1. I've just swapped from a TH500 to a walkabout and IMHO there's much more low end presence. It just sounds bigger with the same bass and cabs. I've also had a LM2 and portaflex 500 in the past and couldn't get the same effect. The sound now has a physicality that it didn't before. Weight/portability difference barely registers, still a small amp bag, just a bit heavier. All completely subjective of course........
2.
I have Haeussel's in my Jake and they're nice, but my latest build from Mensinger is going to have a Delano P pickup in
I'm looking at going the opposite way, my Jake p/j was 2nd hand and came with Delanos but they don't really do it for me so looking at swapping. I love the sound of limelight pups but Mark doesn't do 5 string so considering the haeussels. Thanks for the advice and the link.
3.
I sent one with a query about a custom build about a week ago...
Thought you didn't fancy one Muzz? If you go for the haeussel pups I'd be interested in hearing them rather than ordering a set based on YouTube vids.
4. I picked up a 5 string chambered Jake from the for sale board here. It's stupidly light and no neck dive at all. There's no tonal deficit that I've noticed, although I haven't A/Bed with a non chambered version.
5. Cheers WOT. I've managed to tame the Delanos with the walkabout eq but that's only at tickling pressure. I reckon they'll get a bit much when I get carried away and dig in at gig time. Off to hunt down the back of the sofa for pickup money now!
6.
Actually got to lay hands on one last night, (it was a sunburst P5), and the build quality was exemplary: certainly as good as a good example of the real thing from the US, if not better, and delightfully, erm, light. Wasn't too keen on the Delanos, but that's just me.
That would be this one then: Nice to meet you Muzz - traded my TH500 for his Walkabout and had a good chat. I'm slowly morphing into WOT! Following on from our chat about the Delanos I was coming on here to ask for advice about alternatives, they're too harsh for me so I think swapping them out is on the cards. At the moment I'm considering the Maruszcyzk house pups, haussels or maybe asking Mark to see if he'll do me a set of limelights (love the sound from those). Does anyone have any advice/opinions?
7. I use G2 and G3 compacts together in the gig rig. Sounds great. Andy
8.
Well we did the gig last night and it went down really well, our drummer was amazing, and the good thing to come from it is that we now know that we have TWO excellent vocalists in our band, which means we are very versatile and should be able to fulfil most gigs barring the whole band going down with something all at once.
Good innit? 😃
9. We're out as a 3 piece tonight for the same reason. No fault of her own but our singer can barely speak and is having coughing fits. Done it a few times to gig when not everyone was available, it's scary but really enjoyable and you really have to focus. I'm sure you'll be ace, enjoy it 😃 Andy
10. That's blueprint rehearsal rooms in Manchester. The room with the blue walls is where we rehearse. Nice place, as our singer put it 'They've even got girls' toilets!'. That's as close as we've ever got to being on telly!
11. Just caught it on iPlayer. Outstanding work WoT, thought you guys sounded fantastic. What a great programme too. Andy
12. Thanks gents. The ui12 GUI let's me assign the two headphone outs as extra aux outs so they can be mixed independently and used as third and fourth monitor channels. I hadn't thought about the pan left & right from one transmitter though, assume that would let me send different mixes to two receivers? Andy
13. Hope you guys don't mind a couple of beginner questions about rack mounting - my band is looking at switching to IEM and I've been tasked with investigating logistics. We're a 3/4 piece infrequent pub covers band and not particularly loud, we've just moved to the Soundcraft Ui12 desk so can use individual monitor mixes for the first time Drummer already has his own IEM system and the rest of us are looking at the LD MEI100. If money was no object we'd go Sennheiser or such but it is, ho hum. I'm thinking a 6U case for the desk plus four transmitters will give me more than enough room. Power in the back for all of the above plus spare sockets for battery recharger and laptop which will sit on top of the case. So one plug socket out saves me lots of faff at setup time. So questions - The Ui12 isn't 19" and I can't seem to find any ears for it, is there any aftermarket stuff out there or failing that will a [s]bodge[/s] creative solution involving drilling the handle to screw into the mounting holes and adding a shelf with lots of velcro tape be secure enough? Secondly, the MEI has a rear antenna, is being inside the case going to affect range/reception? Finally, what have I missed? There's bound to be something. Cheers, Andy
14. Wigan based rockers Kings of Leigh-on. Top tune JJB somebody.
15.
..and here it's mine
Oh aye, well played.
16. We've just bought the Soundcraft ui12. £230 from scan so a single gig will pay for it. Just had a single rehearsal playing/learning with it so far so I'll take the analogue desk to the next gig too just in case. Looks very promising so far though, very versatile and lots of options for customising each vocal channel and monitor outputs. Digital interface is more complex than the old desk but easy to navigate after about 10 mins. We'll use it as a 'set and forget' for vocals with a bit of kick and everything else back line so it seems to tick all the boxes so far. I'm pretty new at being the band 'pa guy' so any tips would be more than welcome.
17. We've got the ts112A tops and one 15" sub. Very good value for money and perfectly fine for the pub covers band. Loud enough, clear sound and pretty light. We bought 4 tops and use 2 as monitors so we can swap out if there's a problem. Yes, the very expensive Yamaha or RCF etc etc will very probably be better but they're also a LOT more expensive.
18.
Whenever anyone says, "What songs do you play?", my mind goes blank and all I can think of is 20th Century Boy, or something equally inane.
Thank God it's not just me! And I'm the one who scouts for gigs. I have to prepare my answers in advance!
19.
Long ad, I'm thinking this is an example of a "for fun only" opportunity. Blue
Definitely, but the tone is bang on for the target audience. The humour also tells you a lot about the band, if you're answering a 'fun only' ad then it's good to see that the band like a joke.
20. OK, so it's for a keys player, but this is (IMHO) how to write a wanted ad. http://nwb.co/blog/post/89061/phoenixknights/keys-wanted-for-60s-ish-side-project
21. Did my first park run in Oct 14 after 6 years of zero exercise. Had to stop to say hello to my breakfast halfway round. Went back the next week, and the one after that. Since then I've run at least 5k per week and I'm signed up for a half marathon in Oct. I'm almost a stone lighter and feel miles better at gigs. The yoga is a good call, I need to build that into my week.
22. I've just added a super compact to my G2 compact. Not for volume, just to move more air and thicken the bass sound out. Gigged them for the second time last weekend, never been happier with my sound. And they weigh less than a duck. The only drawback I can find is that the super compact is narrower than the G2, so they aren't the same width when stacked which isn't as aesthetically pleasing as it could be. Unfortunately, I don't have the ££ to replace the G2 with another G3!
23. I get to gig this fella for the first time tonight. If you're Manchester based and want a closer look at one then you'd be welcome for a natter and a try at the Steamhouse, Sale, M33 2DH.
24.
Phwoar!! I went for the blank board too. I'm tempted to call mine "disaster area". Points if you get the reference.
So you'll only be able to play it by remote control from orbit?
25. All PMs replied to but no confirmed takers yet (might be close on one though).
