It works both ways though, some songs just become rushed unless rearranged to suit a different genre. Sweet home Alabama is a good example, all the little riffs and the solos become a blur if played too quickly.

One thing I've always been quite good at as a bass player, possibly the only thing, is keeping the time in check. Sometimes a song needs a rocket under it during the first verse to stop it dragging other times it goes to fast and the dynamics of the song are lost, I recently bought it up at practice that our Blondie call me was too quick and it's much better for a slowing down. Sweet home Alabama at 250bpm at the local jam night is another one that springs to mind.

Well I'm sure there are a few reasons, first one that springs to mind is that my Shuttlemax is great but if I was doing a motown gig I'd probably want some kind of valve drive to warm it up, the next gig may well be a modern function covers band without the preamp.

Musical exchanges in Birmingham had a huge section full of stuff like that with the metal neck, I think BigkRedX would have exploded with excitement, everyone else and their wallets walked past! Lol. There's often a reason why some things are rare.

You're right they passive 12" Mackies were not much smaller or lighter.

Roadworn doesn't tend to go down so well with MM collectors imo, a bit a wear use and a nicely smoothed neck but, a Limelight attacked with an angle grinder finish doesn't add value like a mojod Fender. Around a grand sounds about right to me too, plus or minus, add salt to taste.

I use a second preamp just for double bass, that's a thread in itself, lol. Other people might actually be using a preamp with less controls or a tone they prefer but using the power amp just for the power section so the myriad of knobs might not actually be doing anything.
