  1. He's gone, you wouldn't have thought it could be run more poorly would you?!
  2. Take into account this venue has no stage or PA system and it really isn't suited to originals imo, paid or unpaid.
  3. Personally I've never been in an originals band that could do the two to the hours of original only material to take the gig on anyway.
  4. For all my jibes I totally get why you'd do your bit for the local village or town but would you drive fifty miles round trip and set up the pa and lights then play for up to three hours for free in a venue you've never been to because a landlord asked you to?
  5. The sad thing with this venue is that there wasn't a decline, it was almost always a busy night where people went knowing there was a band on, it wasn't trying to attract the originals scene rather just a fun night out.
  6. I presume you've worked out which venue this is?
  7. Ah bit far away to try my Gedo out as I'm in Staffordshire, let me know if you're passing though and I'll pop the kettle on
  8. It's not a myth. Where did I say ALL ORIGINALS play for free? And can you point me to anywhere that I said they shouldn't get paid as much?
  9. You can't really waver can you? Mind you I can't sing even when not playing!
  10. You know when someone bakes you a birthday guitar cake and that person hasn't got a clue what the difference between a Les Paul and Double bass is, this bass looks like that cake.
  11. Genzler magellan sounds like a starting point?
  12. From some of the people I've met over the years I suspect sadly you're wrong! Lol
  13. Certainly does, the pub is run by a committee, no one on the committee has ever run a pub before
  14. A venue we used to play regularly changed hands over a year ago, we did the first gig there after they took over and the already questionable clientele had dwindled so we decided not to try too hard to get any more. Roll on a year and they've asked us to do another so we said ok as we're not that busy anyway, a couple of weeks ago another band that plays there contacted us to ask if we know what's going on as they'd been messed around by the venue, our guitarist contacted them to check we were still booked and they said the other band were rubbish and got the audience to sing the songs because they couldn't, now I've never seen them so I can't comment on that but as the conversation progressed the organiser said that the profits are in decline, (that's in general not just the music night add it's run terribly), he also pointed out that he has found a website where he can get bands for free! Lol. Now any bands doing that will be originals expecting a typical 3 or 4 band line-up at a venue with a stage and a PA/sound person maybe even a house drum kit minus breakables surely? This is a typical pub where we take lights and PA plus the usual full compliment of amps and drum kit, it's also a 50 mile round trip from where he said the bands are based. I think we'll be seeing another closed venue that did have a popular Saturday night schedule until 18 months ago
  15. Where abouts are you based?
  16. The Zellar in the for sale section also looks nice too.
  17. Billy Jean is like that for me, hopefully the audience are dancing and you really have to pump those notes out bang on time over and over to keep them grooving!
  18. Sounds like you've got it ingrained now! I'll do a 'tribute' to the original then especially if he did too, thanks
  19. I have a Gedo Linus that will be at the bash, there are a few ofus on here with them, great company to deal with and much better than anything ebayesque! http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/en/double-bass-plywood/80-kontrabass-schwarz-matt-komplett-laminiert-34-und-44-groesse-neu-4260227041453.html This is a fully plywood one which I would have no worries about buying from them, I have a half carved and I think Bilbo has a fully carved one? Even this ply one has an ebony fingerboard as opposed to ebonized (painted black!) and decent tirolean tuners. Get along to the bash and fuel your gas even more This one is the same as mine http://www.gedo-musik.de/shop/en/double-bass-half-carved/20-kontrabass-34-braunmatt-lackiert-halbmassiv-neu-4260227044935.html but I have the glossy violin finish that they haven't got listed at the moment, same bass though with De Gamba sides and solid spruce top, stripey maple back and sides, ebony tail and fingerboard, I had Spirocores fitted by them at the German factory along with an adjustable bridge which would buy you a decent Squier bass alone, Lol
  20. I am learning Elvis Costello Pump It Up for rehearsal later, resorted to downloading the dots, every verse and every chorus are slightly different each time both in note choice and quantity of bars! I will simplify it a bit for the real world I think.
  21. If it sounds good and the punters look to be enjoying themselves then it's done its job.
  22. I did wonder that too?
