Sold my Sadowsky preamp to him, couldn't ask for an easier/quicker transaction.

MMMM I've got a thumper which is brilliant. Really erm thumpy (I'll get my coat). Sounds great with a P-retro. I personally wouldn't do it - you don't know what you really want and if you sink a lot of money into it which you can't get back... FWIW both my main basses are quite heavily modded - but to get to that stage I've bought and sold loads of basses - made a mental note of what does and doesn't work (for me) and moved on.

I've been trading basses on here for the past few years and I have finally found the magic ingredients for me: J neck (get hand cramps with larger necks) P pickup 2 band active electronics (with boost and cut) Anyone else find that they just cant get a good sound/comfortable without a certain piece of gearcombination of gear? Also how would you describe your sound? I like loads of thump (more of a Motown sound) but with the top end to cut through in a rock band setting.
Spagetti western villan:"How mooch eef I want buy Greengo?" (swap;washburn fretless xb... sommat or other)
I'd be wanting £200 as it's immaculate, has a hard case (tatty!!) and has a new scratchplate. Might seem expensive but it looks even better in the flesh. I've got my Sadowsky back so not in a desperate rush to get rid, but it's not getting played...

I had an Elite that was very nice - some of the early 80s necks are really wide and flat. Going completely off topic, anyone know if many 80s Precisions came with J necks as standard?

So I'm looking to swap my OLP. IMHO this one is easily comparable to the newer budget range. OLPs are either really good or really bad - this one is spot on. The quality is great. Was apparently the last Levin into the country! I bought it brand new and have only used it for maybe 3 hours over the last couple of years. 5 string with active 3 band EQ - the neck is really nice. I just cant get on with 5 strings. I've fitted a White pearl scratchplate which contrasts nicely and really sets off the bass. Will throw in a tatty but functional hard case too. Looks brand new. Sell for £200 or now swap for an interesting 4 string - really fancy a lawsuit Ibby Precision or other vintage MIJ SOLD

Speaking of necks - do any of the Tributes ever come with a Jazz neck? I just can't get on with any other nut width.
I suppose I choose which bands I want to play in. 'Course I've done all sorts of stuff I wouldn't choose at weddings etc and had great fun doing them, just because others have enjoyed us playing them. But, we have turned down requests before and dropped songs from lists because we just didn't like them, paid or otherwise.
Slightly off topic but I had a similar thing. Rest of the band wanted to do Hot Stuff and I couldn't stand it. Fast forward 2 years, it's our biggest song ending the night and I absolutely love playing it??!! -
Thanks for all the replies - got a few days so I'll leave it and see what happens...

Had a great gig last night but had to use SS strings instead of Nickels and dug in a bit too much (Im a sucker for a good crowd...). I've now got a blister on my finger - should I pop it today so that hopefully it heals for next Saturday?
The BR600 has got built in amp modelling & effects, and also a pretty good drum machine, which can also be programmed via a PC using software you can download from the Boss website. You can also export tracks as WAV or AIFF files so they can be used on other machines, PCs etc.
Have you got one? There seems to be a few bad reviews kicking about. Are there any other drum machine multi trackers apart from the R16 and BR600?
When I say "Sketchbook" I meant something that can be set up & used quickly if inspiration strikes (it's got built in mics & can be powered by batteries), not that it was of low quality. I should have been a bit clearer there.
Ahh I see. Quick setup is a must so I don't lose interest/can get instant results. The ability to put a decent drum track from inbuilt drums would be good, as would a few guitar effects.
It depends what sort of quality you're going for - do you want it mainly to use as a "sketchbook" or to produce professional finished work? I've been using a Boss BR600 8 track for a while & have been pleasantly surprised at how good it can sound. They're always on Ebay (that's how I got mine) & you'll easily get one for under £200.
mmm not really a sketchbook as Ive got my iPhone for that. Main idea is to be able to record something presentable

Thanks for all the advice - to be fair we do discuss each gig in detail afterwards. Think the idea to work on the first three is a good one - even though they have been picked as being tight.
-
We play three sets at most gigs and the first set is never that tight with quite a few mistakes made by everyone. We seem to progressively get better as the night goes on. Does anyone else have this problem? What's the solution? Just practice? We can't really do extended soundchecks either...

I bought mulitrack for my iPhone and it has proved to be a bit of a revelation - if a little fiddly. Last year I mucked about with Cubase and a control surface, but the faffing around put me off. So I'm looking for a multitrack recorder - would prefer an 8 track but need to do it as cheap as possible - £200 to £300 if I can raise the cash. Anyone got any recommendations? Seen a Tascam DP-01 for £100...any good compared to the new generation?
