Is there another Bass Selling Market better than BassChat.?
Dad3353 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
[quote name='yorks5stringer' timestamp='1508348260' post='3391597'] In this digital age, do any of us read the R&G's in any fine detail, especially if from a hand -held device? If for example ( like I did last week) I added a hard case to my Bass Sale Advert to sweeten the deal, is that an infraction? Taken at face value and literally according to (9i) quoted above, it would appear so...? Not being (too) pedantic here but maybe the rules need to be clearer: just sayin I actually revived this thread to highlight a positive experience so I'm not just 'havin a go'! [/quote] Adding a (free...) hard case as a sweetener would be OK. Adding a hard case and upping the price, or offering the case as a separate item, would not. It's especially flagrant when we see ads for a whole shed load of pedals, for instance, with a list that changes as the items are sold and new'uns added. Pays for one ad, gets (in theory...) an infinite number of sales..! Not on, we say; not on. Honest mistakes can be catered for, with a PM to any Mod, but ignorance of the T & C's is usually spotted, and a reminder is the usual 'first response'. It keeps us Mods on our toes, though, so it's not [i]all [/i]bad..! -
Is there another Bass Selling Market better than BassChat.?

[quote name='CameronJ' timestamp='1508345725' post='3391558'] Yeah I had a similar experience myself re: adding items to a sale thread. Had no idea it was against the rules! [/quote] An extract from the Marketplace Rules & Guidelines the full version is linked to in my Signature below... [quote]... 9) The following will result in an advert being removed without prior notice. i) Adding any extra items to any pre-existing advert. ii) Adverts containing multiple items not having a valuation amount that reflects the combined value of those items. iii)Trade adverts that do not show the cash equivalent of the item being traded. ... [/quote] I would presume that either these R & G were not read before posting ads, or were not clear enough to be understood. What can be done to make things more evident, to avoid such 'issues' in the future..? I've not come across any case of infraction that gives rise to a ban, without there being some sort of 'back story', such as repeated misdemeanours, and even then only for serious misconduct. Just sayin', for balance. -
offered festival slot, politely declined, whatcha think?

[quote name='stingrayPete1977' timestamp='1508326167' post='3391354'] Indeed, from one of the food vendors supplying their services for free too? [/quote] Isn't this jealousy, though..? What difference would it make if the band fee was huge, and the vendor giving stuff away..? Looking after your own affairs I can understand, but looking around to see how others have chosen to do things I find very odd. Just me as usual, I suppose. -

[quote name='Phil Starr' timestamp='1508313885' post='3391213'] Curse you, I've just wasted 15mins on this... [/quote] Ditto, but with a different outcome. Empty pedestrian funk with no 'lift' nor 'sparkle'; a drumming nightmare, seemingly never-ending. The Toronto 'live' (is the term 'live' really applicable to this dead beat..?) shows it up for what it isn't; a bad bastard child of Baba O'Riley and James Brown. I shan't be proposing this number to our band; what little reputation I have left I'd like to keep. Not The Who's finest hour, I'd suggest. What's that you say..? Did I like it..? No, I didn't.

[quote name='Grangur' timestamp='1508253449' post='3390880']... Anyone have anything good or bad to say? [/quote] Slightly smaller set-up, but equivalent to Thomann. Bought a few things over the years; no issues. A reliable company; been going for years. Hope this helps. -

Must be worth three tenners, if they're really Stagg EUB's, surely..?

Finger trouble, or too much brandy too early. Happens even to the best of us all the time.

The ad now says: 'This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.' Wrong price, probably.

[quote name='chrisanthony1211' timestamp='1508173987' post='3390269']... Pictures to follow when I find a site that will let me embed photos, photobucket is not what it was!... [/quote] Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Flickr, Imgur or Imgbb is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Others are similar (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas

[quote name='Steff' timestamp='1508158016' post='3390113'] I understand it's the forum rules but maybe leave at least the name of the member when deleting comments? As long as the said rule breaking comment isn't displayed anymore, it's not gonna hurt and I'd be able to actually contact the guy and discuss whatever he's got to offer. [/quote] You're right, of course. I used to copy the entire illicit post and send it back to the perpetrator, so that he/she may compose a PM with the same information. Why don't I do that any more..? There's too many of the blasted things, darn it..! Am I getting slowly more and more grumpy in my advancing years..? Quite likely, but I've less and less time left to do stuff on this planet, so I am beginning to pick and choose. Just for you, and just this once, the offer came from [url="http://basschat.co.uk/user/40446-chris-tommo/"]Chris Tommo ...[/url] If it was serious enough, you'd have received a PM directly by now, though. Good luck with the sale, however, and thanks for posting.

There seems to be a different target audience, I'd say. Some have dancing in mind (a Saturday night out at the pub...), others more of a concert attitude, with a (preferably seated...) audience listening and watching. In my (distant..!) youth, I can't remember ever having assisted at the former, but spent (too..?) many late nights at clubs, concerts and festivals of all sorts, watching and listening to 'live' bands. I can't really imagine folks getting up to dance to Pentangle, for instance, or Johnny Winter. Originals bands are in the latter category for the most part, I'd suggest, so choice of repertoire and pick of songs to do (including some covers; it's often done, and allowed...) have very different criteria. Maybe things have changed with the advent of discos and raves and such, though; I wouldn't know.

... and what do your second keys, second guitar, horn section and percussionist have to say..? Are they up to it..? What..? None of these..? It's basically a drum solo, then..? If your drummer's [i]really [/i]up to playing what that bloke on Youtube is playing, [i]he's[/i] in the wrong band. Those sights are very, very high, and if the full orchestration is not there, personally I can't see the point. It's a funny ol' world, right enough. You're in a high-flying ensemble; make the most of it and fly with 'em, but remember the story of Icarus.

It's the absence of the apostrophe which is more worrying.
