Hello all, I recently bought this off Daz Original For Sale ad here to use as a base for many many modifications (new paintjob, electrics, bridge etc). As with practically everything I do, the second I got it I decided I couldnt be bothered and have left it as is! I thought it'd be a better idea to spend money making my No.1 bass look nicer after a botched home paintjob. It's a good bass, very loud, very solid and it's in pretty good nick too. Everything works, the electronics all work, there's no crackles or hums etc. There's a few scuffs around the edges and a couple of knocks on the neck too. I would say the neck has a standard Jazz profile. Basically, it's prime for modding! This bass will not come with a case or a strap. I'm selling it for what I paid for it which I think is a good deal. I'd rather sell it here than on Ebay, it's simply not worth that much to bother with the fees and hassle. I'll deliver it personally within Herts/north london/west London. If you're a little further, I'll get it sent to you innit. I'm located a minute or two off J22 of the M25 in London Colney (AL2 1QU) if you fancy collecting. I also don't mind driving to Barnet, Radlett or St. Albans to drop if off at a train station for you. I will also accept trades for good leads, effects (cash your way) and I'm in need of a strap aswell, so try me! Cheers Alex
I have to disagree, you don't have to stick to the same artist, you just have to make sure it works.. Either simluar tempo or feel or groove, and same or complementing key.. One of my bands does Valerie (Mark Ronson Version)/Walking on Sunshine/Can't hurry love/Footloose because they have the same vibe swing style vibe, it works and we play about 3/4 of each song. We play that in the second set and people never stop dancing. It's always beena winner, then we keep it up till the end of the show bar one slowish song for the audience to catch their breath
Oh, I agree with that totally! If the aim of your band is to keep people on the floor, then yeah, you need to/should shoehorn similar songs together to keep the vibe going and a medley is the way to do that because sometimes disco songs kind of wind down at the end (Walking on Sunshine being a prime example). But it's different if you're not a disco/party band and you want to play 3 or 4 songs by the same artist down the pub without people getting fed up. Truckstop

Medleys are good if you want to play lots of songs by the same artist. Really, IMO, you shouldnt play more than 2 songs by the same artist unless you're a tribute group so a way to get around that is to pick 4 or 5 songs you want to play and mash them together. My pub band does this with The Who (it's handy for skipping the synth parts aswell!), Elton John and Free. I don't think it'd work if half of your set was medleys. It'd get very boring! It's clever the first couple of times, but after? A bit naff! Truckstop

But sometimes for extra tricky passages, I'd shift it around a bit so the neck was a little higher. All because I didnt want to have to wear my bass ridiculously high for like 2 minutes in an entire gig/rehearsal! Truckstop

There we go, that's how I like it! Because I've moved to 5/4 strings, I wear them slightly lower now. Truckstop

My Brunswick Electro/Acoustic bass on the bay of evil
Truckstop replied to Mzungu71's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Looks like someone's getting an absolute steal! I'd bid for it myself if I needed an acoustic right now. Truckstop -
Leave the pickguard well alone! Looks gorgeous without it. Truckstop

Yamaha TRB's are great basses and fall in your price range with a little change left over. Lovely vintage vibes! Truckstop

I'd be more worried about the amplification! Wooly much? Truckstop

I play it with my teeth or behind my head. So... short? Truckstop

Absolutely! Right now I'm well into a Guitar-hero phase. Rory Gallagher, Pat Methany, SRV, Fleetwood Mac, Hendrix etc and developing a style of bass playing that supports guitar solo'ing. In the past, I've been in a disgusting Death metal/math/dub band and at the moment i'm playing in a atmosphericore band (see below). I'm also starting a covers band playing the aforementioned artists! You gotta roll with the changes, otherwise you'll end up playing the same sh*t and you'll become a decent musician! For example, I still lvoe listening to death, but I just don't want to play it anymore. As a musician, I want to evolve. Truckstop

I would like to see real DB tone from an electric bass. In my brain, I'm imaging a DB neck attached to a P bass sort of thing, with a DB bridge and tailpiece. So really, a DB that can be worn over your shoulder, but is essentially the same size as an electric. Also, double neck basses, but instead of the traditional parallel necks model, I'm thinking one neck underneath the other. So, from the front it looks like a standard bass, but it's got one neck mounted behind the other. This way, you can have a double necked guitar without needing giant cases and without looking like a tool! (copyrighted) Truckstop
Just in case anyone is being put off by the McGregor name (ooh, if it doesn't say Mackie I'm not touching it), I needed some PA tops in a hurry a few years ago and bought off eBay the first pair of 12" jobbies that came up at a sensible price. I'd never heard of McGregor and figured I'd use these for a couple of gigs while I sorted out something decent. I've done maybe 30 gigs with this rig so far and have yet to think of a reason to buy better-known (i.e. more expensive) units. They're excellent quality and very practical design. I'd have this one in a flash were it not for the fact that last year I bought the exact equivalent unit from Studiomaster. That plus the fact that I can't be arsed to drive out to Borehamwood. Come into London much, Oggy? Speaking of which, these powered foldback units are ideal for use in a home recording or rehearsal studio. Far more flexible than a standard bass rig and of course they're each one a self-contained (tiny) PA.
Jack, if you want to buy it, I can pick it up for you and drop it off when I come to yours to pick up the Gherson next week? Borehamwood's only a 20 minute drive away from me. PM me if you fancy it! Alex

Ok, that's freaky. Go look at the Amy Winehouse thread, second post.

Yeah I tried a Crush 35 and 50 not long ago when I was going through a 'I-need-a-combo-rather-than-seperates' stage and I thought they were great for the money. They look great (especially the black ones) and they're intuitive to use. I wouldnt say the EQ is that impressive and I can't really comment on the volume as I tried the smaller models, but they seemed well made, not too heavy and they're nice and square. And again, good value. If you want one, I'd definitely say try it out first. If you don't like the Orange Crush sound... you just won't like it full stop. Truckstop

Oh come on! He was clearly just having some fun riffing with the drummer! Don't we all get a bit silly sometimes and just muck about? I don't think Hadrien would want that to be listened to as a finished product anyway, more it should be watched as a celebration of what improvised music is about! Fun and chops! Truckstop

Amazing! Smiles all around, great chops and a nice groove! Truckstop

I use my penis on slow songs. Truckstop

I'd get a new pre-amp or change the wiring so that you've got a master volume. If you're used to using your fingers to change the volume, it's a real bastard adapting to using a volume pedal. Volume knobs can also be a bit more precise as I find the sweep on many volume pedals can be quite severe and not as intuitive as you'd think. I use a volume pedal in conjuction with my chorii pedals for swells, but I use the J- East to adjust volume for various sections. Truckstop

Hmmm, I was looking at the E602, but as I use some effects I was worried that it wouldnt replicate them so well. Especially seeing as the signal's already being passed through a set of speakers already; I was thinking that an E606 would pick up the nuances of my effects better. Or is that silly? Cheers Alex

I was thinking, we should totally start a Basschat moustache club! Truckstop
