Lovely collection of basses, although the Ashdown Drophead is more my thing (not that I'm jealous at all.......oh no........not at alll )

I've had mine since Christmas and I love it. A lot of the reviews I read said the Bass Big Muff is better, but I found it "fizzy" especially with a P-bass. The Blogger fuzz is meatier to my ears. Drive mode helps get back some of the crunch I get from my Ashdown when I'm DI'ed through a PA.

Warm, portable, small pub gigs at the price you quote - Ashdown EB180-12

I love my EB180-12 big time. Home practise, small gigs, rehearsals, jams are all within its capabilities. Okay, its a long (very long) way from hi-fi, but for the price it's great (doubly so at the price they routinely pop up in BC for sales for)

It gets a bit a bit of a bashing on the ovnilabs site for noise, but praise for charcter ([url="http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/soulpreach.shtml"]soulpreacher review[/url]) and 51m0n on here will doubtless tell you it doesn't have enough knobs Is there anywhere local to you that stocks EHX? I'd say it's definitely a "try before you buy" model. For safe bets at similar price I'd look at the BBE optostomp or the aphex punch factory. If you're really after a limiter instead try the Boss LMB-3

Yep, the LM-2 was the model before the LMB-3

I've heard good things about G4M's White Horse amps elsewhere. I'd say for the money it's a pretty tasty bundle, but as Cycrowave points out there are excellent bargains to be had secondhand if you know what you want. Ashdown EB180s come up fairly often for not much more than £100 - great budget amp that'll happily do small gigs without PA support.

I like the mini-switches too. Mine has the original push/push pots and it's tricky to tell which mode your in. Thinking of adding some three position switches so each pickup can be single-coil/parallel/series and I can tell at a glance what's going on.

I picked up a Roadstar II RB950 a few weeks ago - very similar apart from having a bound birdseye-maple top. Awesome basses and the pickups/switching mean the range of tones available is huge. Buy with confidence

I've tried it with an earlier line-up of my current band. We pretty quickly ended up with a covers set (1 hour) and an originals set (30 mins) as most places wanted one or the other. The few that said it was up to us (so we played a bit of both) didn't ask us back as it confused their punters. Now we just do originals (up to about a one hour set) but throw in a twisted cover at least once in most sets.

I play a bit, not well enough to claim to be a guitarist, but I generally have more of a clue of what chords my band's guitarist is playing than he does.

As the LB is an all valve head it shouldn't be run without a load attached. You could run the 2X10 from the speaker output of the LB (4ohm) and then take the DI out into one input on a power amp and drive the 4X10 from that.

Okay, cheating somewhat because it was tonight's gig rather than last night's...... But, AWESOME!!! First gig for six months. New drummer, new material, loads of energy, plus two other great bands on the bill too. First band on (Vice Like Grip) were fantastic, pop-punk, played great, sang great and real gents too (happy for anyone else to borrow their kit). Next band (Three Sided Square), lovely guys again, very young but loads of confidence (but no arrogance), hampered by an unreliable guitar amp but still won the audience over with lots of banter between songs. Us? Well we did what we do well... Three middle aged men acting out a mid-life crisis, and a much younger drummer, playing our own take on ska, punk and alt-rock, but we had lot of fun and the audience seemed to too, plus my youngest was there too for the first time

My band are playing at the Forum in Tunbridge Wells tonight, along with three other bands. That's four bands for£6. You cant even get two pints for that these days

I heard Hugh Masakela's Grazin in The Grass one night on Capital Radio. That got me into the sound of the trumpet. From there it was Miles Davis next. Still love the trumpet in all genres of modern music and if I was starting out as a muso again it's the instrument I'd go for.

Very rarely do I get GAS for pedals, but GAS GAS GAS. Sometimes I want a bit of distortion or drive or fuzz or chorus, rarely a delay. This could be the answer to all my wants.

Nice bit of work there. As an aside, how's the PJB? It's one of the small heads on my shortlist to drive a couple of BFM J10s

New strings went on at 4:30, checked the relief - tightened the truss rod 1/8 turn. The previous stirngs must have been incredibly light. Lowered the saddles a bit too. Action was still a bit high but no time for more adjustment as it was time to be off to band practise. I think a bit more tightening of the truss-rod and a touch lower on the saddles and it will be perfect. My god! What an awesome sound Actually, what an awesome range of sounds. I was worried that 27 year old pickups might be past their best, but jeez, they're hot with loads of punch in humbucker mode, but clear as a bell in single coil. My favourite is front HB, rear SC and slightly towards the front on the pan pot, tone fully open - deep and punchy bass but with just enough edge without being strident. I really want to do my idea of having the pickup switches as toggles so I can put in series mode - that's going to be incredibly hot. Incredibly playable neck too - possibly the most comfortable of any bass I've owned. The flat spots on some frets didn't cause any probs (but maybe when the action is a bit lower?) The only downside is I've got to get used to physical size of those pickups. I kept catching both my pick and fingers on them. I hadn't realised I dig in so hard. A few evenings' practise and I'll be fine though. R E S U L T ! ! ! and another
