1. I've never been in an originals band that hauled sound and lights and I've never been in a covers band that didn't. Non of said bands performed in Milwaukee.
2. My 1.5mm melted in the speakon connector supplied by bass direct at the first gig, 600w genz head into a 4 ohm load, finished the gig with a 20 metre cable from the PA spares box and ordered an OBBM one, never had a problem since, that was around 2009.
3. I'm in two covers bands, we certainly don't sound like the original records, lol Anyone who has got this far in life without watching any Postmodern Jukebox clips on YouTube you should head over there now!
4. Lakland-Google-purchase
5.
Which produces such oddities as David Bowie's cover of "All the Young Dudes" and Bruce Springsteen's cover of "Because the night". I don't think Prince did a cover of "Nothing compares 2U".
But there will be a version originally recorded by the writer somewhere we just haven't heard it, I doubt Bowie described the song over the phone to them?
6.
But surely it's technically only a cover if it wasn't written by you or for you..?
Generally the songs acts like that perform are songs written by song writers that can be purchased by anyone, their management will contact the writer AFTER It's been written to strike a deal as co written. Basically we are back to Carole king again.
7. "Derek, if it turns out Tim C has ditched the Barefaced already we are going to need to run this biscuit machine 24 hours a day, put the word out on the factory floor to see who's up for overtime".
8. Plenty of artists have tried to rip songs off but I don't think there would be any proper bands doing the rounds doing typical multiband nights trying to pass off say 45 mins of obscure covers. Obviously One Direction and their ilk are basically a covers band aren't they but as soon as it says written by X in the CD sleeve they aren't actually trying to say they wrote it, the old co written thing is done to try and give credit to pop stars, change a few words and claim they co wrote it.
9. It's nice to see him with a Ray, I wonder if the cabs are due to shipping, it doesn't look like the biggest gig ever so it might just be whatever they could get a close to what he wants, No logos to keep Alex happy?
10. Are there ANY bands doing a full set of covers taken from obscure albums passing them off as their own or at least not mentioning it in any way?
11.
That's not what you called him in that PM to me the other day EDIT: just for clarity... There was no such PM. This is very much a lighthearted comment.
No need for the clarity, I like some banter
12. The neck doesn't need to be longer, just the finger board really, it's not going to bend up the dusty end.
13. Old horse Murphy doesn't sell his basses does he? Lol Just on my way home from a gig playing on an ex Nick bass
14.
It's easy fixed if you type with your eyes open.
It's because of arsey posts like this we call you Bully Apple behind your back
15. Bass is home safe and sound, it's had a new sound post shaped and fitted and the crack touched in. The price was quite reasonable in the end and I had a look at a few basses while I was in there , they were all nice but I actually took a shine to a Vivente at around £1800 over the more expensive ones. She also said they would take my gedo in on it at a quite fair exchange too, I think maybe her opinion on my gedo has gone up after working on it compared to when I dropped it off last week.
16. The function bands are often super tight, really talented, doing it to pay bills and to live, paying tax, ni, costs, agency fees, vans etc rather than taking cash in hand on top of a full time job.
17. We had this a whike ago (cant remeber the exact model but it was Mesa) the uk version actually had windings for 110v but the us version they had purchased and paid shipping/duty on etc to save a few quid didn't have 230v windings. The scam at the time was to buy one from the States then another EU version from a shop online then send them back the US version!
18. Hi Marc I bought it new in 2013 I think, I should know in the next couple of days how bad it is and a possible cause, i think it's just the wood settling over an overly long post.
19. It's all relative surely regarding the financial aspect? I know people with millions of pounds in the bank with a £750 number plate where people would suggest it's a waste (as lefty says"could have improved the car", maybe the next size wheel upgrade package or something),at the same time I stand behind people buying scratch cards in the shop, probably £10 worth that could almost certainly spend it more wisely. No point being the richest bloke in the grave yard!
20. Nah it just gets in the way of the football on the telly behind us.
21. Somewhere along the line we will get the posts trying to suggest people doing covers of bands that "were there" can do them with more passion etc as if they have more right to the songs or even borderline delusions that somehow they are almost co writers as fans! Lol.
22. It's the first thing I ask for a £250 split five ways pub gig "is there a steam room?, my pro guys I put together wouldn't touch a gig without one". ?* 8888*680s
23. J46 UAR is currently on an S class Merc, a fairly rough one by all accounts.
24. How many times did he say "you know"?
