Nothing wrong with P basses. Perhaps a little expensive for a first bass? Not everyone gets on with the P-bass neck (I don't). You should be able to pick up something very playable for £250-ish, especially if you try the For Sale forum here. Ibanez SR300, Squier P or J basses, Peavey Milestone III would all be decent starters, especially if you buy second-hand from someone who knows their stuff. The Westfields are decent for the money. I hear good things about the new Revelations.

It's a bit pointless, TBH. Nobody will be able to see the pattern from beyond about 20 yards, so why bother?

You can always put a DFA switch on it if you remove the 4-knob.

I have a Cimar P-bass, which I have specifically because it looks trad as a trad thing - currently awaiting a neck replacement, because the trussrod is stuck. I also have a matched pair of Peavey Foundations, one fretted one fretless. I'd never have bought them if they weren't a pair. I think I might sell them.

Still nothing. I think I should be playing some other instrument.

If Pepsi want me to advertise them, they can pay me to do it...

That's a really good price, IMO. (Assuming it's in decent nick, etc.)

I don't like it, too fiddly; but I guess it's better than "relicing"... apart from anything else it does seem to show some actual skill and ambition.

Would the owner be prepared to remove the electrics cover?

New to me, though it does stir an old memory I can't pin down. The bridge/tuner arrangement is very Kramer The Duke(/Hondo Alien). (The serial number doesn't follow the Kramer patterns I know of, but I'm not well-informed.) Where is it, and how much is the asking price?
