Presumably you're swapping basses mid-set and not just retuning? If so you should expect to have to tweak your volume or eq if you don't want to fiddle with the amp you could try an eq pedal perhaps? Also if your jazz is too thumpy, how do you have the controls set? Can you just back off the neck pickup a tad or even lower the pickup slightly?
yeah using a different bass. If I roll off the neck and onto the bridge pickup I get too much fret clank due to running less string tension. Never thought about lowering the pickup...might give that a try

Yeah sorry thought I'd made that clear. Think I'm sorted as Ive been offered a DHA DI EQ box
Could try some punchier strings, DR lowriders are my preference
Are low riders more zingy? I presumed they'd be more thumpy and ermm low

For 3 songs with the band I have to go to DGCF for the singer's range. Problem is I'm using a passive jazz and just get way too much thump. Apart from altering the eq mid set (which I don't want to do) is there anything else I can do? Maybe try different strings? It's got light Roto Nickels on presently...
BDI21. Simples.
Cheers mate, used to have one of those. What would be the next step up? What about this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ART-X-Direct-profess...=item3efcfb278e Obviously no tone shaping, but I could do that direct on the desk/bass.

As the title - I could do with a cheap di pedal that I can leave in my gigbag. Don't want to spend on a Sansamp as this is purely as an emergency backup... Cheers
Why not give John Shuker a call? My Singlecut is a great versatile bass and is not that heavy.
Ermm got one of his in the building stages...this is to tide me over
Actually James, I just noticed you're very close to me - I'm just over the Humber Bridge, so you're welcome to come and try mine.
Thanks for that but I just can't get past the shape - seems I'm a lot more conservative than I thought

Nice bloke, two easy deals. He bought my soundcard and Eden cabs. Well recommended, a credit to basschat.

I'm in the process of selling most of my basses and just having one really good one to use for everything. So what do you recommend? Can spend around £1300 from current bass sales - maybe an extra £800 if I sell my P Special. Must be active and light for pop/rock stuff with 38mm nut width. Any ideas? I'm thinking about a Sadowsky atm... I'm quite liking my SX Jazz, so old school ish may be the way forward...
How did it get on James?
Fantastic - majorly meaty. Had the shuttle gain and volume on half and played the full gig without PA support (even though I was plugged in it wasn't needed )
These really are very good basses indeed - something quite different from a standard Precision and built during a renaissance period for Fender. I had one (in fabulous condition) and regret selling it - the circuit really is impressive for an early attempt with active electronics. I can't quite remember what the neck dimensions are (is it J width?) - it may be worth posting. Good luck with the sale - a very lovely bass (but you're right, they're very heavy)
It's not a Jazz neck - think it's a 'B' in terms of nut width and shape - although the neck isn't as chunky as a 78 Precision I had...or as Pancake like as an early 80s Elite that Ive just sold...
Hiya James Glad you're liking the cab. I've got the matching head and have to say that, despite some pretty negative things I'd read about it, I love the little thing. Nice tone, small, light, and actually pretty decent to look at also. I was tempted to get the matching cab as they make a great pair to look at (as a pair they remind me of the valve radiogram my gran gave me in about 1970), and I'd really like to have a decent sounding and looking rig I can leave in the living room at home. There's a rather negative review somewhere - probably Harmony Central - where the guy complains of poor quality sound at high dbs and then a blown speaker. No doubt this was an isolated incident but it would be useful to hear how yours handles a decent level of volume? Cheers mate Chris
I'll let you know after tomorrow night as Ive got a pub gig...
But if the cabs are running in parallel, does that not mean that they are both receiving 300 watts?
Pass, haven't got a clue

Precision Special now sold OLP Levin natural 5 String. Ive fitted a white pearloid pickguard. One ding on the headstock which was there when I bought it. Otherwise as brand new. This is a 'good' one - as with a lot of Chinese made instruments the quality varies greatly, this one is spot on. In fact I'd go as far as to say it's as good as the new budget MM range... Apparently the last Levin into the country. £220 with slightly tatty (but fully functional) hard case. SX shortscale Precision in sunburst. Immaculate as brand new (only played a couple of times) and just set up by Jon Shuker with Roto Nickels. Comes with a short scale hard to find hard case (which I had to buy from the states...) therefore £140. Consider swapping any of the above for a good Jazz spec Fender neck - the tattier the better as it's for a relic build. Must be Jazz width - Precision A neck fine too. Can add cash into the deal. Collection from Hull/ courier also OK. If you have a good neck to part ex then I'll travel just about anywhere in the country...
