  1. Got my XS-1 yesterday. It's good, but not astounding, but then I think that's just the nature of these pitch shift pedals.... It does a reasonable job up to about a tone/tone and a half detuned then the artificial sound becomes too overbearing for my taste. I also have the Digitech Drop and that's as bad/worse. Under layers of distorted guitars it probably wouldn't be noticeable but solo'd it becomes a distraction imho. Advantages of this pedal (beyond tuning down with a good sound to C#/D) are the extra ability to tune up/add higher notes, the octaver and the 'secret' chorus setting.
  2. The 2 x Paul's (@NancyJohnson & @prowla) and I convened for a lovely curry last night..... and, as Nancy says... it was indeed a windy night Just had confirmation that Chris Childs (Thunder etc) will be a special guest and will do a Q&A, short career chat and demo at around 2pm on the day. We're also working on another guest or two (subject to their availability) as well as some fun stuff...
  3. Yep, Vanessa Warwick. She was married to Ricky Warwick of The Almighty at the time.
  4. Can I get an "Amen"?!
  5. That's Claudia Winkelman.... and I claim my £5!
  6. There's a difference between giving up 'actively' playing out.... and giving up and never playing again. I trust it's the former... Best of luck whatever you do 👍
  7. Fair question. It's because the Stomp moves on/off the pedal board depending on the gig and I always like to use the Thumpinator at the start of my signal chain, regardless of what comes after. 👍
  8. Great dep show last night at the lovely South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell with Duran/Spandau tribute 'From Gold To Rio'. Gear was my usual (with this show) of Spector Dimension HP4, Shure wireless/tuner, Thumpinator, EHX Signal Pad, HAZardlAMPS Pre and HX Stomp (GK head/Ampeg 810 sim), straight to the desk.... then back to my KZs & Sennheiser IEM system. Back up bass was my upgraded Spector Coda 4. Apparently it sounded great out front and the audience was very receptive. A fun night!
  9. Fun fact, I was one of the people who recently sold a Wal for £11k
  10. Taking my Son to see Architects at London O2 Arena on Sunday night.
  11. As you've already said you likely won't be going it shouldn't matter to you what they'll play anyway... I've seen them many times before, and I WILL be going..... and I'll be more than happy to hear Tom Sawyer, Spirit Of Radio and other fave Rush songs.....
  12. Marc Martel (the best Freddie Mercury soundalike) and his One Vision Of Queen show at Shepherds Bush Empire on Saturday night. Just fantastic..... there's a reason he was asked to sing the Freddie vocals in the Bohemian Rhapsody film, and front the original 'official' Queen tribute show... Sunday night was the quite wonderful Nu-Yacht/Blue Eyed Soul group 'Young Gun Silver Fox' at Koko in Camden. Their biggest London show to date and a huge triumph. Great sound, excellent performance and a happy, dancing and singing audience. Brass section was funky as hell and the grooves were tight all night!
  13. Yes, I did a basses against a fence pic about 20 years ago. Nick Smith also did the same. Could have been either that you remember....
  14. This NEEDS to come to the UK/Europe!
  15. Amazing!!!!
  16. You clearly haven't read many of my posts or my signature.... 😂🤣
  17. Lol! Would love to, but I don't have a wide enough lens or enough guitar stands.... 🤣
  18. A favourite brand for sure. Actual instrument.... probably not, I love so many of them....
  19. I have access to a private storage facility that I visit regularly to swap/retrieve stuff as required...
  20. It's OK, I have 11 electric guitards as well so the total is 105
  21. More like rhyming with 'hole'
  22. I'll let you know when I finally get the feeling that I've got too many.... Currently on 94 and haven't thought it yet.... lol!
  23. I've always fancied using either 'Star Anise' or 'Curly Kale' as stage names.....
  24. Playing bass for me has never been about being in a band. Obviously, playing with other people/live etc is the goal and I've been lucky in that regards..... but I'm also more than happy playing by myself, learning classic basslines from legendary artists and noodling around/creating for my own pleasure. That, for me, is foremost...... the pleasure of playing the instrument itself.... anything more is a bonus. This was particularly pertinent during Covid lockdown when I developed an even closer bond with my instrument and took the time to develop my playing...
