1. I bought a book from Joe, who sent it to France packed as if it was the Crown Jewels..! Well done; it took me quite a while, and a good pair of scissors, to get to read it..! Excellent communication, very fast response and a transaction experience inspiring total confidence. I hereby declare Joe to be, in my books (sic...), a Good Egg. Thanks again.

  3. Good evening, Scotty , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. This is what I see for this topic. Are you using a PC or one of these funny i-whatsit toys..?

  6. Not an expert, but I'd say that there's a 'cache' issue here. Clear all caches in your system and try again..? The WiFi is bringing up something from its memory, rather than renewing the page. Hope this helps (but it may not...)
  7.
sorry I'm not shipping this, they're too fragile. Where in France are you?
His profile says'Paris'. Hmm... Kent..? Paris..? Eurostar..? Tunnel..? Return ticket..? How hard (or expensive...) can it be..? Or meet halfway through the tunnel..?
  8. A well-viewed example of what can happen if one tries too hard. Warning: Not for family viewing.
  9.
... does anyone now ever just plug in and sit through a whole album while doing nowt else?
Most often when listening to Schubert, for instance, but also with many disks which have a particular resonance with me (Nostalgia..? A theme..?) Examples would be 'The Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus' (Spirit...), 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' (Bowie...), 'Surrealistic Pillow' and 'Bless Its Pointed Little Head' (Jefferson Airplane...); very recently I came across 'Bee Gees' 1st' which I'd not listened to for fifty years. Some albums are only complete if listened to in their entirety, and with attention.
  10.
I completely get the building something from scratch idea. I just don't get the kit approach.
For someone wishing to gain a first-time experience, and willing to accept that the result may need 'tweaking' or later upgrading, all the parts are there, and likely to be compatible, at least. Are there better ways..? Yes, even so far as to make one's own body from scratch, with the shape one wishes. There are some very inexpensive kits out there; not everyone can afford a Warmoth as an experiment. It's all good, really; each will find his/her own level of satisfaction.
  11. The Mesa Walkabout has a balanced DI, post EQ and FX loop. You'd normally use that plugged into the console directly with a balanced Xlr cable, as if it were a mic. There is no provision for pre-eq, however, so FOH will receive your EQ and FX loop sound. The Fly Bass rig also has a DI out, equally post FX. There is no provision for having a Pre DI, so FOH will receive the FX. If your sound fellow wants a 'dry' bass signal, it'll require the bass to be plugged into a DI box before the Fly Bass, with the Fly Bass chained from the DI box. Hope this helps.
  12. We only play songs that we all like (not necessarily in equal measure, but all accepted...). As we've quite an age spread, it's not that easy choosing songs, and, once chosen, some fall by the wayside with passing time. Still, that's our whole purpose in playing together. When we perform 'out', our repertoire is most often very well received; I've memories of a few mis-matches, but even in those cases, I don't really know what we could have played that would have gone down better. Disclaimer: we don't play for a fee, and we're usually invited to play, rather than having hunted down the gig ourselves. In fact, I can't remember any gig that we'd 'tried' to get.
  13. Modern youf, eh..?
  14.
http://barefacedbass...nge/compact.htm That link works for me.
Ah, I see the problem now. The 'Conan' link has a trailing full-stop that the browser tries to link to, but fails. The 'itchymusic' link hasn't, which is correct.
  15.
Sadly threads like this one always end up much the same...
Just to say that I humbly disagree with almost every statement in this post. Non-square wave binary is audible..? Dedicated power socket..? Signal attenuation is 'distortion'..? Nah, I'll have none of it.
  16.
The link showing the cab doesn't seem to work for me. ?

Nor me......
The 'Compact' is no longer in the range of products under that name (superseded by the 'Super Compact'). Hope this helps.
  17. I don't usually comment on basses for sale here, although there have been, and still are, many excellent instruments on offer. This one, however, I find particularly stunning, both aesthetically and from a specification point of view. Am I looking for a bass..? No. Do I need another bass..? No. Have I the spare cash for a bass right now..? No. On top of that, I'm a drummer, and an old one at that. Despite all of that, I'd love to have this in my modest stable; she's a beaut, and at a price that's tempting, even for me. Good luck with the sale. ("Sniff." Takes another handkerchief, wipes away a tear, to no avail, as another immediately wells up. Tries to look away; doesn't succeed. "Sniff". )
  18.
I fail to understand why anyone would want to build a bass from a kit. The price of the kit is so low that the components must be the poorest quality available and you won't know whether you like either the feel or the sound of it until you invested the time and effort in building it..
But for some (not all, but some...), that 's the fun part, or a large part of it. I build model aircraft from sticks of balsa. It's just as inexpensive to buy a ready-to-fly 'plane, and less tools to be obtained, but I like building 'em. Same with guitars etc. Our Eldest is currently learning 'hands on' about making his own guitar, from scratch. Will it rival his Nighthawk..? Maybe not, or at least, not at the first attempt, but he'll have the satisfaction of having made it himself, warts'n'all. A kit can bring pleasure, whether or not it rivals a bought instrument, new or used. Not for everyone, but some folks are like that..

Crumbs..! I wasn't expecting that one.
  20.
Ah! So the jokers I described above, "playing with passion" etc are somehow creating art by murdering 2-bit pop tunes...whereas the music and performances of Mahler, Debussy, Stravinsky, Ellington, Gil Evans etc are merely an academic exercise.... Erm, no.
A good case in point. I've seen many a concert where the performance is flat, lifeless, whereas the same work, can be, and often is, brought to life by the magic of great conductors, soloists and players giving of their best. Even more flagrant in the world of classical music, I'd say, is the importance of offering more, much more than the execution of a written piece. The music is not in the dots; it's in the musicians, and never more so than in the performance of the likes of those cited.
  21.
... Still, could have been worse...it could have been a really good band made up of guys 10 years older reading some charts....
I think I detect just the slightest tint of sarcasm here. If one is really only interested in the auditive aspect of music, one would enjoy the passage of a series of CD's as entertainment (and I don't doubt that some do...). A 'rubbish' band is a rubbish band, whatever their stage presence, but, for my part, and having all the same some minimum standard, I prefer raw enthusiasm over sterility every time. I'm not considering visuals, either; purely the audio given off. I don't dance, and often watch a band, listening to their efforts. If they're simply 'going through the motions', at whatever technical level, I'm not moved. I've seen many a group with little to offer in the way of technical skills (heck, I've played in many, too,.!), but have always preferred those to clinicians, with the proviso that the audience are happy with them. To each his/her own, of course, and maybe it's just me, but engagement wins over mere prowess for me.
  22.
Jealousy?...
Why so..? Whilst agreeing that those talent and skills are, indeed, of a high standard, that's not always what is wanted in an evening's entertainment. For a concert, maybe (and even then...), but for enjoying a wedding 'do', either on the dance floor or as a spectator, it's not systematically the 'note perfect' rendition that fits the bill, at least not for many; maybe even more so for the non-musicians having a great time. Jealous..? Of what..?
  23.
Sorry, I'm still a newbie here =) pmd, cheers
I'd recommend reading through the rules just the same.
