Whats the best Jazz Bass I can buy for under £300
Truckstop replied to matybigfro's topic in Bass Guitars
Squier CV Jazz. About £250 new? Around £175 second hand a worth every penny! Truckstop -
Oh my god! I've done some recording for a guy who's started a band of 4 hammod organs with leslies. So heavy!!! This is the future of metal. Truckstop

Also, the Gallien Kreuger 700RB-II 1x15 combo that's for sale on here for £400 is a massive steal and will be good for you for many years to come! Truckstop

Never Used Gallien-krueger 700RB II 115 <<SOLD>>
Truckstop replied to juneandneville's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
How is this not gone yet?! I keep to saying to anyone that'll listen that these RB combos are simply incredible! Great GK tone, fantastic build quality, quite compact for a 115 combo and not that heavy either. They can be tilted back, have a post EQ DI, tuner out and an effects loop. To buy a 700RB head and the matching RBH cab would cost nearly £900, and you can get all this for £400? Amazing I say! If I wasn't such an Ampeg fanboi (and poor) I'd have nabbed this by now. Good luck with the sale mate! Truckstop -
You could get a second hand Ampeg PF-500 for £250 or so which leaves you with £250 for a decent cab. There's also a Hartke LH500 on sale on this forum for £200 which is a total bargain. That leaves you plenty of cash for a good 4x10 cab (such as Ashdown, Hartke, Trace Elliot) or if size matters, an excellent quality 2x10 (like Ampeg, SWR, TC Electronic etc). The deals are out there!! My amp and cab cost me £350 all told. And it's capable of serious tone and volume! Truckstop

Ah yes, it's a Line6 pod floor controller. I've not updated my sig for a while... I use it for trem, delay, drive, reverb, and chorus. Has volume and a wah built in too. Not keen on the wah particularly, but it does the job for funky sweeps. Very flexible, very cool! I was worried I'd need to find a pedal board big enough for the floor controller, but then just decided to use the controller itself. Still loving the Pitchbox btw. Should be compulsory ownership! Hello all, I know, I know, but I got my reasons! A recent splurge on effects and an upcoming holiday have required the sale of this wonderful modern classic bass. I bought it off ebay for £175 only a few months ago in a shoddy condition. There's a refin diary here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/177878-yay-another-ibanez-blazer-refurb-thread/page__p__1707813__hl__blazer__fromsearch__1#entry1707813 It retains the full Blazer sound. Lovely thumpy lows with a treble sparkle that's reminiscent of a traditional P. Not particularly lightweight, but not heavy either. I use it for 3 hour shows no problems; guesstimate at around 9-10lbs. Neck's got a few dinks along it's length, but i've not found them to be particularly noticeable. There's a few dents everywhere actually, but it's a 31 year old bass innit. This bass should really be bought by someone that has a bit of practical knowledge about fixing these things up. There's a few issues that I've noticed since playing it hence the low price. Mainly, the bridge is ever so slightly mis-aligned. It needs shifting south a couple of mil. Try as I might, I simply cannot get the action as low as I'd like it, and I dont like it particularly low (about 5mm at the 12th). I'm sure it's fixable, but i've never been brave enough to try the truss rods on old basses, so someone with a little experience should be able to sort this out no problem. I should also point out that this has not been professionally refinished. There are still a few sanding marks and the finish is not mirror smooth so be prepared for a refin job on this if you're so inclined, but I think it's definitely worth a punt at £150! It'll come with a period correct (read battered old) hardcase. Here's some pics: I have plenty more pictures if you'd like, just PM me with your email address and I'll get a few sent to you. This is collection only, I'm based in St. Albans (AL2 1AZ). I could be persuaded to deliver for a sensible amount of money and a cup of tea though. Not looking for trades as this is a fundraiser, but I do really want a good quality double gig bag that I'd be willing to swap with. Price is strictly non-negotiable. Payment in cash, bank transfer or Barclays Pingit. Cheers! Alex

@Russ Yeah the Rocktron Cyborg Reverb really doesnt like sharing power supplies and it's really sensitive to active basses. Great sound though and I love that you can make it reverberate literally forever! Great pedal. Wish I'd not sold mine now Anyway back on topic, does anyone know of any expression pedals with a right-angled jack? I'm really happy with my rig except that I need to put my SYB-5 at an angle because the M-Audio Expression pedal comes with a straight jack. Annoying! Truckstop

Listen to early Anathema. Lots of chordal work going on there and lots of minor harmonies too. Doom is all about the groove; by all means create busy basslines, but make sure not to lose sight of the groove. Make sure you got a lovely fuzzy tone too! Truckstop

Just bought said Line 6 Floorboard and a Pod off Perry and the whole transaction was brilliant! Great comms, great honesty and a great sense of humour. Please trade in confidence with this guy! Alex

I bloody f***ing love Anathema I do. Saw them a while back with My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. Amazing gig! I'm not sure whether I prefer the proper old doom Anathema or the newer, more prog style. Both great though; Barriers is an awesome song. Truckstop

Bloody f***ing love Opeth I do. Saw them in Exeter during the Reveries tour and also at download the year before. Still Life must surely be an extreme metal classic album. White Cluster is a masterpiece. Akerfeldts lyrics and voice really set Opeth apart from other death/doom/black/folk metal bands. I actually think Blackwater Park's my favourite. Leper Affinity and The Drapery Falls are awesome songs! Truckstop

Being in a band is difficult. It needs compromise from everyone and also everyone needs to be aware of their limitations. Sounds to me like you're struggling with a song. Some songs come together quickly, some take weeks or months of work. My advice would be to just finish the song, deal with it and move on. Write more songs!!! Truckstop

Don't wanna be a dick or anything, but that top would ruin that bass for me. The olive is beautiful. I'd much rather buy it with just the olive and a clear pickguard. Maybe use the bubinga top for another bass that isn't quite so busy? Of course I'm sure it'll look lovely whatever you decided to do, but IMO the bubinga's a little too much! Truckstop

Ha ha everything on the stage looked very unstable! Perspex grand piano was wobbling all over the place. Truckstop -
I guess this thread just goes to show that to fully appreciate good lyrics, one needs to hear them in the context of the song from which they came. Most of my favourite lyrics are almost gibberish on their own, but in the song they take on so much meaning. I nominate this cheery little ditty from Elbow. The song's about the singers grandad dying: "Disjointed tales that flit between short trousers and a full dress uniform; And he talks of people 10 years gone like I've known them all my life." So much power when you hear them in the context of the song ('Scattered Black n Whites' if you're interested). Also, disappointed no-one's put any Chas n Dave up Truckstop

I love the chorus on my Boss ME-20b. Not sure if it's based on the CE's? Truckstop
