In order to save money, we decided to record in a studio and get one of my mates to mix it. The tracks have been recorded using the latest version of Cubase and apparently aren't compatible with earlier versions of Cubase. My mate doesn't use Cubase... Any ideas what I can do?

Anyone ever played in a Bon Jovi tribute?
Jamesemt replied to Jamesemt's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the replies - didn't realise there was quite so much negativity towards Bon Jovi... -
I've decided that I don't really need a 4th backup SX Jazz, so am considering trading for an acoustic bass. The Jazz has never been played and was recently set up by Jon Shuker with a set of Rotosounds. As you can imagine, just like new. These are the '57 maple neck shape meaning it's the thinnest neck they do on a bass - all three jazz copies have different neck profiles. This is super comfy and is what Jon Shuker is copying for my custom build! Has a cheapo Rondo hard case which I'll include in the deal. Will consider anything as long as it isn't black. Not currently for sale as it would be heart breaking to lose so much cash!! SOLD

Been thinking of starting a Bon Jovi tribute for the last couple of years. Just wondered if anyone has played in one? Not really looking to make money from it, but a lot of people know the big hits. Seems logical as I cut my bass playing teeth with Hugh's basslines and can probably play about 20 songs (LOL still can't play Keep The Faith to gigging standard without a pick...) Also does a tribute have to look like the band in question? It's always struck me as being a bit sad, trying to ACTUALLY look like a famous artist... Any thoughts? My current covers band is heading in a direction I don't particularly like.
Does anybody have any experience with these basses. ?
Ermm yeah I've got 4. Bit of a mixed bag - on the whole they are brilliant value, but suffer like most budget Chinese instruments from a lack of quality control and shoddy build. I found the Precision necks to be huge, the Jazz '57 (!!) neck is perfect - I'm getting a custom build and am using the neck specs of that SX. Bit chunkier than a Fender Jazz neck but really comfortable to me. Most people use them for the woods/finish and junk all the hardware. I've got a Jazz that has an Audere, Hipshots and a Gotoh 201 bridge. Some would argue that they are fine out of the box - I feel the bridge made a big difference for the cash. I've not got a full size Precision at present - I've got the 3/4 which is monstrously thumpy. Have you seen them on Rondo music's site? Hope this helps
SX compare favorably to any Fender I've played.
Mmm I used to think the same - I have four SXs in various states of upgrade (including a Jazz with Audere, Gotoh bridge and Hipshots). I thought they sounded pretty good until I got my (Fullerton) Fender Precision Special - it majorly blows everything else away...
Have you thought about getting a new body made up?
I can't do it as the bass is really original and lovely... I've already had brief discussions with Jon Shuker about building me a lightweight clone...problem is my current Buckeye build is taking a while because I keep getting Jon to do other jobs (LEDS on two basses, 5 bass setups, neck shaping) -
Some time ago I had a local guru clone this circuit - he's not with us any more but I think I may still have the unit and/or the schematic somewhere (don't hold your breath - I've got a double garage workshop all shelved out and it takes a while to find anything!)
If you find the unit/schematic I'd be happy to buy either off you!! -
Can you describe the tone from the P special that you like? Is it hot like a Stingray? Thinking G&L Tribute might be for you!
I've never played a Stingray!!! It sounded really thin and middy at home, yet perfect thumpy and cutting through with the band. Switched to an SX Jazz half way through the rehearsal and the rest of the band asked where the bottom end had gone -
Oh, and by the way - the Precision Special in the OP will have been an '81.
OK cheers for that - the guy I bought it off was convinced it was a '79. Headstock starts E8 so I presumed it was maybe a late '79 early '80. FWIW My Elite 1 sounds very similar at home - but that's in too good a condition to leave the house!! -
Many would say that the tone is ultimately down to the PUPs and circuit so you could try dropping them into a lighter Precision? C
Ahhhh don't know if I could bring myself to split up a really nice bass!! Wonder if someone could clone me the preamp?? -
I posted this thread initially on talkbass as I thought the Specials were more common in the states, but not many people seem to know about them. I got a great deal on a '79 Precision Special (painted headstock/active) the other month and thought that it sounded pretty rubbish at home. Took it to band rehearsal last night for the first time as I'm having work done on my rehearsal basses, all I can say is WOW - this bass is EXACTLY what I was looking for in my tone. Only downside is that it's way too heavy to gig with (I had to sit down after 30 mins). My gig basses are a pair of lightweight Hohner Jacks. Can anyone think of a bass which sounds pretty similar to an old Precision Special when running active? Has anyone compared the MIM newer Specials to the old ones? Although I don't think they'll be in the same ballpark as they are completely different animals... I've never played a Stingray in a band setting (as I don't own one), but am led to believe that the late 70s/early80s Precision Specials were designed as competition to the 'Ray. Unfortunately aren't most of those back breakers too? FWIW I was using the active circuit with the bass slightly boosted and boosting/cutting the treble depending on the song
