1.
UK company... But cheaper in USA? http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2015/02/03/ashdown-announces-desktop-b-social-bass-amp/
No shipping costs to the UK if they are built there?, are they built there, here or the PRC?
2.
Maybe they don't have time to be gear nerds AND frequent basschat then?
That might be nearer the mark! He is a member here actually but how would you know what people are up to anyway unless they posted about it, maybe its the quiet ones with the best gigs?
3. Ironically I have a pro mate that is the biggest gear nerd I know so I'm not so sure about the idea they don't have time for playing with new gadgets etc.
4.
I don't find lacquered necks sticky at all, but I understand some do. Different strokes for different folks & all that.
I used to think I did not like a finished neck but then I bought my first pre EB Stingray and it was nice, I now have my Classic5 and that is nice, a US Jazz V and that is nice too so I think it depends on what the finish is rather than finished or not, if its too grippy I just take the edge off with 1200 wet and dry as it can just be polished back to a gloss if you sell it on. My Bass Collection SB320 had a painted neck and that was a bit sticky IMO and possibly what made me try an oiled neck, I have never cleaned or re oiled one yet, the funk is in the gunk etc
5. One thing I always think about posting then forget to is this, when the science bods get involved here with the "placebo effect" etc what I wonder is if you were blindfolded and only allowed to adjust the EQ by feel and to taste tone wise maybe the actual drivers could produce the whole sonic spectrum hence the science being correct yet if I set say my Shuttle 6.0 head up to my preferred tone then swapped the cabs only would the 12" then be deeper than the 10" and that deeper than the 8" etc etc? I think it would and that is where I think the confusion kicks in in these topics and like I said I have thought about it before then forgot to ask everytime! Now the issue is what does it matter providing you have enough of what you require? My Shuttlemax9.2 head may or may not produce 900watts and the debate will never really be settled but if I only need 350 watts worst case scenario does it matter if its only putting out a real world 750? same goes for treble and bass range, and overall volume produced by the cab arrangement you decide on IMO. I think that makes some sense but I am rambling a bit, Lol.
6.
Just back from Jon Shuker after having the neck lacquered in a nice vintage tint. it's difficult to photograph but if you seen a Classic Ray then it's the same tint as that. Jon's done an outstanding job, it plays as good as it looks.
Excellent!
7. My old pre EB that Foxx now owns was fairly light, possibly nearer 8 1/2 lbs
8. Did any last long enough to be tested? I am trying to think of a company that puts built in **** but isnt? I know most put "designed in the UK" or "USA" yet it says in small somewhere "assembled in PRC" or "Taiwan" etc too including 'Best of British' Ashdown themselves.
9. It's not the one I'm thinking, I presume that's the one he's referring to regarding false power claims though, lol
10.
The unfinished neck is one of the main reasons I never bought a full fat Ray.
Sounds like you need a ClassicRay then!
11. I like the urethane and a colour matched sunburst headstock isn't for me so im ok with that, I'll spend the £200 I saved on a John East preamp at some stage
12. I am fishing for the answer because if it's the one I'm expecting it's not correct, been covered on here a few times and has never has been the case.
13. Which amp doesn't go below 80hz?
14. My own personal top ten would change week on week with only a few constants top five, deacon, Nate Watts, Tim commerford, flea and novoselic but they change position daily!
15. I didn't know the genre or the magazine still existed! Jaco metal? No Cliff Williams? No David Ellefson?
16. After years of anything but I've taken the "if you cant beat them join them" approach, Jazz, 3 tsb, 4 ply tortie guard, rosewood board.....but.....it has a B string.
17. What's it got that my am std hasn't other than ashtrays I'd need to remove and a tug bar you could fit for tuppence?
18. The last Paramore album has a killer bass mix! Makes me want a Gibson grabber.
19. Our drummer uses a Jobecky kit with a Roland module, it's a bit weird to get used to but we have got gigs bands without won't get because of the volume, it doesn't matter how good YOUR drummer is at playing quietly because the majority of drummers knocking up a shed before have stopped the venue taking a chance!
20. Fantastic, I am not sure if that made me want to practice more or just sell my bass!
21. Jaws theme and Mr Krinkle are my whole repetoire
22. That's what Jake said and then voted with his own wallet!
23.
No need to be quite so sarcastic. €850 and in my opinion something which far outstrips the Yita bow and is worth that money more so than the Yita is. People spend so much money on a bass so why not a bow that can help them play the instrument more effectively?
I'm sure it's excellent but its 10 times the price of the Yita, next time someone asks advice on first basses I'll tell them a Classic5 Stingray at £2200 is better than a Squier for £220 and see how that goes down Of course there are no rules as to who uses what so if the OP wants to spend more then he will get a better bow as you say, so maybe the OP needs to give an idea of what budget he wants to aim for, if its nearer the grand mark then the Yita and similar aren't going to be worth looking at I guess.
