  1. I'll have trouble explaining, then, as it takes in the concept of 'blowing one's own trumpet', boasting, self-promotion, modesty, and more, that one either captures or not. I was involved with a couple of bands during the '90s (touring, doing their lights, mostly, but equally organising festivals, or assisting in the tech side, at the console or backstage...), and assisted at many concerts and festivals, all over France. The sales of promo merch was an important part of the gig, but wearing it oneself was, for just about all the bands I crossed paths with, a 'no-no'. Bands such as Kiemsa, Les Amis De Ta Femme, Marcel Et Son Orchestre, La Ruda, Outrage... A scenic presence, certainly, but not to the point of touting oneself (would be seen as ridiculous...). Better to 'promote' one's favourite band, possibly even another band on the same bill..! Other points of view are valid, of course; this is just how I've always seen things done in the circles I went around in at the time.
  2. There are those that consider that to be in poor taste.
  3. Good afternoon, BB , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. Ah..! I didn't know that, so thanks. So much the better, then.
  5. As above ^^, there are no 'hard and fast' rules (other than the general T&C's on behaviour, of course...), but comments on technical 'boo-boos', or knowledgeable advice on improving a post or topic are usually best made by PM, directly to the OP, unless there's some kind of complaint involved, in which case a 'Report' to the Mods and Admins may be more appropriate. Honest, open criticism is a Good Thing, but it's rare that having it posted before the wide world is more beneficial than a discreet 'word to the wise'. Hope this helps; your valid comments have, naturally, been passed on to those concerned for action.
  6. A good range of services there, but would be difficult to generate enough turnover to pay the exorbitant commercial rates that shop premises attract; in a High Street, at least. Could work, maybe, if working from home, as long as the local bye-laws on that weren't infringed, I suppose. Sharing premises with another occupation could be an option, too (Hair-dressing salon..? Men's wear..? Haberdashery..? McDona... Nah, not Mcdo..!).
  7. 'Old school' drummers (I'm one...) can use brushes (very, very old school, which give a totally satisfactory 'thwack' when handled properly...), and/or 'hot-rods', an excellent compromise between the brush technique (admittedly a bit different to sticks...) and ornery sticks. They, too, can make quite a din, but one has to really work hard for that; normally they're very positive as a feeling, but produce less volume. Of course, real drummers can play well, even hard rock, without excess volume, but that's another can of worms, I suspect.
  8. Oi..! More than half-deaf, but not completely deaf, y'know..! Any louder and you might even wake me up..!
  9. No, I wuz only joshin'. Bellow all you want; I'm more than half-deaf anyway.
  10. WHO'S SHOUTING..! We'll have none of that here, thank you very much, Mods or no Mods..! Polite 'banter', 'to-ing and fro-ing, an exchange of opinions... That's acceptable, and even healthy, in moderate doses, but SHOUTING..? That won't last long, believe you me..! ... ...
  11. Changes nothing, just a bit bulkier from all the popcorn.
  12. (... although the prancing about is a bit 'over the top'...).
  13. No indeed; Blu Tack is not transparent (it's blue..!) ...
  14. Probably hard to believe, I know, but I suspect that Bilbo is, in fact human..! He probably (not 'certainly', but 'probably'...) has feelings and emotions, just as outlandish, illogical and contradictory as most of us (well, me, at least...). I, for instance, don't approve of folks burning up fossil fuels in guzzling vehicles. I'll be going to the shops, however, in a few minutes in my car. Hypocrite..? Yup..!
  15. Have you tried 'phoning or mailing K&K for an other set of stick-on tape for the pads..? They must have surely come across the case before. What glue did you use..? I hope you didn't glue directly to the pick-up pad itself; did you put the glue on the old (no longer sticky...) pad tape..? Here's what they say about using the tape... Using Double-sided Adhesive Tape ...
  16. Fully loaded or empty..?
  17. Good evening, JP, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  18. After using my Hofner President guitar as bass, I finally invested the princely sum of £20 for a Vox Clubman ... Supposedly new, from a sort of pawn shop in Addlestone, Surrey. It had an odd socket, rather like a TV aerial socket, on the pick-guard, not the side as in the photo, which I had to change. It got little use, and was taken in part exchange for a Vox Continental organ that my good lady at the time was to learn to play. That, too, had a short life with us, being traded for a Hohner Pianet M. It mattered little to me at the time, as I was already playing drums by then. Do I regret that bass..? Not one bit. The Hofner President, yes. I was a fool to let that go (I've been looking since for another: Hofner President, two pick-up, single Florentine cut, violin burst...).
  19. Good evening, John, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. You may like to post your skills in the 'Tutors Available' section ..., giving your location. That's where folks go when wanting tuition near them. Hope this helps.
  20. Interesting; worth watching.
  21. Doesn't that ruin the bow's varnish..?
