  1. This bass is in excellent condition. The spec is as follows. Alembic Europa 5 string bass Scale Length Long scale 34" Neck through design with maple and purpleheart construction Ebony fretboard Adjustable height brass nut Solid machined brass bridge with brass saddes mounted to a large brass sustain block Solid machined brass tailpiece. Top wood is Bocate Body is solid mahogany Headstock has a bocate laminate on front and back, with cast brass alembic logo on the front. Tuners are gold coloured. Pickups are alembic MXY low impedance pickups. The Europa controls are volume, pan, filter, Q switch, bass boost/cut switch, treble boost/cut switch. The quick tone switches are bass and treble and are not individual switches for the pickups. Each switch provides 6db boost, flat, and 6db cut. side mounted 1/4" mono jack (see image link) http://club.alembic.com/Images/16271/106010.jpg (Owners Manual) http://www.alembic.com/support/care.html The bass is a neck through design made from maple and purpleheart. Ebony There is an inlay of my initials in the 12th fret which was done by Jaydee custom guitars about 12 years or so ago plus and my name engraved on the truss rod cavity which i may be able to remove if if is a deal breaker or the buyer can just reverse it. The switches are mounted on chrome plated washers as a few years i installed some East ACG filter based electronics which required enlarging the existing switch holes to fit the filter controls. The original electronics have been back in the bass for ages now but I had to get larger washers mount the original switches. If I can find some black washers I will install those instead. The back control cavity cover is gold plated and was like that when i bought the bass. What else can I say. Well it is a great sounding bass and i am only selling it because it is not getting enough playing time so i'd rather it went to someone who will give it more attention. Send me a PM if interested. I have an original case for it also. Some information from the Alembic web site. EUROPA With its elegant and understated form, the Europa bass is the type of instrument you return to again and again, and each time you're reminded of why you love this bass so much. From the moment you wear it on strap, comfort and balance greet you. Plugging into the side mounted jack gives a satifying "kerchunk" in response. Once your amp warms up, the tone that piqued your interest in the first place comes flowing back. This bass is home. Quick tone change switches give instant access to useful on-the-fly sounds. When you're ready to take that solo, you can simply flick the bass and treble switches to the boost position, knowing full well that when you're finished, that original sound is just a click away. The Europa comes standard with Alembic's classic Maple and Purpleheart neck lamination pattern. This engineered beam supports even response across the Ebony fingerboard, and assures that snappy Alembic brilliance will be delivered at every note. Like most Alembic basses, Europas are quite happy in a variety of musical settings. Turn the low-pass filters down to 300Hz for deep tones suitable for blues. Turned up to 6KHz, there's plenty of zing for slap or driving rock technique with a pick. Versatility puts the tone control in your heart and your hands. Since each Europa bass is handcrafted right in our one-and-only shop in Santa Rosa, California, you are able to custom order any aspect of the bass. Custom fingerboard dimensions, wood choices, decorative details, or even things not yet invented are possible. More information Here are some soundcloud clips from a rehearsal with this bass. This is an amazing sounding bass and I have used it on numerous gigs though in recent years I have used it less and less as I have been using my two filter bass more. I would love this bass to go to someone who can get more use out of it than I can. I would prefer not to post it if at all possible and if you want to try before you buy, i can arrange that in my mate's studio so you can hear it at full bore.
  2. I fail to understand the connection with bass ownership and musical prowess. There is nothing that mandates a certain level of musicianship being required to own any musical instrument. Surely it's personal choice isn't it? For example a friend of mine's dad bought him a Gibson Les Paul when he decided to learn guitar as a teenager. Buy what you like, life is too short. I play alembic in a reggae band and often there are only two chords. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ˜.
  3. I'm using some custom straps by Pinegrove Leather to ease the ache on my shoulder from my heavy basses. https://www.pinegroveleather.com/ They aren't cheap but really great quality.
  4. I wanted to change the valve in mine a couple of years back but the ones ordered did not fit in the sleeve on the F-1x board. Eventually i found one that fitted but the problem i was having wasn't due to the valve, the preamp needed a new transformer. i kept the new valve as a spare.
  5. In order Peavey (sold) Trace Elliot BLX80 (gave away) Mesa boogie walkabout, powerhouse cabs 2x10, 4x10 and 1x15 ( sold first two cabs, gave away the 1x15) Alembic F-1x, SF-2, (QSC PLX2402 power amp, sold ) Crown XLS1502 (current) PJB Briefcase Barefaced bass cabs Schertler Unico (used with EUB)
  6. No i have not changed the valve. In the past i used a QSC PLX 2402 power amp. Which is a superb amp. But it made my rack far too heavy. I now use a Synq 1K0 stereo power amp. Though they arenโ€™t produced new any more.
