1. On the other hand, don't be put off by it not being music-related. It's a splendid read in its own right, and well worth its modest price, either in electronic form or the more classic printed format. Thoroughly enjoyable. Treat yourself, and/or your partner..!
  2. A while back I caught myself humming a melody, and thought to myself 'That's nice; I like that..." It was a fair while later, in listening through a few Soundcloud efforts that I came across a piece with that melody; I'd written it..! Not much idea as to why it popped back into my head, but pleased as Punch that I'd found the source. I put it down to getting old, though. What's your excuse..?

I've just taken delivery of a mixer/power amp bought from Colin. A real pleasure to deal with, and very flexible about sending to France. 4-day delivery promised by the carrier; 4-day delivery assured. Impeccable packing; things couldn't have gone smoother. I've no qualms in recommending the fellow, who now qualifies, in my book, as a Good Egg. Can't say fairer than that..! Thanks again, Colin.
  5. It's all about the room, if you're not close-micing (yes, I know; the room is still there, but much less so...). The kit in a corner, or in the room centre, or in the hallway... All will contribute to the final effect. Tuning the kit should go without saying, whatever the technique used. It's well worth experimenting with mic placing, moving 'em around a bit, as even a few centimetres can make a very noticeable difference in the captured sound. Some techs will listen through headphones whilst holding the mic in different positions; good ears are required for that, though, which I lack. You'll need to spend (invest..?) a bit of time to get optimum results, time not always available when renting studio space, but well worth it.
  6. . so you'll hear the inspiration I took for my 'Steam Fair' Challenge entry (the 'Interlude' music...)..! Doom Di Doom Di Doom...
  7. Good evening, Iain, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. (... but you knew that anyway, didn't you..? )

  9. I'm glad I play drums.
  10.
Not if you're playing sideways...
So 'sliding to the left' for a righty and 'sliding to the right' for a lefty..? Hmm...What about neck dive..? Does that change things..?
  11.
...the same 'sliding up to a lower note' effect.
Surely that should be 'sliding down'..?

  13.
... Confused yet?...
I was never really confident with sub-D serial connectors, either, what with baud rates and hand-shaking an' all. Just as well I kept my floppy disks, eh..?
  14.
USB3 is old tech. You won't be seeing it on any new Apple products.
It is..? Oh dear; I was just building up to getting USB 2.0 in full use..! S'no fun these days, getting old; it all spins around so fast. Should I be anticipating USB 26.0 already, then..?

  16. Good afternoon, Matt... Hmm... New 'tune', eh..? 'Opus', 'work', 'piece'; there are others that would fit well. I wouldn't have chosen 'tune'. Not that it's not listenable, of course, but one has to have a certain penchant for dissonance and lumpy beat/tempo changes to appreciate it, I'd say. I especially liked the 'Genesis' passage at 5', of rather too short duration for my simple tastes; the coherence had only just started to gel (it takes me a while to 'get into' stuff of the sort...). Whilst fully recognising the hard work that goes into the execution of music of this complexity, there remains a feeling of randomness in the original choice of just what notes to put down on the score in the first place. There's not much to cling on to as the composition sways and leaps from theme to theme; the overall impression is one of giddiness. It's maybe not written with pastoral thoughts in mind, of course; the clue is maybe in the title..? Special mention for the drummer, who seems relaxed and at home from end to end, without the crutch of a music stand, and, apparently, without a 'click' or voice-over to keep him on track. Good Stuff from all, just the same; well done.

  20.
Is there a way to play a harmonic and slide up a couple of tones on a fretted bass? Ta.
Maybe with a 'shy-slide'..? A wide half-ring, used like a bottle-neck. Country pickers use 'em quite a lot with Telecasters and such. Never seen it done on bass, but don't see why it wouldn't work... 21. Ah, that's better..! Listenable, at least; well done. Shades of Placebo, R.E.M., U2... Take that as complimentary. Almost worth a 'LIke'. ... Oh, go on, then...
  22.
This is a logical fallacy.
Perhaps (debatable...), but that doesn't answer the question 'One is allowed to compliment an object on its appearance, but not a person..?'.
