1. The problem with moving the anchor block up is that you would need to remove a lump of body and also the angle from bridge to block might become quite sharp? A new block made to fit over the step and keep the angle the same would be best, a block of maple painted black would be perfect. I just countersunk the existing holes and left about 10mm of wood from the ball end to the face of the block, no cracks yet. I had to peel a bit of the top silk back then clear nail varnished them as I'd made a mess taking them on and off etc, no problems now though and lovely Spiros instead of the stagg ones.
2. I like it, I prefer the dots on that to the fancy ones on the fretless as they just confuse me! I bet my bowing would sound better with frets
3. And mine is my lightest five string bass so what do you know?
4.
You all stole the good jokes
Yes they must be a bunch of arseholes
5. Argh I wanted pics! Good enough excuse to repeat the DB bash alone I'd say Owen?
6. I like it but I don't see that much need for it?
7. I wish them all the best but it looks like very early days, funk 5 in sparkle silver if the numbers come up to help them on their way
8. Mine catches a bit but nothing worth worrying about, its the only jewellery I wear.
9. Thanks Geoff, sounds like I need to work on my ability to get the note started more than anything then. I'll watch new video later, I've not been brave enough to swap any strings on the Gedo yet just the stagg and that turned into a nightmare, lol. Bow dodger, brilliant
10.
Chill Mark, unlike Littlewing, some of us read your original post properly.
+1
11. Ha no problem, Gedo are great to deal with and nicely shipped. They will alter the standard specs to suit you, I added Spirocore weich strings and an adjustable bridge to the model they had listed, I took a bit more off the bridge and had to fiddle about a bit to get it where I was happy but nothing too tricky, strings were pre fitted, sound post stayed in place etc. If I had took it straight to Tofts or similar I bet it could be even better, I wanted one I could grow into rather than need to sell if I liked it and so far so good, the solid top, ebony board and adjustable bridge mean it can be setup at a later date including a board shoot but as Geoff likes it and Jake sees no reason to mess I haven't Good luck with the house sale, and feel free to come and see mine some time to get an idea of what the fit and finish is like etc, just drop me a pm.
12.
The Lakland and the G&L both sound superb! Contenders, for sure!
I'd happily play either for the rest of my days
13. You'd only get as far as the bottom of the stairs if I was playing DB with a bow unless you like cats fighting!
14. G and L is a good shout, also what money do used Lakland 55-01 fetch?
15. Saves having an audience when practicing!
16. Good luck with it all
17. I am forgetting that the F deck is just a little one, I was thinking of it like a big box like the Fishman, starting with it there sounds like a plan, what about just putting the zoom in bypass either in the FX loop or the signal chain, I prefer nothing in mine if possible.
18.
Have you got a cool, dry room you can put them in. It should bring the bass back slowly , and shouldn`t twist. I am not 100% because a bass will be laquered , but untreated wood warps if it is dried out to quickly
That is what I am thinking, dont rush it.
19. These are the ebay 'chord' ones, cheap enough but all metal with the centre part as a threaded solid bolt and a lock nut, the wall is compressed straw and really good for screwing straight into but I have screwed plaster board turbo fasteners in with a cordless driver they are not going anywhere and the hagers are still holding my basses up, the black SR5 weights more than that Ducati 916
20. Thanks drT, as we thought nice early Classic5 then, my John East is just the 2 EQ without the mid sweep, its nice! It is definitely the proper 2 band that I took out but it just didn't set the world on fire like the Classic 4 I had tried at the bassday UK show or either of my pre EB stingrays even with a sizzlyGenz amp. Might be a duff pot or something so a tech would be the way forward as I want it to keep all original with the standard case etc that I dont use. +1 on the Cutlass look a like too, good shout and I agree it looks cool, much better than a stock SUB imo.
21.
But why is it happening? There is something very wrong.
When you watch a plasterer mixing it, they will pour bucket fulls of water in each mix then put it on the walls/ceiling, imagine the mess if you threw 20 buckets of water in your attic! You want the basses to dry out slowly IMO a dehumidifier might be the worst thing you can do now?, slowly slowy catchy monkey approach might be better. I would just leave everything as is and wait for them to return to their normal state unless you need one to play right away? unsealed Stingray necks are quite bad for seasonal changes but they always come back if left alone. Ventilation and low heat are your friends now, if you do dehumidify then dont put it right in the attic near the basses, do it where the plaster is but the plasterer will probably tell you why not to use one for the same reasons as I would not want my bass necks drying out!
22. This is essentially my solution to the same kind of thing, the double bass goes into the plat pro EQ, out of there into the A-B switch, electric basses on a second lead straight into the A-B switch, A-B output to the amp input. I have the tuner on the amp tuner out so both inputs show on the tuner, the Behringer preamp is in/out the valve channel FX loop to give my passive Jazz some extra kick. FET channel for DB via the Plat pro EQ. Valve channel including the Behringer for the Jazz bass. Valve without the Behringer switched on or select the FET channel for Stingrays as that bypasses the Plat pro EQ. Thinking out loud you could get a split signal lead, receiver to Zoom B3 and F deck, output from each to A and B then to the genz input, AB will act like a stop tap to isolate the signal from one or the other and you can use one wireless transmitter/receiver. Option two, if the Zoom B3 has a good true bypass once tested at volume in the signal chain go receiver to Zoom to Genz then add the F deck in/out the FX loop on the Genz head, turn it off for electric bass and use your zoom as normal, bypass the zoom and engage the F deck when using double bass. Not sure if that helps? From experience the eubs wont give any of the issues the real DB will with what you need to do, I'm now running a mag pickup because of the feedback at gig volume! 23. If you go too low it will play easier but a lot less DB like and lose some of the thump, make sure the nut slots are cut deep enough but not too deep. Mine is about 9mm on the E reducing evenly to the G at about 6mm I think. Of course different strings will have different tensions too so there is no definitive answer really
24. I played a Celinder 4 string and it was the nicest bass I have ever played, if it had been a 5 I would have bought it there and then, I ended up with a nice US Fender V instead but these are something else, GLWTS
25. Loving the bow work Geoff! , I am using my misery stick more and more during my practice sessions and I am getting better, I do find it hard to 'start' the strings on mine, how would you rate the Zyex to my Spiro weichs and your regular Evah Pirazzi weichs for arco? I am still learning how much and how little rosin to add and I haven't put any on for a while with better results if anything, Owens advice of tilting the bow at the bass bash helped me a lot (Thanks Owen ) and I have a lesson coming up with Jake fairly soon if the planets line up so I will make some screeching noises for him then, I like the deeper sound (to my ears) that your bass has normally compared to mine but then the clarity and brightness is probably best for a novice like me? Thanks again, Pete.