  7. I've been using one of these as my main preamp since around the late 2000's Here is a PDF manual for it. http://www.alembic.com/support/F-1Xoperatingguide.pdf
  8. Well i've just had some new gigs in my diary including one on 22nd April so count me out.
  9. I bit expensive but i would recommend checking harvest out. http://www.harvest-guitar.com/en/Bass-Bags-For-Two/ I bought the the leather one years back for the same reason, and whilst not used as much as i expected it is useful for carrying one bass and clothes accessories in the spare compartment. A bit heavy before the basses go in and my basses weigh between 12 and 14lbs. Oops just noted you said less chunky, the leather one is really chunky. But will leave this post for reference.

  11. This sounds like yet another rewording of the old threads about , price and diminishing returns, coffee table basses.....etc. Correct no-one needs to spend a lot of money on a bass, but if they do, why should what someone decides to do with their own money bother anyone enough to start a topic about it. I have never yet read a thread where someone owning an expensive bass has an issue with someone else's choice to buy something cheaper. When it comes down to it we buy a bass that we want and can afford and that's it. As long as it does the job the price is irrelevant after that as is whether anyone other than the player can tell it's price point.๐ŸŽถ
  12. I gave my last Mesa boogie powerhouse cab to a local music service as I wasn't having any joy selling it. I probably have more gear than i actually need and apart from the cabs, they are all pretty weighty items. I do rotate them so they don't stand idle for years on end, well the guitar amps do but not the bass stuff. I will be selling the guitar amps this year and getting a smaller more portable one that I can use practically for gigging and home practice.
  13. Thanks for that, I haven't read it all yet but it's not something I was aware of but next time i will suggest they have more bass in their stage monitors. This question may be dealt with further on in the article but, is this also an issue with side fills as most of the larger stages i play on have those too?
  14. Barefaced cabs also have a much better off axis sound than the ampeg fridges i have had to use at some gigs. On a recent gig i put the ampeg 8x10 on the guitarist's side of the stage and kept my BT II for me. Plugged my SC Acoustic preamp into the back of the ampeg head and the sound was great.
  15. I do reggae gigs and replaced my Mesa Boogie Powerhouse cabs with Barefaced ones and so far they have proved perfect. I have a Big Twin II, Big Baby II, Dubster II (18" speaker). For most of my reggae gigs I use the Big Twin II. That's my rig that I use most of the time. Big Twin II Occasionally I use these two Bib Baby II and Dubster II ( Complete overkill actually) . I don't tend to use the big baby II on it's own for reggae gigs For me the Big Twin II has proved to be the perfect cab for reggae and with the tweeter it is great for other genres too. There is no sacrifice on the bottom end. From my personal experience, the design of these cabs makes the bottom end glorious but balanced throughout the range. Put a lot of bottom end in, you get a lot of it out. @Marcus CornallI notice you are a fellow brummie. I'm doing a gig at the Jam House on 1st March and at the 02 in Digbeth on 25th and will have my Big Twin II most likely. Other than that I may be able to squeeze you in at a rehearsal to check out the BBII as i sometimes carry that one along.
  16. I had mine done by Toby Diggins at Jaydee Custom guitars, but last time i checked, he was too busy doing their own stuff to take on other stuff. But you an always give them a call.
  17. I also had one for a really short time and yes the fan is really noisy. When i sold it to a friend i let him try it out at a gig we were both on and we found the DI was making a noise. So i gave him a separate di box and he was happy.
  18. One of my new basses came wth a free set. They are the only bass string that have ever broken on me. The 'D' string. Hence never used them since.
  19. Both items arrived completely as described and problem free transactions. Thanks guys . Installed in my regular bass rig. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽถ My newly organised pedal board. just waiting for PSU.
  20. I've had a couple of gigs when my bass rig was on a riser behind me so I laid the BT2 cab on it's side and put my rack in the centre. Thankfully I had earplugs in and most of my bass sound through the PA. So i didn't need it up loud.
  21. I bought one from a member here and also haven't used it since going Barefaced. Though , i did use it with my mesa boogie cabs and liked the 3D aspect it gave.
  22. I had one of those as my 6u bass rack power amp for a few years but it was incredibly heavy to the point that I hardly used that rack so I changed it for a Crown Class D power amp. BUT..... to my ears the QSC sounds a heck of a lot better and i do miss it for that reason but since most of my gigs these days are through a PA. I will have almost convinced myself not to revisit that. All the best with the sale.
  23. Would you really take large drill bits to your alembic?
