1. You know what? that is nice and the first relic I have liked, I know a few people with genuine relics and they do look like that rather than the overly ruined rather than aged ones you see done with a grinder, tow rope and the M6!
2. Which is why for me in those instances I'd rather forego the awesome fuzz wah delay grind for a standard generic 'good' bass sound that can at least be heard out the front. Stingray pre eq, job done since '76 :-D
3. They are only about £18 via strings and things, no need for deep pockets if you just buy from the right place! I think Mark at bass direct can organise them for you, I purchased one from my sr5 with the screws from him.
4. Well you can't pre di the players fingers or the bass controls, that's where subtle changes for slap, thumb and plectrum should be made imo, not on the amp.
5. Are there any bands playing charity gigs in Milwaukee using relic guitars?
6. lots of courses with very different flavours and textures is great in a fancy restaurant where you have time to savour them, I'm not saying we should all have McDonalds for every meal but I'd rather have a good roast beef dinner that most of the punters can enjoy than a smoked asparagus sausage on a bed of hummus that only the front few tables got to taste, even if they said it was very very tasty! Meat and potatoes down the clean di, Mic a cab maybe if you like a bit of onion gravy on top. :-D
7. I think there's a lot of confusion between using pre or post eq on the head with a di and pre meaning a clean only bass, you can still use your fuzz and wah etc before the di box and send that pre eq of the head, still risky unless you have the time to test all the patches to the foh but you can set your stage amp however you like then and adjust mid set or even mid song without screwing the foh. Clean clean clean for me though, studios and live without my own sound crew are very different things imo.
8. Was it actually bad? Quite often I've been told how good the bass sounded at gigs where I thought it was crap from the stage area.
9. Not much to it anyway is there? I like it more than the Jazz, but I would wouldn't I?!
10.
That one is a Fender.
This is what they should be selling then surely?!
11. The eq required on the stage compared to the rest of the room are often very different, why people think the eq that sounded good in a practice room a week ago will automatically be the right one for the venue FOH I can't grasp?
12. Is his new one with the mm a fender or a custom build?
13. That does sound like a big tent tbf, although as ebs says as long as the dance floor area is covered you are doing alright.
14. I only think elo were bland in as much as thats what they do, I didn't think they under played. I couldn't watch coldplay if you paid me without punching someone.
15. When people say as good as the studio version but better, they should link this performance!
16. Yep ELO, super tight, massive back catalogue, good live mix, great musicians. Not really one of my fave bands but faultless really.
17. I've rarely heard any live bands get fx laden bass to sit well in a mix, I'm including big names in that, muse, chilis etc, from a punters point of view I'd rather they just got a nice solid core tone and left it at that live, Flea goes from awesome tone in one song to inaudible in the next!
18. Oops missed the xair18 Defo pre eq and make use of the eq for the bass channel, also is your kick compressed and gated? If not that superb pa will be trying to amplify everything including the bits not needed robbing lots of power.
19. That pa should sound epic unless you have a guitarist ripping a marshall stack full blast instead of going through foh, thats some tasty PA you have, the 745s would do most gigs I've ever played never mind the subs, for anyone not familiar with those tops they are not like a Mackie thump, the voice coils can pump out enough top end leaving the 15" to handle mainly the bass and kick drum alone, like having a 15" bass cab fed with a 1400 watt head on both sides of the stage , add in them subs and Wow! What desk are you using?
20. Tim Tofts in stone wouldn't take that long to get to from Liverpool.
21.
It does occur to me that it would be a hell of a lot quicker and far less expensive to just get one made by someone other than Fender!
Now that is very true.
22.
I would seriously consider one of the Flea MM/Fender, but this does nothing for me at all.
I suppose it took them 10 years to release this one, so maybe the mm/jazz will be out it 2026?!
23. I was hoping it was his new one with the mm pickup.
24. I might even come out of hiding for another double bass bash! :-D
