1. The audiences we play to like the look of my upright more than the sound of it when I start playing it! I'm not sure if a double bass for a whole set of pop songs with a full electric band would work though, a mixture of both would be ideal and a good reason for anyone starting out looking to be a session pro to learn both, I can see gigs being lost both ways to a guy/gal that doubles.
2. Good to hear Roger It's a never ending battle between your opposing fisherman with the same initials though.
3.
Order a 2EQ modern Ray
And have Shuker or someone tint the neck with the same non sticky finish, job done. In fact you could probably convert one to string through if you knew what you were doing.
4.
Good point StingrayPete........I also missed the part were he said "the EB introduced contoured body" which clearly means he knows of the new body shapes.....my bad OP Now I'm off to get some more coffee
Ha no worries, it is the heat!
5. You should start a club, there are quite a few of you now! Where's Roger (Bassace)?
6.
I love the contoured body's, I even modified a slab bodied RAY 34CA for Belly and Forearm relief, but I wouldn't mod a classic. You might already know this, but the newer EB's are available now with contoured bodies.
The ebmm non Classics wont have the bits the OP wants to keep though, strung through, gloss vintage tinted neck, muted bridge etc. I wouldn't do it to mine as I do not have a problem not having the contours and would defo hurt the value not that its for sale, I have fitted an East preamp to mine but that's reversable.
7. Yep ^ I'd rather play mustang Sally to a massive audience of people dancing and singing along than look at blank faces as we perform a near perfect rendition of an album track by Joe Bonnamassa, I've done both and I'll take the easy option every time especially if we are charging them for it.
8.
guitarist " I've put an extra solo in there "
Guitarist " we'll just cut the solo out or do a little jam, introduce the band or something" Ah can't play the solo or hasn't bothered to learn it, I see.
9. I do wonder if the chambering is why it's not a slab?
10. So they are providing half a PA then? No desk and no monitors. It would work out quite nice for me actually, main outs from my xr16 to the in house kit,our two db monitors as normal for vocals and drum fold back then our rcf 735 powered tops into the spare aux outs positioned strategically Is nothing but your main send going to our front of house system, yes.
11. Once you have learnt all the functions the phone is ok, takes a while to get the hang of it but once you have its ace.
12. If only someone had told Bernard Edwards, or Flea or Mark King or Nicky Sixx etc etc etc etc etc..... lol
13. I prefer to use my big Samsung tablet to my phone, Apple looks different to Android and laptop is different again with LOADS of extra features.
14. Unless you play 70s bar band rock you should be in the basement anyway.
15. My favourite amp is a di box and a monitor set up by someone else, just leaves the one knob playing it, me
16.
Sounds like you were talking to Helen... She sold me my Jay Haide cello and Dorfler bow. If you talk nicely they will cut a bit of a deal. They have a bass room (and a cello room...)
It was indeed Helen hopefully they will look after me.
17. Harmonicas are no problem imo, it's the twats that stand there blowing in them that cause the trouble!
18. I love my shuttlemax, knobs everywhere!
19. They are certainly delicate beasts aren't they?! I've no idea how normal a hump is so I'd be interested to know too.
20. I cant get on with P basses, I have decided I only active five strings, neither things suit a P for some reason imo. I play quite an eclectic mix in my covers bands, I can get a suitable tone with playing style and cutting/boosting the treble.
21. We've been asked by a paying punter to add all the usual crap for their wedding later this year, they are paying so that's that. The songs are actually mostly ok really just done to death, brown eyed girl etc.
22. Even though im terrible with the misery stick I have a real thing for them, that looks like a lovely one! Enjoy.
23. I'll report back, she will be doing it this week all being well, has your wood cracked or just a gentle hump formed? Mine is quite isolated to the post area, must be really tight and this humid weather has not helped I bet. I'm going to let her show me the basses they have on sale when I collect it, could be an expensive mistake!
24. She's going to shorten the post as we think it's too long now the body has started to settle, it's having a once over and some shellac in the crack after, fingers crossed it will be ok, not a cheap hobby though eh?!
25. Ta mate I've just dropped it off at Tim Tofts, bit like taking a Kia Picanto into a vintage Ferrari restoration specialists!
