  1. I changed the J pickup on the one I had to a Seymour Duncan Hot Stack and it did beef the sound up, but to be honest I did it more for the hum-cancelling aspect.
  2. Tech21 Q-Strip is clean and due to having 2 bands of sweepable adjustable mids and high pass & low pass filters, very versatile
  3. Yep, am a Fender & Ashdown fanboi. Any bass other than a Fender (and mainly a Precision) in my hands just sounds “wrong” to me, though invariably I’ll like them when others play them. Similar with Ashdown, although I can pretty much get the sound I want from any amp there’s just something about the warmth and depth to the Ashdown sound.
  4. If I were asked to do a solo I`d do a variation on what Lemmy does in Motorheads Stay Clean
  5. Pretty much the same apart from I have mine on the Fat setting

That’s a good point Chris, when I got my fave 2015 for a couple of weeks my fretting hand ached a bit as the neck was chunkier than I’d been used to, but I persisted and since then the 2012-16 Series is my preferred one. Every time I played that bass it just had THE sound I wanted and I now know exactly how to get what I want from it.
  7. +1 on Toneriders, and interesting to hear of these Ironstone ones, seems a good few of the lower priced options are only low in price, not quality
  8. The Hipshot HB7s are a direct drop-in, exact same size as the Fender ones so no mods required, fit side by side same as stock
  9. Apart from one song using my TC Spark Booster this eve it was bass/lead/amp and sounded great. I usually use my Ashdown RM500 at rehearsals but for this evening’s audition I brought out the ABM600 and my Fender Precision into that was joyful.
  10. I reckon that would sound awesome. I’ve paired my ABM600 with many different cabs of many brands but IMO it’s always sounded best when hooked up to ABM cabs.
  11. About £35ish. They’re great, CTS Pots, Switchcraft Jack, plus being solder less they’re both easy to install and easy to troubleshoot.
  12. Good basses, no need to upgrade anything on them unless you want to. The only thing I do as a matter of course is swap the electrics to a KiOgon loom/US Fender standard and add a Hipshot Triple string retainer (to stop potential A string rattle). I’m picking an MIM Precision up on Wednesday 😀
  13. A drunken landlady once told us in our old punk covers band that we used to bring an extra £3000 over the bar. We definitely sent the punters to drink.
  14. Thanks, it’s an originals band, sort of rockabilly punk. I want to be as near to their album (of which I’ve had to learn it all) as possible. I really like the music and the whole way the band is set up really works with my ways of thinking so I really hope I get it.
  15. I’ve got an audition tomorrow and one of the songs requires a bit of drive so I’m doing the same, TC Spark to the rescue.
  16. That’s crazy money, easily worth twice that.
  17. Some people are putting some what I’d call unrealistic prices on things but many of them have been up for ages so I wouldn’t say they’re selling at said prices.
  18. Hopefully not with a bunch of fives
  19. In my last band I used the Tech21 Para Driver (think Sansamp with adjustable sweepable mids) leaving the eq on the ABM off. The clinical sound of the PD through the warmth of the ABM matched really well imo.
  20. The most comfortable steel rounds I’ve played are D’addario Pro Steels and Elixirs. I use Elixirs as the sound lasts for ages, I can get nearly a year out of a set.
  21. 71 mungus!!
  22. I’m getting that way too. I’ve found that my ideal setup is a steel rounds strung rosewood board Precision with Custom Shop 62 pickups, into an Ashdown. I’m even finding that after years of using my trusty Para Driver that I’m now preferring bass straight into amp. Tools for the job I suppose.
  23. ABM600 & 2 x ABM PRO NEO 210s here as well. The ABM600 is the best amp I’ve ever had.
  24. Sold Seymour Duncan Studio Bass Compressor, boxed and in very good condition (no Velcro). Instead of me explaining it see the link to the Bass Compressor Guru, Ovnilab, who lists it amongst his top picks: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/vicegrip.shtml £115 gets this to your door in the UK
