1. Put me in line as well please, if there are enough sets.
2.
Iv just got a set of Ernie Ball strap locks for my SB2 and they are fantastic!! Totally solid with 360 degree rotation. They look great too with the EB logo on them.Gold, black or silver.
+1 on that - I really don't think very many people have tried these as Schaller/Dunlops are such a convention. I splashed out on the EB ones some time ago and I would never go back to Schallers - all my basses get the EB ones which I have never ever had to re-tighten once.
3.
More and better pictures added, see post #5. Bump!
You could have left my garden in the background - its not that untidy is it?
4. They are certainly packed with features and push out plenty of volume. Take plenty of time to try out various EQ/Spectracomp/Tubetone combinations before you make a real judgement as they may not be to your taste out of the box set flat. Let us know how you get on...
5. Trubass gone - thanks all.
6. Chromes gone - thanks Captain Black
7. Recently bought some Chromes here on BC but I prefer the TI's after all so am selling the Chromes D'Addario Chromes Flatwounds (45-100 gauge) 34" scale. Cut for a P bass - hardly used (in other words not actually broken in yet). £20 posted I've also have a set of Rotosound Trubass nylons (65-115 gauge) 34" scale sat in the pack for about 3 years. Also cut for a P. £15 posted
8. Again? my poor baby - she's been all over the forum. Lovely bass, quite tempted to get it back
9.
Thanks Jase. If no interest this weekend I will definitely put it on eBay (TBH could probably extract a higher price from someone on the Continent due to sterling being weak v Euro)
Definitely agree with that - I don't think you need to lose out on this one, just need to find the right buyer.
10.
Hey Legion! I KNOW you are not selling either of your beautiful basses But maybe someone somewhere has a Pino and needs a funkier Jazz sound instead. New price on a Pino £2400, ouch!
It's a lovely looking Jazz - I'm sure someone will want it, although I think the options on BC get exhausted pretty quick so if it doesn't get any bites here I'd get it on ebay asap.
11. Stop staring at me - you're making me nervous
12. Hmm, very nice Andy - any chance you know the weight please?
13. A friend of the singer took this at a gig the other night and I thought it looked so nice I'm tempted to suggest we use it as a promo type shot...sort of missing the drummer though, but thats actually good as we had someone stand in for our usual drummer that night anyway! 14. Well, I guess one P, one J, one Stingray and one fretless can be justified - but multiples of each? Slim down the collection Gareth, it's all just a distraction
15.
Thanks
Ahh, now relaxing after a long day of jobs that had to be done... Well, having read the thread again I'm not really sure what you are asking Personally I love my TF, the ebony board is perfect allowing me to use rounds without any worries (plus I like the sound). The fit and finish is good, but I think like a lot of Fenders these days that can vary anyway but I seem to have a good one. I actually like the selector switch for its simplicity, my favourite by far is the P/J setting, otherwise its usually P, rarely just the J. A couple of times now I've come close to selling it but changed my mind. I'm very glad about that, as I'm sure I would be missing it already. I think the only factor to be really sure of is - do you want a fretless? will you gig it and use it? if it becomes a bedroom only toy you might well be selling it on in a month or 2 as its not getting used. I've tried to use mine a lot more live lately which has presented the odd problem (like being in the dark and not able to see anything!) Basically if you like P's, like Fenders, and want a fretless - get a TF J
16. I seem to have a busy day today - I'll chime in later
17.
You know where I am Jase. It would be interesting to A-B the '71 with the Tony Franklin, kinda Pepsi Challenge for vintage versus modern? With the exception of the specific PUPs, they're pretty similar spec'd basses after all?
I think if I'd known the fretless was a '71 (the year I was born) I would have shown a lot more interest, especially as it already has the ebony board and jazz pup. I'd actually quite like to compare my Pino to your '64 and my Franklin to your '71 - you have the real deals, mine are the copies
18. Collection is looking nice now Chris - and 3 is a spot on amount of basses IMO. Was down in Kent recently at the in-laws and wanted to arrange a meet but it turned out to be a flying visit... Maybe next time J
19.
I only use Chromes now. Tried GHS, La Bella, Fender, Roto and TI's I love (and so does my G'tard) how Chromes sound when they have been on a few weeks. They are way to brite when new. The others were OK (except La Bella which I personally did not like at all!) but just didnt move me. You need to try some and see what you think. Roto Nylons are OK but very soft and way large gauge, sound very thuddy. GHS nylons are way better in tone and feel,. IMHO of course.
Interesting comment about the Chromes. Personally I started my flats journey on Roto's which I liked and now really don't like I've also tried the black nylon Trubass strings, Labella's and TI's. I've generally stuck with TI's as I really like the sound even though the tension is so low it doesnt really mix with my heavy handed technique. I recently bought a set of Chromes on BC which I tried on my Pino - very strange, they sounded more like rounds than flats. Nice and smooth feel, and a good level of tension but I wasn't sure I liked the sound. Any idea's about breaking them in nice and quick? I'd like to know how much they mellow out really J
20.
Cheers. Thanks for the input.
Just to explain my thinking a little more concisely (yes, I should be working!) - The TC cabs are excellent, but I think in order to get the real benefits which I see as:- A nice high tweeter giving you the ability to hear yourself well and the full 450 watts out of the head - you need 2 of the cabs (ignoring the RS112 as I've not tried one yet). Having one is nice but then you cant do the vertical stack and you are only getting 8 ohms. Carrying 2 RS210/212 cabs is just not practical for me and seems a bit overkill for most of the gigs I do. The GS112's can be stacked vertically giving me that "improved monitoring" effect (although the tweeter sounds much better in the TC cabs), they are significantly more rugged and taking them both to gigs is achievable in my car (bmw 3 series, tiniest boot in the world) and gives me the full 450 watts and a lovely tone. I have to add that the RH450 is so good that I don't feel theres a significant volume boost from using 4 ohms instead of 8 ohms, but the tone obtained from both GS cabs is much improved. I guess the RS112 could help make the TC cab configurations more versatile, but its still not lifting anything high enough to reach ear height so its really just pumping up the watts and adding a 12" if you've got 10's
21.
Anybody paired the RH450 with a pair of DB112s?
I'm afraid my DB112's went to Greeneking before I got the RH450 - but I have been using it with my 2 GS112's and I love it, so much so that I wont be getting TC cabs. I was all set on the idea and spent some time trying them out (again) at the Bass Merchant with the intention of getting either a RS210/212 combo or RS210/210 and thought I was settled. Then I got home and played through my 2 GS112's and decided I still like them so much that I'll stick with 'em. Don't get me wrong the TC cabs are very nice, but a combination of size/practicality makes the GS ones work better for me. J
22. Bought some Chromes from Nick - slight mistake in the deal that was entirely sorted by Nick and very promptly. Respect due J
23. If its still playable, comfortable and reliable...does it matter?
24. SOLD - via ebay as usual
25. I'll take the Chromes please - will sort payment when I get home tonight if thats OK J
