Dont mind paying up to 150 , Hope this helps btw he is getting a new fender presision in a few weeks so would like one to fit both understand some of the bug type ones fit different guitars. Ps i think he is hoping i will get one for him
Great Avatar! So .. have a read through this thread from the top as the orginal poster seems to be looking for the same info ... That should give you a fair amount of info. Then ask any more questions .. OK? Also try the search function on the forum (top right) as this has been covered quite a lot.
 14. Zappa "pop music?" That one hit wonder? (one very good hit though, with great bass) + for Magic Numbers Zappa died in 1993... You've not heard ANY good popular bass playing music since then? That's a very strange place to be.
 15.
very interesting, where did you get the copper shielding? I know you can get shielding paint from Maplin. My jazz is quite noisy.
Well worth it trying ..
 16.
Hope you don't mind me crashing the party but i googled 'wireless bass reviews' and found you lot. I want to buy one of these for my hubbys birthday pressie he plays a fender jazz bass please help me choose which one....i am getting really confused and don't want to end up giving him a sh*t present that doesn't work. You guys hopefully can advise
What's your budget? OK ones run around £50-100, seriously better ones about £350 professional up from there. Does he play in a band full of other wireless systems like mics, other guitarists etc? Does he know you are doing this? Has he expresses a preference for make? If you can tell us that stuff we can help you decide
 17.
Why not take your gear out of the drummers car when you get dropped off at home? That way whoever is on the gig has to take their own rig.
You could certainly take the LMK home without breaking your back .. Take it for a "service" between a few gigs when the other bassists are playing .. Then you can introduce the new rule when you "get it back" from being seviced ...
 18.
Martin Peterson at the gallery once advised me not to cut strings. So I don't.
Maybe that's a Sei headstock then ....
 19.
I was thinking of just saying no but they can use the Ashdown for free.
I'd do that. Say no to the LMK but don't scupper the neat transport arrangement. If it was an Ashdown I'd think you were being a tad sensitive but a hifi rig is different, especially as theres a viable aternative. I wonder if they'd rather drive and use their own gear than use the Ashdown ... And ... It may be your band's fault rather than the bass players. When the band called for a dep bass they may have said "and there's an amp in the car if you prefer to travel with us and use that I'm sure it will be OK" and it's stuck. I'd certainly say yes if that was offered. I doubt very much if the dep bassists asked if there was a rig provided. That's just not normal.

If you're a pub band (like we are) and not a typical functions band NEVER play a wedding unless the Bride and Groom have seen you, and what you do it's just too risky!
Never play the First Dance unless your can really and truely pull it off, it's too important!
I hate 'em but they do pay well but will only do them if point 1 above has been adhered to.
I'd add never agree to play a wedding 'til the potential mothers in law have seen you, They are the real decision makers in this situation.

 25.
I've made one using the bottom of cymbal stand and the top of a guitar stand. The waist of the Stagg is about the same width as the neck support of the guitar stand. The combination of the weight of the cymbal stand and the neck support gripping the bass works really well.
