    I don't believe the cost of a band setting up or 'increased competition' has anything to do with it. If anything, there used to be MORE live bands on the circuit. The difference is the perceived value of music to venues.... and punters. Not so many people go to pubs for live music anymore, indeed not so many people go to pubs full stop. Supermarkets do the drinks cheaper and people have so many more choices of entertainment (games consoles, netflix, social media, etc etc). As a result, pubs don't consider live music to be such a drawer and certainly aren't willing to pay the sort of money we'd all like to see, allowing for inflation...

    Decided to move this on as I'm really not making the most of this fantastic, industry standard compressor seen in the rigs of many top players. Manufacturer gumph: Compression is a tool used on pretty much every recording you will ever hear, yet this extremely useful and versatile tool is often overlooked by guitar players as part of their rig. Other compressor pedals are often limited by oversimplified controls and heavily coloured sounds. We have created a truly transparent compressor, complete with all the controls found in the studio.     I'm 'average to good', I'd say. Don't read music but understand patterns on the fretboard and can play the right note when required 99% of the time. I can groove, syncopate, provide dynamics or just plod an 8th note when needed... I learn my parts, turn up on time, do my homework and 'bring it' live. Not sure I'm improving anymore but I have the skills for what I enjoy doing. Would be nice to slap a little better (for my own enjoyment) but never needed to....

    Exactly.... and that includes playing covers in a pub or an orchestra playing the work of a legendary composer. I'm glad you're finally in agreement with us....

    Lets ask a Symphony Orchestra.... Because it's enjoyable..... because there's satisfaction to be had in learning a well written piece.... because it's fantastic getting a positive audience reaction etc etc etc

    And in pubs, clubs etc the punters and landlords don't want anything new brought to the table. If anything, the more familiar the better. You may not like it, but success in those surroundings is brought about by playing what the audience want.

    I LOVE Dee!! He was one of a group of seventies/early eighties bassists (Peter Cetera, Tiran Porter, Rutger Gunnarsson, John Deacon, Joe Puerta, etc) who took groove, melody and counterpoint within pop/rock music to a new creative level... You're right, Elton should have never sacked him & Nigel!

    I'm happy to play rock, blues, pop, funk, soul, ballads etc, all of which I enjoy listening to. Years of playing in function bands & tribute bands have enabled me to cover most bas(s)es. I wouldn't know where to start with jazz, though I do occasionally play wrong notes and noone notices

    Got this recently from a friend as part of a trade but it's surplus to requirements so passing it on. 9.5 condition and never used outside of his home studio from new so pretty much mint! It's even still got the sticky cover on the logo (peeling off at the edge). Sounds awesome, plenty of volume and a solid, full and punchy response. 500W at 8ohms.
