Korg announce ARP Odyssey synth - - updated
Quatschmacher replied to BassTractor's topic in Other Instruments
The Model D is really good. I bought one recently. Sadly I had to send it back as there’s a problem with the modulation section (and it seems to be problematic on quite a few of them) in that routing any modulation to the oscillators sends the base pitch sharp by a semitone. I’m waiting for another and hope it doesn’t suffer the same. Behringer are also cloning an OB-X and have done a Pro One too. -

Can confirm this. I played the full size version and mini version side by side. The full size keys felt really cheap. I’d get the mini or the module version. However, might be worth hanging on as Behringer showed a prototype Odyssey clone at Superbooth which has full size keys (same keybed as the Deepmind), built-in effects and a sequencer. It should be out this year. -
In my view, the best of the three is the Rendez Vous. Basically they are like this: Déja Vu has 2 LFOs (and NO envelope control). LFO is continuously variable between ramp, saw and triangle or skinny pulse, square and wide pulse. It has a modulation gate so that the LFO doesn’t bleed when in the audio range; Rendez Vous has 1 LFO and 1 envelope follower. LFO is same above pedal. It has the same modulation gate; Avant Garde has 2 envelope followers. It has NO modulation gate. Instead it has an LFO which can be used at the same time as both envelopes and can be routed to both sides of the pedal simultaneously. However it has a fixed shape and does not go to the extreme fast and slow speeds capable on the other two pedals so is of limited use (especially with the phaser). I rented the Rendez Vous for a week and loved it. The last time there was a sale on I bought the Avant Garde as I thought I’d prefer two envelopes but I didn’t think it was as versatile and sent it back. I really missed having the slow LFO to direct at the phaser (or filter) and having the two envelopes wasn’t really that useful given that even with the one envelope version, you can direct it to both sides of the pedal anyway. Same goes for the Déja Vous - having two LFOs is pointless because in the Rendez Vous you can direct the one LFO to both sides of the pedal. If you’re at all unsure, get the Rendez Vous

I sold Jonathan my Xerograph Deluxe. Communication was clear and friendly and payment was made promptly. I’d have no hesitations in trading with Jonathan again. Many thanks!

I just got an email with the sad news that Scarbee will be closing it’s web shop on 24th May (though will continue to provide support to customers thereafter). These virtual instruments are some of the very best around. This could be the last chance to buy some of these great instruments. He’s offering 50% off so move quickly. https://www.scarbee.com/

For anyone who’s feeling flush, Glou Glou is having a sale - €120 discount on his pedals: https://glou-glou.org/ As @tonyxtiger will attest, the Rendez-Vous is a fantastic pedal.

Dannybuoy is right. On the Manta the wave forms are all used at low frequencies as modulation sources. Some of the bass synth models in your zoom have sawtooth and square wave oscillators. And I’m sure they have equivalent LFOs too. CVs can be used as modulators or as sound sources in synthesis, depending on where they’re directed. If a waveform is directed at pitch or filter input then it’s a modulator; if it is routed straight into the amplifier then it becomes a sound source. It can even do both those things simultaneously.

True. I just checked out a couple of videos. One was a guy just playing the unit without any indication of the patch. It was clearly recognisable to me as the MF-101 sound though. One of the bass synth models has both saw and square available if you feel like your MBSS is lacking.

OC-3 might be digital if I recall correctly. I tried it but didn’t like it. Incidentally it sounded better plugging into the “guitar” input as opposed to the “bass” one.

Interesting device, and something I’ve never checked out until now. Have you tried using the built in MF-101 or Z-Tron filter patches or any of the bass synth models?

I actually saw a recent interview and pedalboard discussion with him and he’s actually using an OC-3 and MXR BOD currently.

It’s parallel so whatever is in the loop doesn’t get applied to the clean, octave down and octave up channels. Basically the original input signal gets split in two; one side feeds the loop, the other side feeds the clean, octave up and octave down knobs. You can get the same effect by running your bass into an LS-2 on A+B mix mode, putting octaver in channel A and other effects in channel B.
