1. Well...? Truckstop
2. Hmmm, thinking back I've actually had a few! Squier P - '02-'07 Stagg PJ - '03-'05 Washburn XB600 - '05-'11 Yamaha RBXJM1 - '07 - '11 Wishbass Peanut (Fretless 6) - '07-'09 All these next ones have passed through my hands between December 2010 and now! MIM Fender Jazz 5 Fender P Fretless with an '83 neck but an '05 Squier(?) body MIJ Fender 'Sting' Spector NS2-b So quite varied I suppose! I think I'm settled on my Ibanez Blazer though. I doubt I'd ever need anything else. Of course, I'll buy and sell more basses in the meantime because it's fun, but I use the Blazer every day. Truckstop
3. Yeah nice one mate! Hope it goes well. Still can't believe anyone as innovative and as stylistically recognised as Kate Bush is not in the Hall of Fame. Sickening! Truckstop
4. I would just resolder everything and get those switches and knobs cleaned. It's nearly 30 years old, there's bound to be some gunk in there that needs clearing out! I wouldnt think there's any need to replace the pups or switches or pots unless you find that they are actually broken. Truckstop
5. Well I suppose if I wreck it I could always send it off to you to sort out, eh? Truckstop
6. God, how long's a piece of string? Personally, I'd go for a 5 string P with a P-Retro. If I were you, I'd go out and try as many as possible. Seems you're restricting yourself with a 35" scale length, when really the reach depends on how long the top horn is and where the strap buttons are. If you're after a 35" because of the tone, you'd be amazed at how different luthiers are creating spectacular 5ers with great B's on even 32" scale! I'd put an ad out asking for BCers in your area if you could come round and try their basses. Then you might get a better idea of what you'd like! Or rather, what you don't like. Personally, I'd try and grab a Roscoe with that sort of budget. Not traditional looking, but certainly not too over the top. Great tone, tend to be fairly lightweight and they are just so comfy! I prefer the looks of the SKB's, but the Century stds are pretty special too! Maybe email Mark @ Bassdirect and ask if you can go to Leamington and try some shizzle out? He's a very helpful guy and will be able to point you in the right direction. Truckstop
7. Looked like a great day! But yeah, looking at all those basses makes my head go all wonky! All extremely lovely though, and in the corner of one of those photos is a lovely looking blueburst Jaydee. Gorgeous! Truckstop
8.
Transit van all the way, back bone of Britain so they say. Never had any problem that couldn't be fixed or bodged on the quick to get me where I'm going.
So no stories? Truckstop
9. Piss bucket fell over once or twice. That was grim cos people used to throw up in it aswell. There might have been some certain sanitary and contrceptive things in there aswell. At the time, we had a driver who would literally refuse to stop until we got to the venue. This meant, seeing as we were a metal band and therefore unkind to our bodies, we'd drink lots of beer and get messed up in the van and deal with the consequences in the van aswell. Heady days...gross days. Once, the singer was leaning out of the window shouting abuse at some pedestrians and the door flew open. Hilarious but he suffered a couple of broken ribs because he was balancing on his ribcage as the door was swinging about. Serves him right, he was always a bit of a helmet. Truckstop
10. Not quite sure I have the time, patience, skill, materials, tools or knowledge to do anything like that! I think I'll just stick with my hardware changes for now Truckstop
11. Ooh, yeah well fit! Hmm, I'll get my thinking cap on for this one. Truckstop
12. Boom! Gold hardware and Di Marzio's should sexify this one right out. Maybe a tort p'guard aswell but I'm not sure how that'd look with cream pup covers and gold hardware. Any thoughts? Truckstop
13. PM'd! I feel a project coming on! Truckstop
14. Although I personally down like Ashdown (havent tried the MiBass yet though so willing to be proved a fool!) the Mag series combos seem to be well liked by forum users. They often turn up here for not much money and they're good enough to rehearse and gig with. If it's not loud enough to gig with, then the bass should be going via PA anyway! In my experience, it's easier to have a single rig/setup for home, rehearsal and gig use. This way you get better acquainted with your gear and it means you dont have to pay for, effectively, the same thing 3 times. Truckstop
15. That is a bargain. Looked to be in great condition and well looked after! I was tempted to go after it, but I already have one exactly the same! I want a red one! Truckstop
16. I'm going to have a session tomorrow and listen to all of these tunes! Truckstop
17. Saw Oldgit's posts and it made me a little sad. Miss his humour! Alex
18. All I would say is, don't mod the 'wick. You'll regret it and it'll be more trouble than it's worth. You'll lose everything that you love about it! Truckstop
19. Lionel Richie - All Night Long Everyone knows it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN2_ydMMeG8&ob=av2n Truckstop
20. My Blazer cost me £160!! Truckstop
21. I'd vouch for an Ampeg PF-500. They simply sound incredible. Plenty of beefy bass and the gain control can add a nice touch of valvey grit which I find very pleasant indeed. If I need a little more, I just play harder or add some overdrive using my multi-fx. It's also very useful to use in the studio. DI with post or pre EQ, effects loop and a port for external sources (ipod or laptop for samples or for practising) as well as a headphone socket. And all for just over £300 new; SVT tone in a package that fits into a laptop bag! Get yourself a couple of small cabs and you're proper rockin. I own one SVT-210HE (for 350w) but have borrowed another one (for the full 500w) and it sounds simply immense! FYI, vertical stacking does next to nothing for FOH sound. You'll hear yourself better for sure because the speakers will be nearer ear height, but it'll sound exactly the same to the audience. In my opinion obviously! Aguilar DB range and Purple Chilli cabs also have lovely vintage styling and soundz. Truckstop
22. Bedtime bump!! Truckstop
23. I hate being poor Truckstop
24. Need to raise some cash, fast! You fancy a pink BC Rich Eagle do you? Truckstop
