1. Sure this is a great bass. This is the combo I'd get if I were getting one. If someone were to buy my P I may well be interested. Free bump.
2. You could try this one with a 40mm nut: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=127715
3. Check out this Youtube clip of a recent Jools Holland episode, it is hilarious. Fantastic to see McCoy Tyner on there, check out Jools's face when the musicians run completely over their allotted time.
4.
hello there Just a question is the bass all original. And is the fender name on the headstock one that you've put on yourself ? is it a USA made one as well ? many thanks jake
Bass is all original (that includes the headstock decal). "CIJ" means "Crafted In Japan" so, no, it is not a USA made bass. Have a search around on the forum and you'll find a lot of info about these models.
5.
There's something quite cool about a guy on a bass forum selling a keyboard to buy a new flute
Yes, bit odd, I know. Bass was the first instrument I took up, but flute is actually my first (i.e. main) instrument. Piano is something I use to compose but I am far from being called a pianist so it's the thing I have to sacrifice in order to get a new flute.
Location?
Sorry about the late reply on this - I forgot to track the topic so only read the replies today. I'm in Sheffield.
6. Sorry for the shameless plug.
7. Like many people, I got into jazz via Kind of Blue; a music teacher gave me a tape with that one one side and Jaco's self-titled album one the other. It was Cannonball and Trane that got me started. The same teacher gave me a few compilations with Mingus (Goodbye Pork Pie Hat), Silver (Song For My Father) and loads of other great stuff and this was enough to set me on my journey.
Eventually I bought a Charles Mingus compilation which featured Eric Dolphy and that was pretty much it - got loads of Mingus/Dolphy recordings over the next few years. Eric Dolphy is probably my favourite musician.
Nice to see another Dolphy fan. Eric is also one of my favourite musicians, though it took me several years before I really got into him. I bought out to Out To Lunch not long after getting into jazz because I was exploring flute players. I really wasn't into it but kept going back to it over the course of about six years before I finally got it. Incidentally, if you're a fan of Eric's bass clarinet playing you owe it to yourself to check out Louis Sclavis (if you haven't already).
8. So so tempted. I love my Sterling but would really love to have this in order to have the bridge with mutes. If I knew I could sell mine on straight away and not lose money I'd do it.
9. Good job this isn't a UV70 or HPJ otherwise I'd have probably given in to temptation by now. Have a free bump.
10. Hi all, I am thinking I might need to sell my Rhodes. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM . More pics here. I reckon £850 is fair. Collection only from Sheffield. 11. from the serial number daters I've found on the web it puts it at between 2004 and 2006.
12. Rest of pictures.
13. Hi all, I'd been gassing for a Precision for ages and picked this one up in December. It's lovely but I think I'm going to have to face the fact that I can't get on with nut widths larger than 38mm. (This was why I had to abandon the idea of a Stingray to get a Sterling (at least until I can get my mitts on a SLO Special).) I love the P sound and am going to have to get a P with a Jazz width neck. As regards condition, it is generally excellent with very minimal fret wear. There are however a few little dings and scratches, a nick in the fretboard and a bit of buckle rash on the neck plate (all from the previous owner) which I have photographed. (The white lines visible on the back of the neck in some photos are just reflections, and the "stripe" in the first picture is the reflection of the tripod leg.) The volume pot crackles a little bit when turned. Other than that, it's great. Bass weighs approximately 4.1kg (9lb). Nut width is the slimmer 40mm. So, as regards price, let's say £450 ono. Bass doesn't come with a hard case, I'm afraid, but I do have the box and packing material it was shipped to me in so could send it like that. If you wanted to organise a courier pick-up that would be fine. However I'd much prefer for it to be collected from me in Sheffield. Alternatively, I could drop off in say Central London and pay a visit to a friend but I'd need time to work that out. Or if anyone from the North-East is interested I could combine a drop-off with a family visit. If anyone has reservations about my lack of sales record (I've only sold one bass and one set of strings on basschat) please check my flawless ebay feedback (same user name as on here). Please PM me with interest. Cheers. 14. Don't know if you've already checked this out, so forgive me if you have: Stingrays do have quite a big neck too (I find them even more uncomfortable than P bass necks). However Ernie Ball does a neck option called the SLO Special. It's a Stingray on which the neck has the narrower profile of the Sterling (38mm at the nut as opposed to 41.3mm). It's much more comfortable to play. However they have only been around for just over a year so there aren't many used examples floating around (been hoping to score one myself). Also, there are P basses around with more comfortable necks. Fender Japan do a 70s reissue with a 40mm neck, which is slimmer than the standard 41.3mm. The Lakland Duck Dunn is a P bass with a Jazz neck, as is the Sadowsky Hybrid P/J. Might be worth checking those out too if the only thing stopping you playing Ps is the neck. Have a free bump.
15.
might be smart to ask for new pictures, since these one show the basses state a few years back and not as it is at the moment
Just to clarify, the picture of my old bass is the one posted by "hillbilly deluxe" in which the bass is resting on a blue cushion on a laminated floor. The pictures posted by the seller are presumably more recent (and are not even necessarily of the bass I used to own, though it is possible). Sorry for the confusion - free bump.
16.
Im guessing one of these,if it is,it's a bargain.
Funny to see my old bass! This is the pic I took when I listed it a few years back.
I say,no need to shout.I now im probly rite cos im smart i am. Looking at the pic that i posted,i just noticed that it has dots on the lower edge of the neck, how frikkin useless is that ? i still want one though.
There are also dots on the side edge of the fingerboard but in the places where the fret lines would be (as opposed to the space between the frets). This, combined with the dots on the fingerboard (also in the place where fret lines would be) gives a really good idea where the lines would have been, if that makes sense. It works really well.
17. Thanks for the replies, guys, this is all helpful stuff. I just noticed that the P pickup on this Fender PJ is not really in the same place as it would be on a P bass; it looks slightly closer to the neck. Contrast this with e.g. this Sadowsky PJ, you can see that the P pickup is further back, i.e. where it would be on a proper P bass. Just wondering how this might impact the tone.
18. Hi all, just wondering if anyone has ever played a Fender Japan JB75-PJ. It's a 75 reissue Jazz Bass with a Precision pickup in the neck position, like this one here. Just wondering if anyone could tell me whether this actually sounds like a Precision when this neck pickup is solo'd. The reason I ask is that I love the Precision sound but am much more comfortable on a Jazz neck and when I play a Jazz I mostly use the bridge pickup on its own. This would give me all of these things in one bass! I'd love to here from anyone who has one or has played one.
19. Wow, this one does do the rounds doesn't it? Would have been interested (again) if I hadn't bought one in December (for more than this one's going for). I'm sure it'll go fast again.

23. Here you go: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2010-Fender-American...=item2c5708aeae This seller has loads of parts, he has the vintage pickups too.
24. I'm sure I remember reading recently that someone wanted this exact model (can't remember if was here, on TB or the Ernie Ball forum though, may be worth doing a quick search).
