I've got some bows you can try Bluejay, German wooden one and a carbon French, I'll bring them both.
My opening point was simply honest, and probably said out loud what a lot of people were thinking Pete. Re nice to see a few more people, yes, 6 is not going to make en event is it? Perhaps the organisers need to speak to Nik (silverfoxnik) about how to do these things properly, for example polite PMs to members asking if they'd like to attend, asking what they'd like to see/do/hear on the day, and whether they'd like to take an active role? If I were organising this DB event the very least I'd have done would be to PM all the likely suspects, and given that neither myself or a couple of other who should be on the list didn't receive one, I assume that didn't happen?
There was another thread started ages ago where all of your points were raised and an open invitation to anyone offering suitable services was made, suggestions of a luthier giving basic services on site were made for example, I didn't realise there was an inner sanctum that needed private consultation regarding a bash? You've already said you don't want to talk about preamps or anything else for that matter so what are you proposing, walk around in silence trying each others basses then leave? Lol
I'd love to come to this, but frankly I don't want to spend 8-hours in the car to talk pre-amps or anything else for that matter, we can talk about gear on BC. If I was going to drive that far I'd want to do one thing and one thing only, play lot of different DBs. I'd happily bring my three up if it felt like it was worth the journey?
I can see your point Chris but perhaps the tone of your opening gambit was a little harsh? There was plenty of unamplified playing last time and even as an electric bass player mainly I'm happy to have a no electric basses rule, as soon as the Status Mark king crew arrive my ear plugs go in! It would be nice to see a few more names on the list and a few more basses that I agree with, I'd like to see more people who want an introduction to upright to come along too.

It was NOTHING like a regular electric bass bash last time, I played every bass there if anyone can find the picture of the group shot you will see how many basses there were, more than anywhere I've visited so far that's for sure.

Motorhead, too soon?

I fitted a frequency inverter a couple of years ago, it is a massive battery that charges at 50hz then discharges at 60hz, works just like the bath idea but as you say you cant run it forever.
What Pete isn't telling you is that they keep their feet warm on the windings of the said extension lead.
Well the only other way to keep warm is to do some work, we can't have that can we?!
I concur with all these [s]old folks[/s] seniors (well, I would, wouldn't I..?), although, here in [s]the real world[/s] Europe, there are no fuses in these leads, so it's all a bit dumb as a debating subject, really. The leads don't often explode or catch fire over here; I must have handled thousands of 'em over the decades. Ne'er a jot of trouble with 'em regarding fuses.
The general feeling in the UK is that we use fused plugs due to our love of the '30 amp ring main' where a 16 amp radial circuit is more common in mainland Europe, in reality a 16 amp MCB in the consumer unit would trip far sooner than a 13 amp fuse in a plugtop would blow. I've been on building sites where they have a cement mixer, radio, kettle, sandwich toaster and a nest of battery chargers all on at the same time all on a 25 metre ext reel!

Sterling Ray 34 vs SUB Ray4

There used to be a guy that made replica 2 band circuits, they were only about £40 on ebay too. -
I'd like to see the wireless please

Hi opticfibre, I think getting along to a bass bash would be a great idea, maybe once we hear it in action we will become more optimistic? My current lead is around 10 years old with no issues, I do look after them so that helps, for live use I'd be much more likely to go wireless at some stage. -
Solid State Amps being... "recently serviced".
stingrayPete1977 replied to Coilte's topic in General Discussion
Quite often terminals shake loose, pots get scratchy, connections get tarnished and even fairly basic amps might have a pre amp valve that's working it's way out of the holder. Most include a PAT test cert too proving the fixed power lead and fuse are correct. -
Stingray -DI box -PA -FOH = win. I'll take any old combo, ragged house amp, foldback monitor wedge, I'm not bothered especially if I dont have to carry it

I agree with the others, it must be ply if it's got a join down the back and front surely anyway? The place that just did me a new sound post would be into hundreds to refit the post, supply and fit a bridge and even a cheap set of strings is what £80? £150 maximum for me, if you can get it playing for £350 and it turns out nice then it 'could' be a bargain, if you hit one single problem you'll do well to break even imo.
So you wouldn't blame British Gas if it put up its prices 50% because wholesale gas prices had gone up 1%?
We know they are scumbags so partly yes and partly anyone who voted out. When they let murderers out of prison after 8 years when they categorically declare that they will kill the first person they see, and they do, it's fair to say the murderer is still to blame but so is the idiot that signed them out early imo.
-
I think it's still fair to blame brexit if brexit is what has given companies something to hide behind.
-
I'm not an expert but a few musts from me to get you started, is the sound post in place and is the bass bar there? Any major cracks or splits? Any bulging or sunken areas front or back where the sound post lines up and near the bridge? Why doesn't it have strings? Look at the edges of the F holes to see if it's a solid piece of wood or layers of ply, look inside (take a torch) if the wood grain is nothing like the outside it's going to be ply. Anymore anyone?

Dragon's Den - Analogue Optical Guitar Cable
stingrayPete1977 replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
Are plastic cables good for metal? And can sound traveling by light work with heavy music? -
It's the same as classic cars in a way, the ones that have "wow, only done 100 miles since last years MOT!" are the ones to avoid, that's when things go wrong if you do try and use it regularly ime.
-
I think it refers to the owner?!
-
With millions of basses in the world ay various prices new or used and with different quantities of strings and pickups etc I can't see a need to own one you don't like the look of.
