1. Within a whisker several times but still no luck. More bumps.
2. I think there's still a Phil Jones double four on the for sale board here. Superb for what you need, great sound through headphones or speakers. Won't keep up with a band at all but if that isn't a possibility I'd start there.
3. Cheers Harry! Close but no cigar type bump.
4.
Tell us more!
I know it's all subjective, but it just sounded....... right. Putting it through 2 cabs at 4 ohms made a huge difference in terms of pushing more air and giving the sound more weight. It was fat, round and clear without being muddy or boomy at the bottom end. I don't like much treble or bite at all but I've found that this means that higher notes can disappear, however this wasn't the case and it was even across all strings without treading on the guitarist's toes. Sound on stage and out front was clear and separated. We were using all backline but it wasn't a washout. The only gripe I have is that the butterfly style fastenings for the front plate prevent the amp from standing on it's short edge, which is the natural place you'd put it down given the position of the handle. It took a diving save to prevent a nasty bump! Anyway, crappy phone pic, but you can see the settings:
5. Reporting back: that went well!
6. Yep. Sounds great through an SC on it's own. Running it tonight with a gen 2 compact and the SC. I'll try and report back but I may be focused elsewhere given the gig is now a 3 piece rather than our usual four. My backing vocals will need a bit more attention than usual!
7. I get to gig my r400 for the first time tonight after a few very agreeable one cab rehearsals
8. Swapped an amp with Harry tonight. Great comms in the lead up, really easy to deal with and a lovely bloke to have a brew and a chat about the joys of fatherhood with! Thanks Harry, Andy
9. Now only £500 for a great amp.
10. Cheers JV. Weekend bumpage.
11. Trade offers and PMs replied to. The tree in the pics is gone but the amp is still here.
12. That is filth. Have a bump.
13. Back off hold - now £525.
14. Trade offers replied to, still for sale. New year bump.
15. We've just had a few gigs for next year put in doubt because the landlord is reviewing the band policy due to 'some bands just not turning down'. If you can sort your guitarist out then you'll be doing all your local bands a favour. I must be lucky in that we all seem to understand that levels have to be set for balance and the venue. Don't think I'd hang around long in a band that didnt.
16. What were you thinking of? PM me, you never know Andy
17. Shake the halls for Xmas type bump.
18. *cough* http://basschat.co.uk/topic/297032-mesa-walkabout-300w-head/page__pid__3196384#entry3196384 *cough* Shuffles feet, looks a bit sheepish.
19. Bought TPJ's R-400 earlier in the week. He very kindly brought it to rehearsals and waited whilst I tried it out. I was expecting to give it a proper going over for quite a while but after one song the rest of the band said 'go and give him the money and turn the bloody thing down!' That was though a single 8ohm cab. Won't get to try it at 4 ohms until the new year but very very good first impressions.
20. NOW £500 For sale, my Mesa Walkabout head sliver face model. These amps are very highly regarded with good reason. I moved to this from class D amps and immediately noticed that I had a 'bigger' (IMHO) sound even when running through one 8ohm cab. For me it's an ideal balance between weight and power/depth of sound. I'm only selling because I'm turning into a serial GAS addict and have just had the chance to buy something else that looks shiny. As usual I'll probably regret it. It's in good but used condition, works perfectly and sounds huge but has a few paintwork scrapes on the top rear edge. Comes with the Mesa amp bag too. The specs are (borrowed from WOT's recent ad): Wattage - 300 Watts @ 4 Ohms / 165 Watts @ 8 Ohms Power Amp Type - Simul-State™ Power - 6 Tube Driven Power MOSFET's Preamp - Vacuum Tube Preamp w/ 2x Mesa 12AX7 EQ / Dynamics Control - Active Bass & Treble, Passive Mid, Plus a 3-Band Semi-Parametric Weight - 13 Lbs. Dimensions - 3 1/2" x 12" x 12" You're welcome to come and try in Sale, South Manchester. I can travel (within reason) to meet up. Although I'd prefer not to, I will post within the UK, but at extra cost and buyer's risk as this is a tube preamp head. No trades thanks.
21. Bought an amp from Tom yesterday. He travelled over to our rehearsal room and tactfully waited with a brew whilst I played about with it. Great comms and an all round top bloke, sorry we didn't have more time to chat.
22. Does anyone know if a 5 string set is in the pipeline? My bass is due a string change and setup pretty soon and I fancy giving these a go.
23. After freezing fog and playing to the (very appreciative) bar staff plus about 20 brave souls last weekend our last gig of 2016 was at the Steamhouse, Sale last night. Cool place with a dedicated downstairs cosy band room, big stage and power sockets aplenty. Lovely beer too and a mile from home, what's not to like? Place fluctuated between nicely busy and packed all night. Three setter with a 12:45 finish. Great reaction from the punters and loads of positive comments. We've worked hard on the set to keep people moving and singing and it paid dividends last night. Very happy with the sound and the interaction and 'show' aspect of the performance too. Our singer was out of action for about 6 months at the start of the year so we covered as a 3 piece but it's loads better with all four of us. Rig sounded ace, plus I was trying a wired Fischer Stick IEM to replace my broken LD MEI 100, which took a bit of adjusting to but was very good and will be even better when my OBBM dual cable arrives and I don't have to gaffa an XLR to my bass lead. Best bit, the stage 'diver' who turned out to be the drummer's wife tripping over the 2 inch step up to the stage and nearly taking out the guitarist's pedalboard! We've somehow managed to book up for next year already (easier then it sounds when you only do one gig month). Let's hope they're all like that one. Oh, and there was even room for the xmas tree
24. Hmm, footloose is getting an outing this Saturday......
