1. The mics are a drummers set that clip onto the kit, bought by the drummer
2. I've only got 3 inputs left on my soundcard for the drums and am wondering where best to place the mics? I'm thinking Mic1 kick drum, Mic2 in between snare and high-hat, then third in between the two toms. Alternative is to use a fourth mic and mix two of the mics together before recording... Any advice - this is only for rehearsals but I've splashed out £300 on a soundcard so do want something semi decent
3. Hi guys, I've bought an Alesis IO26 soundcard to track record the band at the next rehearsal, but the freebie Cubase LE oftware I got with it won't work on my Vista laptop. Can anyone recommend something cheap or free that will allow decent results and allow me to record 8 inputs at once. Once I've had a mess about for a few weeks I may bite the bullet and buy something decent, but want to see just how much of a hassle it is first.
4. At the end of the day its only for reference/family/pub landlords - maybe mute certain instruments to pass on as backing tracks. Think I'm going to stick with the cheaper option and get the recommended Alesis IO26
5. Thanks for the replies....still unsure as to what to go for!! Any more advice?
6. Cheers - I'm currently using a zoom h2. Got a £500 budget What about a presonus firestudio?
7. I'm wanting to start tracking rehearsals as the drummer has just bought some mics, and everyone else plays through their own PAs apart from me. Am I right in thinking I just need a multiple input soundcard and some decent software? I've got a dual core laptop with 4GB of memory to run it
8. Thanks for all the replies - think I need to play one soon... What feels different about the neck? Does it feel colder?
9.
I've got a Status and my slap technique's about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Don't get a fixed '80's slap' idea re Status basses. Mine's a bolt - on resin necked headless - not sure where you are in East Yorks but if you want to come and not slap mine in Wakefield to try it out , you're welcome.
I may have to take you up on that!!! Close to finishing a massively stressful course through work which I've been putting off for 7 years (and nearly cost me my marriage and also the band). I always said that if I passed Id buy a new car, but funds dictate that it may just be a bass on the credit card! What's the starting price for a new one? Is it about £2k?
10.
I am only using 1 2x10 at the mo too and its fine now I have played around with the volume and gain. I have a massive 4x12 cab that sometimes gets busted out at bigger venues but mostly for pubs and stuff the 2x10 is plenty. Jamesemt: Do you happen to play against 2 marshall stack guitar "gods"? That would explain why you aint getting through.
No only one guitarist - but he does use a 1kw PA just for his guitar...
11. After playing loads of basses I've settled on a Hohner Jack and was wondering if there was something similar but more boutique. Would a Status fit the bill? The reason I love the Jack is the weight, balance, playability, tuning stability and punchy active electronics. Is this similar to a Status? Can you buy a Status if you don't slap?
12. Fender USA bass hard case - the new version in excellent condition. £150 new price Looking to swap for a high quality guitar gig bag or two - maybe a Contego or something?? Would prefer a semi rigid design. Postage possible
13.
I can't imagine 250w per side into 2 cabs not being enough; I run only one channel of my Fly into one 8 ohm cab and it's plenty.
What can I say, it isn't loud enough. I'm running the thing full on the dial and it's clipping when I dig in... Unless doing the earlier trick of running the input volume on full drastically alters things.
14.
Eh, i just wonder , i presume your talking about the 1000W version of the Superfly in this comparison?
Did that ever get released? No I'm talking about the 2x250 Superfly. I realise the Little Giant 1000 has twice the power, but wondered wether it REALLY has twice the power...if you know what I mean??!!
15.
I havent tried the little giant but did have the same complaint about my superfly. I turned the input volume up full and turned the gain right down. Now it seems I can get more volume out without it clipping or even going into the orange on the input level. Maybe I shouldnt be doing this though. Anyone know more about it?
Thats really interesting mate - I presume you are using a passive bass? How high can you go with the gain if the imput volume is on max?
16. My Superfly is just not loud enough with 2x4 ohm Eden Nemesis cabs in the current band. Has anyone compared the Little Giant 1000 to the Superfly for overall volume?
17.
That P bass is gorgeous, you should put up some prices!
Advice taken
18. The Big Red Blook OF American Lutherie Vol 4: I bought this for the relicing articles, so it's practically unread. Loads of articles on guitar building/setup and repair. 500 pages and hardback. £17 delivered - this cost me shed loads from the states... Mel Bay Time Signature Studies: I bought this a couple of months ago, but can't read music (no tab included). £10 delivered Will accept personal Paypal or cheque. James
19.
MB1. Hello Blimey!... James! Have seen all these Basses in the flesh and there all Dam Good Stuff!....(i supplied the new Fender case..and they are that expensive......and indestructible.....Thomann £144) James is a great chap to trade/buy from......Well worth a visit!.... All The Best! Martin.
Thanks guys - strange that I've gone full circle with the basses. Been struggling to find a bass that sounded good with the band, and the jack fits the bill...
20.
How much you looking for for the P?
Which one?? I'm open to offers!
21.
Crikey, hope all's well mate, I'm hoping you need an insurance quote and are not selling? Chris
LOL I've just found the bass which sounds right and I can cope with for a full gig...a Hohner Jack Your old Precision is awesome but I'm getting shoulder ache even with an extra wide strap.
22. I'm trying to sell some basses, and am trying to gauge what is a fair price. First is an immaculate CIJ 62 Jazz with 62 reissue American pickups, stack knob control plate and hipshot ultralites. Rosewood with OTM body. With new Warwick hard case. Second is an immaculate 78 parts Precision which used to belong to Beedster. Mostly original apart from scratchplate/pickup/knobs. Refinished in sunburst by Martin Simms. Rosewood. Brand new Fender fitted hard case - one of the new style. Third is an Elite 1 from 83 - absolutely unmarked with original case in black maple and gold. Any ideas what is reasonable for these?
23. After a long slog through literally loads of basses I've found my ideal gigging bass - the first bass I ever bought, a Hohner Jack bass. So I've decided to thin the herd slightly. First off is an immaculate CIJ Fender Jazz in Ocean Torquiose, with pickups from a US 62 reissue, Hipshot Ultralites and a stack knob configuration. Also comes with straplocks. Rosewood. Comes with a ropey case. SOLD Secondly is a parts 70s P in sunburst which used to belong to Beedster. I swore blind to him that I had found 'the one' and would never sell it but it's just a bit too heavy for my dodgy shoulders - though by no means is it a heavy example. The body was refinished by Martin Simms and is awesome - the grain almost looks 3D. It's all original apart from the pickguard/knobs/straplocks and pickup (from what I can remember - Beedster may be able to clarify). Will throw in a new shape fitted Fender case (like you get with the new standards) which apparently retails for £150. Pictures swiped from Beedster below (hope thats OK mate?)sold Thirdly is a truly immaculate Elite 1 in black and maple with stunning gold hardware. Bought as an investment with the original case - I'm just not that into Fenders any more I did advertise this for sale a while ago and agreed to do a deal with someone but had a lot of things going on at home. So if you are reading this, appologies. Absolutely immaculate, looks six months old. Pictures from the website I bought it from are here: http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/sol...ender_elite.htm I'm accepting offers on these - would really prefer a part ex with a Hohner Jack as I'd like a second as a backup. Will post pictures if there is any interest. Will also consider swapping for decent digital camera gear - Canon lenses mainly. Can deliver for fuel costs up to about 200 miles from Hull, which is likely to cost you £40.
24. I'll take it !! Will pm you later, or pm me if I forget!!!
