2. That looks pretty. I was surprised that it doesn't seem to be available in natural (yet). But that ought to save me some money! Been looking on the EBMM forum to see if I can find some more. I'd love get my mitts on one to try. Just found some pics of the slo special on the bass central website!
3. Holy cow, I don't know what planet I've been living on lately but I was completely unaware that Ernie Ball have released some amazing new basses. Firstly I saw that they have remade the classic stingray with the (almost) original decal, through-body stringing, nice bird's eye maple on the necks. The other thing I spotted which nearly made me wet myself is that they've got a neck option on the normal Stingray called slo special. This is a Sterling profile neck! i.e. 1.5" nut but still with the Ray-sized headstock. This is SOOO cool. When I bought my last bass I really wanted the Stingray because I preferred the sound and the body shape and size. However, I still couldn't get on with the neck so ended up with the Sterling because it the neck was more comfortable and I could get a sound which was close. My question is, has anybody got either the Classic Stingray or the Stingray slo special (or physically seen them anywhere)? I really want to check them out!
4. Do you happen to have any sound clips of the bass? I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to know how the piezo sounds. Really interested to hear the comparison of piezo soloed, humbucker soloed, and the two blended. Have a free bump!
5.
hi there, It's really good! the natural sound isn't quite as bright as as jazz but is v close & the eq on this think is so powerful it only takes a slight treble boost & your there! I've found an Ed Friedland "Bass Whisperer" review that has some sounds on it, hope this helps: http://www.bassemporium.com/newsletters/0208newsletter.html Cheers.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question and for the link to the sound clips, it was most illuminating.
6. Just out of interest, how well does this reproduce the sound of a Jazz bass when playing with just the bridge pickupup on? Reason I ask is that when i had my Jazzes I mostly just used the bridge pickup; I also love the sound of Precision basses, so this combination (with the Jazz-width neck too) seems ideal. Free bump for a beautiful instrument.
7. Mmm, the longer this sits here, the more tempting it is. Do you happen to have any sound clips of this?
8. Hi, it's spelled "Sterling" not "Stirling". I thought I'd point it out, not to be pedantic, but so that you can amend your title so that anyone searching for one will find it easier. These are great basses - I play one.
9.
well i prefer the look and feel of the smaller body. thats it really! the UV's are full fender size while the MV and RV's are slightly downsized.
Fair enough, thanks for the reply. Having never had the fortune to play a Sadowsky perhaps you could tell me - does it nail the passive Fender tone?
10. If someone would just buy my house (without trying to rip me off) then I'd buy this in an instant! Chris, just wondering why you were looking for an RV5 as opposed to a UV5, I'd be interested to know.
11. Do we get to see a reshoot of the top photo once the bass is sold? :brow:
12. There are loads of great pro jazz bassists playing on the London scene. It might be worth checking a few gigs and finding someone whose tone and technique appeals to you and ask them if they'll teach (or they may pass you to one of their better students).
13.
Just need tp develop and patent a fret lowering system , and I'm sorted !!!
Sorry to hijack (free bump though). You mean one like this?
14. These have been selling on ebay in the UK for around £1400 over the last few months.
15.
hey Quatschmaker.... I can sell you a MIJ '62 RI (made in 91) P pup.... I just had mine replaced witha PJ EMGs, i know i know but I need a workhorse that will do everything and look traditional. pup can be yours for 25 quid posted.
That's very kind of you. I have however ordered a new camera and am broke again.
16. Hey NeonMig, thanks for the links to Renaud Garcia Fons, I'd never heard of him before, but I definitely will be checking out his music! Incidentally, have you heard of Avishai Cohen? He's a bass player (I say this because there is a trumpeter with the same name). If not, check him out. Inspirational.
17. Just to clarify: position 1 is not quite the same as a Stingray. A Stingray's pickups are wired in parallel, double pickup Sterlings have this position wired in series. (However, single H pickup model Sterlings do have this position wired in parallel.) So on the HS model, postion 1 is the same as position 3 on a single H model. Sill a great sound but doesn't quite have the more clicky treble of the parallel wiring.
18. I've been thinking about getting one of these for a while now (presuming it's the one with an alder body and US vintage pickup originally) - I actually had one on hold at Ishibashi for a week before I decided I needed to save the money for a new camera. If this had had the stock pickup then I may well have changed my mind!
19. Oh man, this is so tempting. I've got the cash burning a very big hole in my pocket, but I'm supposed to be saving for a new camera. I guess you're local too - I'm in Sheffield.
20.
If you want a Japanese one with an ash or alder body, you need a not-for-export model (it'll also have US pickups). Currently you can't get these exported new, but fareastguitars occasionally has second-hand ones.
Guitar Emporium has all the Japanese "not-for-export" models available (though at a premium price).
21. Apologies if this has already been posted. Check out the overpricing on this one!
22. How about running your bass through a Sadowsky outboard preamp? That might give you what you're looking for.
